Week 3 - Low Carb Bootcamp - the going starts to get tough now!

BIWI · 29/10/2018 07:54

Morning all.

Despite my intentions, I still woke up early this morning. However, it was an hour or so later than usual, so that's an extra hour!

Anyway, here's the spreadsheet for you to record the results of last week

I hope the results are good!

Just remember that weeks 3 and 4 are notorious for little/no weight loss!

You have a choice to make now. You can either stick to Bootcamp, if it suits you, or you can move on to Bootcamp Light, which means you can re-introduce some fruit (berries) and some nuts/seeds as well as alcohol - all in moderation.

However, given the issue with weeks 3 & 4, you might decide you want to stay on Bootcamp. That in itself is no guarantee that you will lose, but at least you know you're being as strict as you can be!

Some people choose a hybrid, which is Bootcamp Light at the weekend, but stay on Bootcamp during the week.

Whatever you choose, just be aware that from here on, we're looking to see a loss of around 1-2lbs per week. Which is a good and healthy loss!

Here's to a good week Flowers

Ok so I've just had lunch. A big portion of left over beef bourginon with celeriac and leek mash. Even though my stomach is absolutely full full. I really want more or something sweet.

3 x coffees with cream today. I probably won't have more as conscious I need water more.

Already had 2.25L of water and a peppermint tea.

I wonder if I need to add more fat to these meals to curb wanting more.

I'm still recovering from the flu and still lacking energy. Need to get in to see the GP, my right ear is still blocked....brilliant when I want selective hearing but the pressure is making me feel bleughhh and foggy.

Off to have another peppermint tea🙄 and look up pork scratchings online. Love that you can get them in home bargains Jax! Never thought of looking there. There's one on my way home along with a sainsburys😃👍
Doilooklike I've probably done a man look in tesco and not notice them hanging up. I'll be investigating lol

Love that you've done a low carb dinner party prettybird! What else did you serve if you don't mind me asking? Reminds me I need to add a celeriac to today's shop list...will have a go at the rostis. I'll try baking them.

WheelyWheelySpookilicousCotee · 30/10/2018 14:30

Oh just to add for breakfast I've eaten 3/4 of celery bunch and half a tub of Philadelphia 😳

prettybird · 30/10/2018 14:41

Wheely that particular one was a long time ago. Think it was seared scallops and grilled goats cheese with crispy bacon for starter, fillet of beef rolled in herbs (having been semi roasted, semi braised in red wine and Madeira) with a juniper and thyme jus, celeriac rösti and creamy leeks, followed by chocolate & cardamom pots (in recipe thread: Boot Camp Lite compatible Wink).

The amount of wine that would have been drunk would not have been Boot Camp Lite compatible Blush

What I love about this WoE is that, with a bit of imagination, it is still possible to eat really well and be a foody Grin

Hello everyone! I placemarked yesterday but thought I’d come and say a proper hello. I’m late as I forgot the start date Sad. It’s been a good restart though- I’d forgotten how much I’d missed reading these threads for advice! I fell off the last bootcamp and haven’t lost anything since, BUT since then my fitness has improved massively. I did Couch to 5k and kept going and then managed to do a 10K a couple of weeks ago - slowly but without walking at all! I’m very pleased as to begin with I couldn’t even run for a minute without stopping, and I’d never have started if I hadn’t lost a couple of stone with this WOE first.

So, now the challenge is to lose another couple of stone (at least) and keep the running going, with the aim of not actually being one of the last to finish next time I do a 10K Blush. And I’ve got my university finals in January so need to avoid the endless tea and and toast and biscuits while revising. Any advice for avoiding stress-eating very welcome!

I wanted to ask is coconut flour ok on bootcamp light? I have an amazing mug cake recipe using coconut flour and stevia, but not sure if it’s allowable. Also @prettybird, for your lasagna, do you dry out the courgette medallions or salt them, or just chuck them in as they are?

ShagMeRiggins · 30/10/2018 17:21

Will someone kindly link to the kicking off low carb thread? I’m super bored and don’t want to eat my boredom—would rather get het up about something! Grin

prettybird · 30/10/2018 17:37

I am now very hungry, having scrolled through the old Recipe thread to extract all the dessert-type recipes Shock for a new "Desserts and other sweet things" recipe thread (I checked with with BIWI first Wink)

www.mumsnet.com/Talk/low_carb_bootcamp/3409598-Desserts-and-other-sweet-things-Recipe-thread?watched=1&msgid=82201109#82201109

...and it's not just the sweet things that have made me hungry: it reminded me that there are sooooo many good low-carb recipes for all sorts of things Smile

I am a moderator, so I can make the occasional low-carb dessert, without that de-railing me Smile. I recognise that there are many abstainers on here - so you don't need to go to that thread! Grin

ilovecherries · 30/10/2018 17:41

I keep dropping the link on my phone, shagme but its in AIBU and it's called something like 'AIBU to think that id you wear the fat you eat'

abbey44 · 30/10/2018 17:57

@BIWI - thank you. This is what I've been eating:

B: Coffee with cream or a two-egg omelette (one day though, I woke with v low blood sugar so I had two eggs scrambled, on Livlife low-carb toast - 3.5g carbs which I know I'm ok with)
L: If I've had omelette for breakfast, I'll have coffee with cream or a mug of chicken stock with cream (I'm not usually very hungry mid-day)
D: Vegetable stir-fry - cauliflower or broccoli rice, a courgette, some fine beans, little gem lettuce and a bag of spinach. Or a variation of that, depending what's in the fridge. Could be with a couple of chicken thighs or salmon fillets.

Or a bag of green salad, with olives, avocado, bacon lardons and a couple of chicken thighs.

