Bad WFH habits

361 replies

Coffee4Queen · 08/10/2020 20:50

The past few months I have been napping during my lunch break. Every day for about 45 minutes. Once when I first started napping I overslept so now I set an alarm Blush

Twice a week I get an almond croissant from the coffee shop for breakfast.

I’ve gone from washing my hair 4 times a week to every 10 days.

What bad habits have you picked up?

When working from home I definitely eat too much and drink too much coffee, just bought a bean to cup machine, so doubt my coffee consumption will go down.
Baked too many cakes - which I had to eat all by myself. Usually I take them to the office, but even there I was on my own.
I trick myself into getting dressed on WFH days by going for a walk before work.
A good "bad" habit: I talk to my two year old nephew on WhatsApp Video at least twice a week, usualle he points at the phone and says my name so my sister knows to ring me.
Read to much on the internet, play on my phone too much and have become a terrible procrastinator.

Oysterbabe · 09/10/2020 22:11

I'm going to try a lunchtime nap next week. I normally use my lunch hour to have a shower and change out of my PJs. I play Animal Crossing on my Switch during meetings and training.

I like putting terrible music on and singing my heart out.

Starting work at 7.30 and finishing between 5 and 6. The commute previously meant not arriving until 9 (left at 6.30) and leaving at 4 to get home at 6. So getting lots more done, a bit more sleep and building lots of flexi so I can have a day off. I am monitored every moment of the day tho. I won't go on video, so manky hair and no make up but I do wash and dress or I can't work. I used to make a sandwich the night before for lunch but I am now not bothering and eating toast or crisps so I can read a book during half hr break. I thought I was the only slattern who wore the same top 2 days in a row. Feel a bit better now! Not moving enough, I go days without opening the front door. Computer to tell to bed interspersed with trips to the fridge.

Oops tell = telly!

Teams: occasionally put yourself into do-not-disturb status, as though you needed to concentrate on a piece of work. Then when you want to take a nap, you can use d-n-d status and everybody thinks you're doing something really important ...

My bad habit is occasionally watching Classic Corrie on the television when I should be working. I do keep the phone to hand just in case any urgent Teams chat comes through ...

I hadn't thought about doing "other things" whilst on a live presentation call when you cannot interact. Honestly, I just sit there listening to it and trying to resist the urge to wander the internet or check FB on my phone. Now you've put the idea in my head - I can foresee that I'll be wrapping Christmas presents during such calls towards the end of the year Smile

My boss dozed off the other day during his Teams call Grin His camera was off but we were in the office and I was sat three desks away so I noticed.

Snacking
Getting up at the last possible minute
Lunch break naps or showers
Rarely brushing my hair
Rarely leaving the house

RhubarbBikini · 09/10/2020 22:25

Had a job interview by Teams this week. The only time in my life I've attended an interview wearing fluffy slippers!

Chickenwing · 09/10/2020 23:09

Thanks @queencranberry and @fortunesfavour

I have purchased a mouse jiggler off amazon (£21 but so worth it) and until it arrives i will do the word document method Grin

TwentyViginti · 09/10/2020 23:13

@Taswama

How do we nominate this for Classics?
Report it!

I have! I no longer work, but spend my own days looking feral and eating biscuits. And farting.

temproasted · 09/10/2020 23:33

@FortunesFavour

I love this thread. It’s had me in stitches. I particularly love the dirty toothed farter upthread GrinGrinGrin So funny!
Happy to be of service Grin
Lineofconcepcion · 09/10/2020 23:37

@sapnupuas

I've stopped washing my hair every day. It's now about twice a week.

The traffic between my bedroom and living room is often quite bad so I'm 5/10 mins late in the morning.

Watching films instead of working.

Disappearing for 20 minutes at about 10 for a shower instead of getting ready before work.

Loving your traffic issues 🤣😎
Coffee4Queen · 09/10/2020 23:42

@Lactarius

I have started making chain mail armour during meetings - am currently working on a coif
I have so many questions Grin

Not just you!

LifeHasGoneCrazy · 10/10/2020 06:37

VerbenaGirl... lunchtime baths, how luxurious!!! Love it, I must try it!

I wake at 4am to scribble in a manuscript on DV I'm working on that's been my revived habit after 7years of abuse stopped me writing... I got my first ever publishing deal yesterday and I just cried with happiness.

Saying sorry for crying... bad and good tears... that's a bad WFH I need to kick so I'm told.

I'm napping between 2-3pm, allowing my bairns a little extra screen time so I can snooze!

I also bake like a demon... honestly, it's a Bake Off season every week from my maisonette. My neighbours, friends and family love their cakes delivered on their doorsteps... I wouldn't dream of going on Bake Off, I'd rather hide under my duvet, but I just wanna make people smile, it's been so long since people did it naturally!!!! Xx

Hollyhocksarenotmessy · 10/10/2020 08:03

My people Smile

Mid afternoon nap
Soap dodging, shower about twice a week and wash hair once a week.
Don't get dressed till after lunch.
What's a bra again?
Do laundry, dishwasher, tidying during meetings where I'm not participating much. I make sure I pop up with a comment twice per meeting to prove I'm there.

2020hello · 10/10/2020 08:13

On my live teams I always clean my toilet as its right next to my desk Grin

Ratatcat · 10/10/2020 08:16

Some of these are quite funny but there are a few that are a bit sad or worrying really. I know at work that there are quite a few people who are really struggling with wfh and a lack of self-care is probably a symptom of that.

The culture around video on/off probably makes a big difference.

Loftyloft · 10/10/2020 08:30

Awesome ideas.

Agree with no more bras; I live in Sloggi Zero Feel Bralettes. Wearing them is like being hugged by a cloud. And and I don’t think it’s super obvious under clothes it’s not a normal bra. I can’t see me ever going back.

FortunesFavour · 10/10/2020 08:39

temproasted: you may pong a bit sometimes, but your funny bones make up for it you little legend Grin

garlictwist · 10/10/2020 08:43

Chocolate. Oh, the chocolate. With some horror, I realised three weeks ago that I was consuming around 2000 calories a day in chocolate alone. I've stopped now but I am feeling its absence.

Christmasfairy2020 · 10/10/2020 08:50

Lazysundayafternoons · 10/10/2020 08:54

@RhubarbBikini

Had a job interview by Teams this week. The only time in my life I've attended an interview wearing fluffy slippers!
Me too in September, wore a smart blouse and jacket, hair and make up done... then my leggings and slippers (none of my proper trousers/skirts fit me any more).
Bertyb7 · 10/10/2020 08:58

An afternoon bath every day between 3 and 4 or whenever I feel I need it. Computer propped up on an over bath tray and I continue to work away. My colleagues are none the wiser and it is so stress relieving! Not sure how I'm going to survive without one when back in the office 😂

Taswama · 10/10/2020 08:59

Yes you are right @Ratatcat - I was particularly bad at the height of lockdown when I was just running between schoolwork and work and barely leaving the house. Having a reason to make a bit of an effort now (washing hair) makes me feel a lot better.
