Week 3 - Low Carb Bootcamp - the going starts to get tough now!

Morning all.

Despite my intentions, I still woke up early this morning. However, it was an hour or so later than usual, so that's an extra hour!

Anyway, here's the spreadsheet for you to record the results of last week

I hope the results are good!

Just remember that weeks 3 and 4 are notorious for little/no weight loss!

You have a choice to make now. You can either stick to Bootcamp, if it suits you, or you can move on to Bootcamp Light, which means you can re-introduce some fruit (berries) and some nuts/seeds as well as alcohol - all in moderation.

However, given the issue with weeks 3 & 4, you might decide you want to stay on Bootcamp. That in itself is no guarantee that you will lose, but at least you know you're being as strict as you can be!

Some people choose a hybrid, which is Bootcamp Light at the weekend, but stay on Bootcamp during the week.

Whatever you choose, just be aware that from here on, we're looking to see a loss of around 1-2lbs per week. Which is a good and healthy loss!

Here's to a good week Flowers

Am KOKO. Tired and cold but sticking to it! I am sleeping much better, except for having to get up at 4am every night to wee!

I may have found something which will help others who need to grab a quick lunch - @BIWI is this tuna ok? It’s scrummy so I hope so! Small tins so easy to pop over a salad bag, and has a resealable lid on the offchance there’s any left...

That tuna looks brilliant - and really tasty Smile

I was down to 11stone 5lb this morning - so that's 50lb since I started last May (2017) Halo I'd got there this summer though Blush - so another 2lb to go before I've got beyond where I got to last Boot Camp Smile

I will do it Grin - I'm even thinking of giving myself a November targer of breaking 11stone - although I won't beat myself up if I don't make it.

I am KOKO today - despite doing a marathon baking session for ds, as we're going up to see him in Aberdeen tomorrow Shock I made a batch of tablet for him last night and packed it up today - and only had one very small piece ducks BIWI's Big Stick Wink to check the texture. Have made him more granola (with oats, so not Low Carb) and have just completed a batch of gluten free choc chip cookies that his flat mate can eat (he took some up last time he was down and made a special request for more). Next up is gluten free orange drizzle cake (also a repeat request) and then a batch of ordinary choc chip cookies for his rugby team (I have a tradition of making choc chip cookies for the teams he's played for ).

But I'm not actually tempted to eat any of them Halo Although I am needing to have a wee seat to catch my breath Grin

All that baking sounds Exhausting!
I went into work today during half term, so had to make do with whatever I could find for lunch.
B. Boiled egg and coffee with cream
L. Celery, cucumber, pate, cheese and avocado. Oh and another egg.
D. Curry, using up leftovers.
Had dipped below 60kg this morning which was nice to see! Drank a fair bit of water but it was bloody freezing in my classroom so less than I should.

I need ideas for lunches and breakfast, I leave the house at 7am usually, I eat breakfast either in traffic Angry as its often at a standstill or as soon as I get in. Have a break at 10.30 which I'm hoping I won't need to eat at and lunch at 1.30, by which point I can have been in the go for 6hrs so I'm starving. I often only get 20 mins, can heat stuff up but often don't have time to...
Thinking salads etc, soup is handy, if I get time to reheat, I also try to keep things like those tuna lunches in my cupboard, but just realised they have kidney beans etc so too high carb.
Any ideas?

More downward movement on the scales, only 6.5lb before i’m normal BMI (i’m tall) which i’m feeling cheerful about, and I broke the stone barrier this morning so am now in the 12st range not the 13st range. Whoop! Last time I low carbed I got to 12st 1lb so a way to go

Anyway, just got back from work, feeling stressed, all sorts of minor niggles going on that may necessitate a glass of wine later (although usually i’m so tired by then I don’t bother!). But I have been looking forward to celeriac bubble and squeak someone mentioned ... is it just celeriac and leeks boiled mashed and fried? I’m going to have it with fried egg for the full experience!

StAlphonzospancakebreakfast · 01/11/2018 17:54

youcantscareme when i’m working I tend to have yoghurt with a few flakes almonds for breakfast, or I pre boil eggs and then just heat them up quickly and have them with butter. I’m not usually that hungry at lunch but a typical work one might be an avocado and cheese with a boiled egg or some veggy sausages. I’m always properly hungry when I get home though!

oldbirdy · 01/11/2018 18:29

Well I am struggling with the worst cold I have had in probably ten years. No sense of taste, no appetite, muzzy head, constant coughing and sneezing. My eyes hurt, my head hurts, and I feel very sorry for myself. I will have to start over once I have any energy or inclination to cook again.

We're very quiet this bootcamp!

BIWI · 01/11/2018 18:38

I've whipped people into shape this time, @oldbirdy. It's only taken me 6 years Wink

blackteaplease · 01/11/2018 18:39

Yes there's not much chat going on this bootcamp. I wonder where everyone is.

I hope you shift your cold soon @oldbirdy.

BIWI · 01/11/2018 18:40

@Youcantscaremeihavechildren

How about making some breakfast muffins? You can make a batch of 12 at the weekend (they really don't take long to make) and then have a couple each day. Also easy to transport in the car.

For lunch - why not leftovers from dinner the night before? Otherwise, just buy ordinary tins of tuna and mix them up with mayo.

It's interesting how every Boot Camp has its own distinctive feel.

