Week 3 - Low Carb Bootcamp - the going starts to get tough now!

BIWI · 29/10/2018 07:54

Morning all.

Despite my intentions, I still woke up early this morning. However, it was an hour or so later than usual, so that's an extra hour!

Anyway, here's the spreadsheet for you to record the results of last week

I hope the results are good!

Just remember that weeks 3 and 4 are notorious for little/no weight loss!

You have a choice to make now. You can either stick to Bootcamp, if it suits you, or you can move on to Bootcamp Light, which means you can re-introduce some fruit (berries) and some nuts/seeds as well as alcohol - all in moderation.

However, given the issue with weeks 3 & 4, you might decide you want to stay on Bootcamp. That in itself is no guarantee that you will lose, but at least you know you're being as strict as you can be!

Some people choose a hybrid, which is Bootcamp Light at the weekend, but stay on Bootcamp during the week.

Whatever you choose, just be aware that from here on, we're looking to see a loss of around 1-2lbs per week. Which is a good and healthy loss!

Here's to a good week Flowers

vegetarian recipe thread

prettybird · 02/11/2018 00:13

Rshard - I will PM you with the recipes rather than derail this one with non-Boot Camp recipes Blush

It will probably be Sunday or Monday before I do though.

MumOfAPickle · 02/11/2018 00:48

Evening all, I’m still here trucking on! Had a good few days, lots of eggs for breakfast and I roasted some chicken thighs with shallots and garlic and made a celeriac dauphinois on Monday so that gave me 3 days lunches. Have resisted all temptation at work (my place is terrible for always having biscuits and cakes and for everyone commenting when you refuse 🙄). Book group tonight was tough as the host had made a vege chilli so some kind of bean and I think some sort of root veg in it? I had a small portion and had plenty of guacamole, sour cream and grated cheese!

This bc has definitely been tougher for me just due to the number of events and how busy I’ve been since it started. Still got dh’s birthday to get through but we’re having a meal at a nice Italian on Sunday so there should be plenty of low carb options and I’m going to offer to drive. I’m going to drive to the fireworks sat night as well to help me avoid the yummy mulled wine!!

oldbirdy hope you get well soon

Rshard · 02/11/2018 05:59

Thanks prettybird, sending by on is v sensible!

Laska5772 · 02/11/2018 06:14

I haven been posting recently .. sadly family/elderly parent issues have meant that I have not been focusing on at all on BC although I have continued to eat L/C - which I have done since the last BC. (but, yes, also having the odd drink)!.

As a result I have lost nothing, which of course I didn't expect to ..but I have stayed pretty much the same , so that's good..hopefully things will settle down a bit. I do need to focus on me again.

However loads of encouragement to BC-ers .. keep at it.. I found last bootcamp I steadily lost over the whole period and ended up a stone down, ( which I have maintained ,pretty much sometimes slightly up and down) since. it just becomes a standard WOE after a while ..

A couple of weeks ago after not eating anything like that since before last BC I had a couple of chips , DH had made some) . It really was only a couple, I actually found after two that they were just not worth it (who'd have thought i d ever feel like that about chips? )Grin

boldlygoingsomewhere · 02/11/2018 07:05

I’m still here too. Been busy at work and not much time to post.

I’ve been making celeriac chips - so nice and I much prefer them to the usual potato ones.

prettybird, I’m impressed you bake while doing this! I think I’m passed those cravings for sweet things now but I do like to taste the things I make.

I’m a bit worried though - my hair is starting to fall out and feels quite thin and sparse. Never had that before...could it be the diet? Any advice?

boldlygoingsomewhere · 02/11/2018 07:07

Welcome to the thread gibson. Rose Elliot’s book is very good - I often use recipes from it even though I’m not veggie.

Feel better soon oldbird - it’s horrible feeling ill like that.

CodLiverOil556 · 02/11/2018 07:43

I'm still here keeping on and reading the thread everyday. The scales aren't moving but my fitted work dresses are getting looser so something is happening...I'm definitely less bloated and feel great.

I've put in fasting and can happily go 18 hours without food and not even feel hungry. I'm drinking the water but still finding that hard. Love this woe and won't be long til I've hit my target only 20lbs to go

Spiderkitty · 02/11/2018 08:51

I hope you feel better soon oldbirdy.

Do you pick your meal choice in advance for your work Christmas party Littleorangetree? I've just gone with the lowest carb option for ours (and I'm having a cheese board instead of dessert) and will avoid and bread/potatoes/gravy and if you want to have a drink you can always limit yourself to one or two lower carb options.

ShagMeRiggins · 02/11/2018 09:40

boldlygoing roughly how old are you? Asking because thinning hair can be simply part of the ageing process, or a result of many other things.

It’s not unusual to lose hair during dramatic weight loss, and not unusual after a few months on low carb. My understanding is that unless there is an underlying issue, this rights itself eventually.

flyright · 02/11/2018 10:09

i'm still here - thank you all for the posts - it's very motivating to keep reading these threads. Really helps to keep my head in the game.

Sorry to hear of illnesses and family issues - it's really hard to keep focused on eating habits and behaviours when life throws crap at you. Sometimes I think it's just a matter of not heading too far off track.

I'm managing mostly LC but as BIWI always says its not a forgiving WOE and I paid for some lapses during a work trip in the States . Back on it now - 4 pounds off last week - mostly US rubbish - but hoping for a pound or two a week now onwards.

