Bad WFH habits

Coffee4Queen · 08/10/2020 20:50

The past few months I have been napping during my lunch break. Every day for about 45 minutes. Once when I first started napping I overslept so now I set an alarm Blush

Twice a week I get an almond croissant from the coffee shop for breakfast.

I’ve gone from washing my hair 4 times a week to every 10 days.

What bad habits have you picked up?

I've become a total soap Dodger

Also wear same clothes all week

Hair hardly gets a wash

Make up is minimal

Always always snacking

Drinking gallons of coffee

I look like Mrs Twit

QueenOllie · 09/10/2020 14:55

So envious Envy I have to be taking calls as usual so sat working from 8-6
Literally can't move from my desk apart from official breaks and can't go over at all on allowed time for lunch/breaks
I did make an extra cup of tea this morning and I'm wearing leggings though Grin so that's my bonus

Taswama · 09/10/2020 14:57

Fabulous thread.
Yes to reduced hair washing and frequency of changing clothes.
For me its 2 hour lunch breaks, which aren't even proper but breaks as I'll check my email / work WhatsApp group frequently during it.
People say good morning on the WhatsApp group and its got competitive on how early it is, so if you say good morning at 8.15 you are probably the last one!
Too much blurring of work / home lines. Much preferred switching the computer off at 5.30pm on a Friday, and having a proper break at lunchtime rather than feeling I need to check emails constantly and taking calls on the school run.

ckk123 · 09/10/2020 14:59

Snacking every 10 minutes! Cake Brew Biscuit

puffinkoala · 09/10/2020 15:05

My laptop logs off after 5 mins and shows me as "away" on teams. Ive tried to set to last longer but it doesnt work.... does anyone have tricks

Can you dangle your mouse in such a way that it moves all the time when you are away from your desk?

In a previous job my screen would lock after 10 mins and even though I said I worked from home and nobody could see, IT wouldn't change it for me. I was constantly waggling the mouse every time I went past. It wasn't that hard to unlock the screen but it annoyed me.

@Coffee4Queen

I’ve been covering the camera lens bit on all my electronics for years, after watching a movie where hackers can turn on the camera even if the computer is off. I’m lucky my work says we don’t have to switch on our cameras if we don’t want to.
We are ‘video first’, so all calls have to be video. I don’t mind it most of the time, I’m relatively new and not met quite a few of my colleagues so it’s been easier to get to know people. I do keep it covered when I’m not using it though.
TheFuckingDogs · 09/10/2020 15:56

I’m amazed more of you haven’t said lunch time sex! Surely this has to be one of the biggest wfh things?!
We can’t wfh but love this thread!

onetwothreeadventure · 09/10/2020 16:12

Thanks OP for starting, this thread has given me so many laughs (probably because I identify with half the bad habits!).

LindaEllen · 09/10/2020 16:20

I'm awful for lying in, napping (sometimes both ha ha), not going out enough, eating crap, and having to work late into the night to make up for amount of time I've wasted in the day.

I'd like to say it's because I'm struggling to adapt to working from home .. but I've done so for EIGHT years now!

justjuggling · 09/10/2020 17:45

Only wash my hair twice a week, haven’t worn make up since March, way more biscuits, and I now wear ‘comfort’ bras - they don’t do much in terms of support but they are SO comfy!!

I8toys · 09/10/2020 17:48

I getting fecking hacked off with it now. I work 2 days at home anyway so the transition wasn't hard at the start but to have nothing to look forward to and just the cat to talk to is doing my head in. I go out maybe once a week and dart into the house in case anyone sees me as I look feral. I've been at home since end March and it was okay when the weather was good and the kids/husband were off school.

I aim to get dressed everyday as I hate talking to my boss in my pyjamas and need to answer the door to the numerous parcels being delivered because I've become obsessed with shopping for Christmas.