Snacks - tend not to very much, but I have had some BabyBel cheeses and some salted pecans/almonds, which don't put my blood sugars up, but can just keep me going till a mealtime.

I have (in addition to coffees in the morning) about three mugs of green tea over the day (that's almost 1L in total) and 2L of water.

I've walked the dogs for two hours (and done more than my 10,000 steps) every day bar one, when we were all just too knackered and it was raining anyway.

Maybe I need new scales....? (said hopefully Smile)

abbey44 · 30/10/2018 18:10

Oh, I forgot the other thing I've had for dinner is buttered sprouts with bacon & chilli.

oopsadaisy77 · 30/10/2018 18:17

Thank you for your encouraging replies - if I could rid some of the horrific pmt that would be Life changing for me. I’m scared of pmt getting worse though. Should I be on the week 1 thread ? But you all seem so nice .... Smile

I’m going to start officially tomorrow as I have been semi dipping in and out ie made my kids sandwiches and had a bread roll at breakfast but been low carb for last two days. I just want to see if it works and to enjoy life beyond food. Winter makes me want to get under a blanket and hide which doesn’t help.

Onwards and upwards!

StuntNun · 30/10/2018 18:41

Wheely the Twinings Buttermint tea is good when you feel like something sweet. It's zero carb but still manages to taste like Werther's Originals.

No stay on this thread Oopsa as this is the one everybody is posting on.

StuntNun · 30/10/2018 18:42

Abbey it doesn't look like you're eating very much - could be your calorie intake is too low for effective weight loss.

reddA · 30/10/2018 18:49

I made cookies today with coconut flour etc. I didn't like them very much, I found them really dry, they were ok dipped in greek yogurt but not really worth it even if low carb, would rather do without Sad

StAlphonzospancakebreakfast · 30/10/2018 18:52

I didn’t realise olives were so low carb, i’m excited about that! Stopped off in Waitrose tonight for more yoghurt, celeriac (not ever eaten that I don’t think! Very remiss of me) and olives, Yey!

StAlphonzospancakebreakfast · 30/10/2018 18:52

I thought you meant the wedding low carb post which also kicked off!

JadziaSnax · 30/10/2018 19:01

Where does everyone get cauliflower/ broccoli rice from? I've kept an eye out when shopping but I've never seen it.

abbey44 · 30/10/2018 19:07

@StuntNun - is that a thing...? Not eating enough stops you losing? I have quite big helpings of all those things and I don't really feel hungry very often. I'm not sure I could eat more of the same...

Jadzia - Sainsbury's do both in their veg section, so I imagine other supermarkets will too, but it's easier (and cheaper) to do your own - just blitz it in a food processor until it's as fine as you want it. Celeriac is lovely riced as well.

prettybird · 30/10/2018 19:10

Oopsadaisy - it will be useful for you to read the Week 1 and Week 2 threads, just because some of the questions you may have may have already been answered. But post on this thread as this is the currently active one and we'll be able to support you Smile

ShagMeRiggins · 30/10/2018 19:13

“that id you wear the fat you eat'”

Ha ha ha, ilovecherries. Not provocative at all!

Thank you

StuntNun · 30/10/2018 19:23

It's difficult to guess calories from your food list Abbey but as a rule of thumb you should be somewhere between 1400 and 1800 calories. I have three or four eggs for breakfast! Remember an egg is only 90 calories so two eggs isn't a big breakfast, even if scrambled or fried. If you're not happy with your rate of weight loss then I would try ditching the cream in your coffee for a few days to see whether it makes a difference.

abbey44 · 30/10/2018 19:36

OK, Stunt, I'll ditch the dairy and up the eggs - that's no hardship as I love scrambled eggs. Fingers crossed for next Monday then. It's not so much that I'm unhappy with my rate of loss as frustrated by the gaining, despite everything - I wish there were a loss...!

WheelyWheelySpookilicousCotee · 30/10/2018 20:09

Jad cauli rice I get from tesco but it's not called cauli rice.

Look in the freezer section where all the veg is. It's called something like chopped cauliflour and looks like cauli crumbs on the packet.
I get mine from tesco....sorry I can't give you proper name as I've eaten all of mine. Love it.

Stuntnun I love you😃 I'm sat with a buttermint peppermint tea....yum! I'm going to try what you've suggested to abbey and dropping the cream in my coffee for a couple of days

Prettybird oh my word! I drooled reading the dinner you prepared.....I've now added scallops to my shop list for next week

I found pork scratchings, feels like a proper snack treat

Pengweng · 30/10/2018 20:12

Breakfast was hard boiled egg and mint tea.
Lunch was tuna mixed with mayo, grated cheese and green pepper. Hard boiled egg.
Dinner - home made burger with roasted broccoli and coleslaw (home made).
Snack of cheese and some olives.

Have been rubbish with water today. I find it hard to drink much as I can't leave my class to run to the look. I have had 1 pint before work, a glass at lunch and a litre since I got home. Going to try harder tomorrow to get more water in.

Pengweng · 30/10/2018 20:14

Oh and I'm really excited that Morrisons had frozen cauliflower rice and broccoli rice! Will be so easy to do those for me while the kids and DH have rice etc.

StAlphonzospancakebreakfast · 30/10/2018 20:40

abbey i also had my golden shot (is that what it’s called?!) about 5yrs ago and lost loads, I have tried a few times since with no loss (but not for long). This time I went really low carb for the first 2 weeks (under 20g but usually around 14g a day) to try and really kick start it and it did work (and then a 2 week pause but hoping that’s over now). I know we don’t count carbs on bootcamp but my first 2 weeks were before I discovered you all! And I found it really helpful to measure and weigh all the food and track everything
