Week 3 - Low Carb Bootcamp - the going starts to get tough now!

Morning all.

Despite my intentions, I still woke up early this morning. However, it was an hour or so later than usual, so that's an extra hour!

Anyway, here's the spreadsheet for you to record the results of last week

I hope the results are good!

Just remember that weeks 3 and 4 are notorious for little/no weight loss!

You have a choice to make now. You can either stick to Bootcamp, if it suits you, or you can move on to Bootcamp Light, which means you can re-introduce some fruit (berries) and some nuts/seeds as well as alcohol - all in moderation.

However, given the issue with weeks 3 & 4, you might decide you want to stay on Bootcamp. That in itself is no guarantee that you will lose, but at least you know you're being as strict as you can be!

Some people choose a hybrid, which is Bootcamp Light at the weekend, but stay on Bootcamp during the week.

Whatever you choose, just be aware that from here on, we're looking to see a loss of around 1-2lbs per week. Which is a good and healthy loss!

Here's to a good week Flowers

I'm pretty much the same today, have seen lower weights during the week but they haven't stuck yet. I'd like to get comfortably away from that 11 stone barrier though, its just too close for comfort still. I did see 11 on the scales one morning this week, and I was slightly mortified, but nature took care of it an hour later and the next day I was below it again.

Wildheartsease · 29/10/2018 12:47

Another lb down :).

I had a midweek fail with some totally emotional ice-cream eating.

There was no excuse except being a bit under-the-weather and it was after making Christmas cake alone this year (for the first time) but much more serious strains have been navigated without such a fall.

Suddenly it was like having a team of deeply miserable teenagers in both ears: this is hopeless - there is too far to go -what's the point -who are you kidding - the weight-loss won't make a difference etc. etc. -Just negative thoughts but very powerful.

Looking back it is hard to see how eating ice-cream could have seemed like a solution to any of this. It was pure self-sabotage!

However, somehow it was possible to get up the next morning and get back on the plan -without looking back. There was no temptation to go on with the carby-twattyness.

This was surprising I think it was because HFLC has started to feel normal. + Because it seemed important to have something good to report to you all today. I can see so much courage and so much determination - and so much goodwill on this thread. It is really heartening.

Anyway, this is a rambling way of explaining that I wasn't expecting a loss this week and that the pound is a real bonus.

My dad sent me this today, courgette chips recipe, if anyone is going boot camp lite it might be good. He is veggy low carb, curing himself of type 2 diabetes so has to be under 20g a day. He has lost 3 stone in 2.5mths though! (But has been low carb on and off for years)

Ignore the mushroom tofu burger combo though, that sounds grim 😂

BIWI · 29/10/2018 13:05

@Tiredofit if you're struggling in the cold, why not try drinking hot water instead? With a slice of lemon in it, it's lovely! (and also very soothing on your tummy)

Just marking my place, despite booze consumption and a rogue roast potato yesterday, I'm down 3.5 lbs on last week, which I'm delighted with. Currently at a greasy spoon with DS who wanted burger and chips but has barely eaten them. Usually I'd be picking away at his chips etc but I haven't touched them, I haven't been picking at the kids leftovers at all.
B. Pork belly and egg
L. Egg, bacon and saus, not much choice really!
D. Roast chicken, brocoli, cauli cheese and greens.
Need to vary my meats, so much processed stuff the last few days.

reddA · 29/10/2018 13:36

Well done on all of the losses and staying the same everyone, it's a great achievement :) I started a couple of days late but have lost 6lbs overall, I have stuck to it religiously, I'd like to lose another 5lbs and then maintain. I'll add in some berries this week if I fancy it but I'm not going overboard, will also try some low carb baking (coconut flour etc.) again, not too much - I don't really have a sweet tooth anyway but I'd rather have a low carb treat than a couple of quality street or glass of wine.

Ex Dp joined in last week and has lost almost a stone, he's very overweight though and has been doing uber bootcamp due to not liking dairy or eggs, he's now a convert :) Shame it only gets rid of his fat and not his twatiness Grin KOKO everyone

OhCobblers · 29/10/2018 13:47

Could I please ask if someone could add in my weight loss when doing theirs as I'm having problems with the spreadsheet - thank you!

Week 1 lost 3 pounds
Week 2 lost 2 pounds!

Thank you!!

BIWI · 29/10/2018 13:48

@OhCobblers - have you downloaded the Google Docs app?

Great to see the losses, ReddA you just made me giggle.
After not moving much most of the week the scales are going in the right direction.

I've dodged roasties and crumble and custard at my Mums and yet another kids party full of beige carbs. I sat with a plate of cocktail sausages, it was the only thing there not wrapped in pastry or drenched in sugar. I'm feeling pretty good. I Don't care about sweet things at all but as someone on the other thread said the smell of sugary things is really strong, I'm sure my sense of smell has become heightened or I just notice more.

I'm going to keep mostly bootcamp I think, may introduced some berries with my yogurt. Don't want to upset the delicate tiptoeing that my body seems to be doing this time around.
The genius idea of hot water with lemon slice may help get the water down too, thanks BIWI

Grah0SoontobeaFitty · 29/10/2018 14:07

@Livinglavidal0ca from the the last Thread great week 1, but don't drop off reading and contributing to the thread.

Chat will carry on after 10 weeks and seeing the comments and help from people a couple of weeks ahead of you could help prepare you for the stall and handle LCHF life's problems.