Away at friends this weekend so will have to see what can be done food wise - and there will be wine.

Have a good weekend all, KOKO.

boldlygoingsomewhere · 02/11/2018 10:20

ShagMeRiggins, I’m 40 but suspect I may have mild thyroid issues. I’ve been tracking basal body temp for a few years and it’s lower than what would be classed as average. Have a few other symptoms which might point in that direction too. I think hair loss can be an indicator too. Might just be a coincidence that it’s appeared at the same time as low-carbing.

ferrier · 02/11/2018 10:34

Hiya all!
I'm hoping to join you all.
I'm hoping to get right on track with lchf .... I naturally tend that way but have the odd twinge for bread, doughnuts, crisps and chips.
I lost 2.5 stone last year (2017) and have kept all of it off until summer holidays this year ... too much booze and unrestricted eating undermined my good habits. So I've put on about 4lb of what I lost. I've got a BMI of 23 so perfectly healthy and I exercise a lot but ideally I'd like to lose another half to one stone.
So .... how do I join in .... are there some bootcamp rules somewhere? Do I need to start at week 1 or can I jump in at week 3?

oopsadaisy77 · 02/11/2018 13:53

Does anyone have any tips for something chocolatet breakfast time? I can’t handle savoury at 5:30am but want something with my coffee. I’ve looked at protein bars etc but think these are against the rules...

oldbirdy · 02/11/2018 15:07

oops
It might attract BIWI's stick but I have on bootcamp lite occasionally stirred some cocoa powder into my yoghurt...it's sugar free and lowish carb at 8.9 per 100g when I am having a teaspoon or less.

This chocolate is very low in sugar - less than 1 tsp per bar. The dark is lovely but I don't like the milk.

@stuntnun, may I pick your brain?im having a colonoscopy next week (a bi-annual test I have done as part of a long term longitudinal research study I’m part of). Anyway, last time I wasn’t on LCHF but just read the instructions again and the two days before I start my bowel prep are a nightmare. I’m to eat white toast, white rice, white plain pasta, white choc, vanilla ice cream, custards, hard sweets, and non-red jellies. No veggies at all Shock. Small amounts of white meat, but basically they stress that I should eat mainly white carbs for 48 hours. Accept having to do it, but dreading the impact both during and after. Am I better to increase my carbs over the next few days before I enter the carb fest bit? And how best to undo the damage afterwards as quickly as possible? Really worried about the psychological as well as physical impact of all those carbs.

BIWI · 02/11/2018 17:37

@oopsadaisy77. The whole point of avoiding sweet things on Bootcamp is to break the hold that they have over us! Can you really not go without?

prettybird · 02/11/2018 18:05

Ferrier - the Rules are in the Spreadsheet of Fabulousness which is linked to in the first post of this thread (and in each weekly Boot Camp thread). Welcome Flowers

Grah0SoontobeaFitty · 02/11/2018 18:50

@oopsadaisy77 so its the flavour your after try tossing a small piece of Cocoa Butter (1/2tsp) and tablespoon of normal butter in a coffee.

I blitz it in a magic bullet but be very careful and quick, less than 12 seconds from putting on blade to undoing, as the pressure will build up.

The Cocoa butter gives that sheen to chocolate and the taste without the sugar. With the 2 types of Fat you boost the levels and can easily sail through to the afternoon without hunger pangs.

Doilooklikeatourist · 02/11/2018 19:09

@ilovecherries , I’ve had a few colonoscopy, and I think the less you eat the better ( as it all gets expelled quite explosively once the lacative kicks in , as you no doubt know ) soft pale food is the way to go , lots of fluids , but not black currant squash , ( keep it pale , lemon or apple ) and if it has to be the soft carby stuff , it won’t be around too long 🤢

ilovecherries · 02/11/2018 19:40

Yes, been having them for about 8 years now, I’d just forgotten the instructions were quite so carb heavy. I’ve to go on a very low residue, high carb diet for 48 hours before starting the KleanPrep. My worry isn’t so much about the colonoscopy, but about what all those carbs will do to me when I haven’t eaten them for 18 months.

Grah0SoontobeaFitty · 02/11/2018 19:40

dug out the old pictures from previous BC - was a year ago - for Choco-BPC

That bag is still the one I'm using to day keep in the fridge have at least 1 a week so lasts well.

StuntNun · 02/11/2018 20:03

Cherries I take it you don't have to eat all those foods - white toast, white rice, white plain pasta, white choc, vanilla ice cream, custards, hard sweets, and non-red jellies
Do you know whether you have any problems with wheat/gluten?

Doilooklikeatourist · 02/11/2018 20:43

@cherries , I’d just choose the bits that are least bad , I’ve no idea about the affects of suddenly eating carbs , but as they will exit quickly, I’d probably not worry too much , personally I’d just keep the fluids topped up and not eat the carbs ( last time I had KleenPrep I vowed to fast for a week to avoid drinking the hideous poison 🤢🤢)

ilovecherries · 02/11/2018 21:16

No, I don’t have to eat them all (I hope!). No, it states specifically NOT to fast, but to eat freely from the allowed list for 48 hours. I never used to think I had a gluten problem but given how much my gut improved on this woe, I suspect I might have. The last twice I’ve basically lived on toast and rice pudding for 48 hours, but I’m worried now that will send me on a carb bender from hell.