I very rarely wash, brush my hair - just wear a bun - and the same clothes for forever. I can't remember the last time I wore heels. I get overly excited when a new series comes on Netflix, Prime or Now so I can binge it in a day. I also like it when the postman, Hermes, dhl man comes as its like Christmas every day.

Oh and I love it when Squidly and Diddly, our squirrels, come for their nuts.

Greencauliflowers · 09/10/2020 17:52

Waking up at the last possible minute, watching tv while I work, going sans bra (unless I have a meeting) only washing hair twice a week and sometimes I have a luxurious bath in my lunch break!

NotMeNoNo · 09/10/2020 17:57

Mumsnetting even more than usual. One of these days I am going to share the wrong screen on Teams.

Dadtimes3 · 09/10/2020 17:59

You should be able to Google a short script ( .bat file type) that once you open in morning will simulate a key press at a set time period

cricketmum84 · 09/10/2020 18:06

Yes to lunchtime naps!

My skin is so much healthier with minimal makeup. I don't wear it for weeks at a time.

My hair is much healthier not being washed as much, it was really dry before after being bleached so it's doing much better now.

alwaysthepessimist · 09/10/2020 18:09

Gah I am so jealous of all of you that don't have to use video calling, our place insist on it but in between I watch TV, crochet and also nap. House is cleaner - now having to clean the house at the weekend is annoying, god knows how I am going to cope when we have to go back to an office, I am hoping I am going to be able to negotiate a part week wfh - not sure I can do a whole day without a power nap anymore!

Cripesitsthegasman19 · 09/10/2020 18:13

Sit in my dressing gown, eat loads of garlic as no-one will smell my garlic breath.

Cripesitsthegasman19 · 09/10/2020 18:14

Haven't bothered dying my hair this year either. It's practically a natural colour after 20 years of highlighting.

CantDoMessyBuns · 09/10/2020 18:18

I worked from home for nearly 6 months, but been back for a month.

I washed my hair less and napped more, for sure. Ate loads more crap. But did get to have lunch in my garden over the summer and go for walks when I felt like it, which was nice. I really loved the sense of freedom initially.

The novelty of home working wore off towards the end, though. I felt demotivated, slobby and missed seeing people in the flesh.

I’ve absolutely loved being back at work. I’ve lost weight, got more energy, loving getting dressed up every day and things that used to piss me off don’t anymore. Definitely got a bit of perspective from this whole pandemic lark.

Gutted we might go back to home working if stricter measures come back in.

nicknamehelp · 09/10/2020 18:25

eatting too much sugar, drinking too much coke, wearing scruffy comfy clothes, not leaving the house for days.

CatNoBag · 09/10/2020 18:27

I've been working from home for decades!

I wash my hair most days (it's very oily) but might not brush it for days.

Spend most days in workout clothes, don't always do any exercise. The workout clothes have developed because otherwise I spend all day in my PJs thinking I'm going to go for a run/do a YouTube workout/yoga etc so no point getting showered and dressed.

I'm pretty good at not snacking now, mostly try to avoid the kitchen outside of mealtimes (I work in the living room).

Get up super early intending to start working immediately, but faff around for ages and don't actually start until 10am and end up working until 7/8/9pm.

Mumsnet (and general internet rabbit holes when I should be working...)

Rh966 · 09/10/2020 18:38

Napping.. not washing hair .. no make up .. not showering until mid day ..I tinted my eyebrows the other day during one meeting and went for a wee 😊😀

PeachesTheFlamingo · 09/10/2020 18:53

Where do I start...

My alarm is set for 15 mins before I start work.

KitKat everyday at 10.30am!

I have spent entire days working from the sofa in my PJs.

I don't brush my hair. Most mornings it just gets pulled up into a ponytail and I'm ready to start my day.

The TV is on in the background 95% of the time. It's not a distraction, just nice to have some background noise.

I find I'm actually spending more time in front of my laptop than I would if I was in the office.

I have to reset my laptop on average 8 times a day due to connectivity issues.

Some weeks I don't leave the house for days.