Having a slow start 1lb again on Weigh-in day seen lower and higher during the week but sticking firm.

Found Filipino Chicharon -- Pork scratchings, only ones like the good UK ones. ( in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada) but they contain MSG are they allowed???

Tried to make my own with side ribs worked great but 3lb of pre-cooked ribs gone in 1 evening. Pressure cooked for 35 minutes, oven baked for 45 minutes at 425f to crisp up.

Well KOKO -- week 1 of 8 weeks stay focus and get those measurements and weights recorded. In 6 weeks you'll be talking about the differences in amazed tones.

Justmuddlingalong · 29/10/2018 14:26

Apparently "I'm not so fat." This gem of a compliment came from my mother this morning. I'm 9.6 stone. 🙄

bibliomania · 29/10/2018 14:40

My name seemed to have disappeared from the spreadsheet, but I re-entered him, hopefully against the right weights. Although I wouldn't mind distancing myself from it, as it was a slight rise this week. Went to a wine-tasting on Sat (with cheese and crackers) and discovered Aldi are restocking their Florentines in advance of Christmas. On the bright side, after consuming a box -or two- I concluded that I might actually have lost my taste for them and won't buy them again. So it's a win, if you squint very carefully.

Ciarabean · 29/10/2018 15:42

No loss but belt needed tightening one notch this morning which made my day. I’m glad I swerved the treat table at work (hard though it is!) Staying on Bootcamp for another week and KOKO. Good luck all!

LeavingTheSandBehind · 29/10/2018 16:06

No loss at all for me so far and I am feeling very run down & tired. Going to have an early night tonight and try again tomorrow.

Tiredofit · 29/10/2018 16:26

Thank you BIWI I’ve been out and bought a lemon (and a little packet of pepperoni strips). I will give the hot water and lemon a go. I’m in the Scottish Highlands and it was pretty frosty this morning. The sun did come out but it really hasn’t warmed up all day. roll on summer!

abbey44 · 29/10/2018 16:45

Oh, shoot me now - that 3lbs is sticking with me. No BC lite for me then. I've just booked my tickets to go to Sierra Leone for Christmas with my son, who works there, so that gives me even more reason to want this to work. I looked in my diary for this time last year and I'm not doing anything much different, but getting totally different results. No logic at all...! Hey ho.

Doilooklikeatourist · 29/10/2018 16:58

Omg , how delicious are Pork scratching !
A pack of snaffling pig with my low carb veg soup for lunch was a real treat

prettybird · 29/10/2018 17:01

11st 6lb - so nearly back to where I got to at the end of the last Boot Camp Smile

3.5 stone since I started in May 2017 HaloGrin

Only half a stone to go to my minimum 1st objective for Christmas and 11lb to go to my desired slightly unrealistic objective Grin I'd like at least to get into a normal BMI - which means only 8 more lb. Grin That at least should be achievable Smile

Grah0SoontobeaFitty · 29/10/2018 17:56

@prettybird KOKO those 8lb are going to be the most stubborn 8 of the whole lost, with bounces up and down like a yoyo.

So don't panic or get disheartened you'll probably end up floating between 10st 7lb and 11st 7lb due to water retention until the body gives up on all the Fat cells, and whoosees down to a more stable body composition of muscle and fat cells. Just keep measuring and feeling great.
You've done fantastic with your life choice changes. Wishes I could lay off the beer as it puts pounds on in such a few days. Then takes months to lose but feels so good after a long ride in the summer months.

MumOfAPickle · 29/10/2018 19:20

Evening all! Had a very busy week last week but managed to stay on track for the most part. Am determined to record food and post more on the thread this week as I know it keeps me more accountable.
I forgot to weigh this morning so I’ll add my weight tomorrow.

Lasagne recipe looks good, looking forward to trying that.
Food today:
B: 2x boiled eggs
L: chicken thighs with salad and pesto mayo
D: beef casserole with broccoli and celeriac dauphinois
S: had some pate with spinach while I was waiting for my chicken to cook for lunch! Will probs have some natural yog later and may have a few chopped hazelnuts in it.

Well done all for carrying on with or without losses.

millionaireshortie · 29/10/2018 19:30

Well done everyone! I've had a couple of slips over the weekend so need to try much harder this week.

CodLiverOil556 · 29/10/2018 19:40

Some great losses this week everyone...I lost 3.2lbs which takes me to 9.8lbs over the 2 weeks

Fartoomuchcakeandwine · 29/10/2018 19:58

I've lost some weight! Woo hoo. I'm a week behind everyone though. Therefore clearly sticking to boot camp!

starsky22 · 29/10/2018 21:03

Leavingthesandbehind have you been following the bootcamp rules? If you have and haven't lost anything, then perhaps post a couple of days of meals so we can see if there are any changes you can make to help.

Wildheartsease Well done for getting straight back to it the next day, your post reminded me of a couple of very good pieces of advice given by clever bootcampers that have stuck with me:

  • if food is not the problem then food is not the solution, and
  • time will pass whether you follow this woe or not, you can continue with your old way of eating and be the same weight or perhaps even more in 3 months/6 months/a years time or you can keep going with low carb and slowly but surely you will lose the weight, as many of the low carbers on this thread have found! So don't be disheartened if you have a way to go, just koko and you'll get there.

Just a couple of things to think about next time anyone is thinking about emotionally eating, I know we all have those moments.