If people are struggling or needing support or have questions, please do post and the there are plenty of us who will offer support/our experience/answer questions where we can Smile

No question is too stupid or too trivial. We've probably seen or experienced them all! Grin

Tiredofit · 01/11/2018 19:20

I didn’t have a great day yesterday. Well, it was fine until I arrived home with ds at the same time as the Sainsbury shopping and the first lot of guisers. All our goodies were gone in the first half hour so I —sent ds round the doors to restock— closed the curtains, turned out the lights and drank a glass and a half of red wind and ate 4 squares of dark chocolate.

I’ve been fine today and hope there won’t be to much damage on
Monday.

Our Iceland does frozen cauliflower rice and Asda do frozen or fresh.

Youcantscaremeihavechildren · 01/11/2018 19:44

Thanks for the suggestions biwi and stalphonzo, I'll look up some recipes. I could mix tuna mayo salad leaves and avocado maybe, never thought about flaked almonds, perfect, I used to do a bit of granola on yoghurt, just trying to find something else for the crunch. Maybe chia seeds? Muffins sound good, ill try making some bits on Sunday for the week ahead. I guess it's all about prepping really.

BIWI · 01/11/2018 20:05

Go and check, out the vegetarian recipe thread, @Youcantscaremihavechildren - there's a lovely recipe on there for low carb granola (from Rose Elliot's book)

Justmuddlingalong · 01/11/2018 20:13

I put a teaspoon of crunchy peanut butter in the small tub of Lidl's Greek yoghurt. It takes longer to mix than to eat, but it does provide that wee bit of crunch.

AthelstaneTheUnready · 01/11/2018 20:27

I'm a lot busier this bootcamp than the last two, for sure. Hanging on in there, but struggling more than I was - probably down to the busy.

Poor oldbirdy

youcantscareme, I also leave the house by 7, so tend to have a really creamy coffee instead of breakfast, which keeps me going to late mornning. Lunches in a rush tend to be a large tupperware box full of either tuna mayonnaise with chopped salad, or chunks of whatever bit of meat I cooked in the previous days for dinner (chicken, beef, pork belly), with mixed salad, babybels and avocados. Keeps me going until about 7 again.

Rshard · 01/11/2018 20:58

I know it’s slighlty off topic but I’d be interested in your gluten free recipes prettybird. My dd has recently been diagnosed

WheelyWheelySpookilicousCotee · 01/11/2018 20:58

Oh Oldbirdy feeling for you. I had something a couple of weeks ago. My right ear is still blocked. Knocked me for six.
Do the old classic of bowl of hot water with Albas oil drops in and get your head over it with a towel over you. Steam will help your cough and sinuses.
Feel better soon lovely

oldbirdy · 01/11/2018 21:11

Thanks everyone. I must have sounded rough in the night as my famously unsympathetic dh offered to go to the all night Tesco to get lemsip at 4:30 am!
Still left the house at 7 am leaving me to do the school run though 😪

I am hoping to be over the worst tomorrow. Meeting in school for 6th former who is struggling with his A levels. Joy!

gibson2018 · 01/11/2018 21:51

Can I please join? I am a veggie - any meals plans I can follow?

Doilooklikeatourist · 01/11/2018 21:51

@oldbirdy , I had the cold from hell a couple of weeks ago , it took longer than normal to feel better ( only good thing was I lost my
appetite)
Re pork scratchings , I went to Tesco this evening , and they were on hangers in the bottled water / squash aisle
Have had a bad disorganised day ... over slept so had breakfast late
B cheese omlette
L veg soup with cream and grated cheese
D ( very late as we went to the cinema ) veg soup with cream and pork scratchings
Bootcamp light snack .. glass of Sauvignon Blanc
Needs some proper green veg and meat tomorrow I think

StAlphonzospancakebreakfast · 01/11/2018 22:05

gibson hooray another veggie on the thread Grin (I just muddle through so no help on meal plans but there is a vegetarian recipe thread in the bootcamp topic

Littleorangetree · 01/11/2018 22:15

Been a busy day today, but I've managed to keep to the right sorts of food, which has been a miracle!

I'm quite impressed with myself as I actually managed to resist a heaving tableful of cakes, pringles and dips at work today for someone's birthday Halo. I then came home and managed to resist my son offering me some of his Halloween sweetie collection from being out guizing last night! I really have the feeling that, for me, it's sort of all or nothing. If I have just one sweet/crisp/carby thing that'll be me and I'll fall off the wagon.

What's everyone planning to do about Christmas parties etc. in December? I think it's going to be impossible for me to avoid having a few drinks and carby food at my work christmas meal, but I'm hoping to get back on the wagon asap afterwards before I get completey de-railed.

B: coffee, yoghurt with cream and cinnamon
L: leftover pork belly, salad and mayo
D: broccoli and courgette with cheese sauce (made with cream and cheese) with a few slices of chorizo.
S: hard boiled egg

LeapinLizards · 01/11/2018 22:21

Welcome gibson, I'm veggie too. Like stalphonzo says, vegetarian recipe thread is where to start- lots of ideas. Also Rose Eliot's low carb vegetarian cookbook is worth a look. I'm a bit rubbish at trying new recipes & tend to stick to same things. I'm not that interested in cooking.
oldbirdy hope you feel better. prettybird your son's flatmates will LOVE you for all those goodies.

gibson2018 · 01/11/2018 22:33

Fellow veggies - some typical days menus would be great!

gibson2018 · 01/11/2018 22:34

And thanks for the welcome!
