Week 3 - Low Carb Bootcamp - the going starts to get tough now!

Morning all.

Despite my intentions, I still woke up early this morning. However, it was an hour or so later than usual, so that's an extra hour!

Anyway, here's the spreadsheet for you to record the results of last week

I hope the results are good!

Just remember that weeks 3 and 4 are notorious for little/no weight loss!

You have a choice to make now. You can either stick to Bootcamp, if it suits you, or you can move on to Bootcamp Light, which means you can re-introduce some fruit (berries) and some nuts/seeds as well as alcohol - all in moderation.

However, given the issue with weeks 3 & 4, you might decide you want to stay on Bootcamp. That in itself is no guarantee that you will lose, but at least you know you're being as strict as you can be!

Some people choose a hybrid, which is Bootcamp Light at the weekend, but stay on Bootcamp during the week.

Whatever you choose, just be aware that from here on, we're looking to see a loss of around 1-2lbs per week. Which is a good and healthy loss!

Here's to a good week Flowers

At the end of the day, the kleenprep is nec whether you fast or not though - it essentially needs to ‘wash’ the bowel walls clean. I think they don’t want people arriving with their electrolytes messed up, their blood sugar in their boots, and given no one on this study will be ill, they are acknowledging they will want to stay functional beforehand.

prettybird · 02/11/2018 22:06

Could you have custard made with erithrytol? Or baked into a creme brûlée as in Tom Kerridge's recipe?

I know it's got the sweetness you're trying to avoid sweetness - but at least it's still low carb.

Littleorangetree · 02/11/2018 22:39

Spiderkitty they've given us a set menu and it's pretty carb heavy. I'm thinking of just having a coffee with cream instead of the pudding (sticky ginger pudding with ice cream!). The good thing is that we have to put in what we want in advance, so I'm less likely to cave in after a glass or 2 of wine. It's tricky because I go out so rarely it seems a shame to not enjoy it to the full, but I know I would regret it afterwards and that it's not really worth it.

WheelyWheelySpookilicousCotee · 03/11/2018 08:37

I'm in a pair of jeans I hadn't wore for 3-4 years and and old checked flannel shirt...again hadn't wore it for a number of years

Scales have nudged down a smudge again. Starting to feel like the old me again

The jeans are a little tight around the crotch😁 but I'm in them!!!!!

Need to catch up with the thread...I just had to tell you all😃

hope everyone's ok! And will catch up later

oopsadaisy77 · 03/11/2018 08:57

Thank you for the responses. Loving the cocoa butter chocolate and creme brûlée sounds amazeballs. I think do need to start eating to live... I've always struggled with low mood in the morning and it's an excuse to have some skimmed milk cappuccinos with something nice. I wondered maybe very very high cocoa chocolate or the pure heavenly sounds gt. Maybe not with the rules though.

I like the froth idea on a coffee - I noticed there was a squirt cream in m and s without sugar (think it was m and s..). I am trying to get my head round cream and weight loss the two don't add up in my head.

They key for me with this diet is try and stop my overeating that when you have one and then want another - and this is hugely challenging in the luteal (before the dreaded time of the month).

oopsadaisy77 · 03/11/2018 09:21

Can we really have as many eggs as possible? I’m loving omelettes but the two egg omelette doesn’t quite “crack it” for lunch. I added some kale and olive oil.

oopsadaisy77 · 03/11/2018 09:21

Wheels wheels that’s amazing well done 👍

Twinplusone · 03/11/2018 09:21

Am I too late to join in?

Tips for getting started, I’m a cereal Queen, so easy alternatives and some ideas for lunch for work.

Sorry posting then running as I’m off to the hairdressers!! Catch up later

Littleorangetree · 03/11/2018 10:21

That's great WheelyWheelySpookilicousCotee! I'm hoping to be able to fit into some of my old jeas soon, though I have a bit to go yet. My current jeans are all getting a bit old and tatty and I'd like to wear my nice smaller jeans instead of buying new ones!

reddA · 03/11/2018 12:39

Hi all, hope everyone is doing well, just a quick hello as I have visitors this weekend so it's a little hectic, keeping on the straight and narrow, no huge loss or gain, just hovering around the stone mark - why do scales tend to stick to that?? just go under it ffs! Angry

Twinplusone, read through the threads there are tons of ideas also pinned recipe threads. I am reading past bootcamp threads which are really useful for ideas and answers to other peoples problems that we may also face. Have a read while your having your hair done Smile

StuntNun · 03/11/2018 13:09

Oopsa the research shows that 12 eggs per week is perfectly fine healthwise so crack on with the three or four-egg omelettes! Did you see what I did there?

For the colonoscopy prep Cherries I would go with chicken, white rice and bone broth/stock and skip anything wheat-based or sugary. It might be worth doing a bit of online research on low carb/paleo approaches as there may be other foods you can include, especially fats such as butter, that aren't on the list you were given because they are deemed unhealthy by conventional nutritional wisdom. You might find it easier if you incorporate a long fast, e.g. 18 or 24-hours, in the prep so as to minimise the amount of carbs you have to eat.

Rshard · 03/11/2018 13:37

Catching up on the thread, lovely to hear about nsv’s and all the positivity.

Wanted to thank the person who posted about the tuna infusions - added a couple to my shop and had one for lunch, really 😋

MumOfAPickle · 03/11/2018 13:39

Morning all, just checking in with yesterday’s food:
B: none
L: out, went to a Japanese place and had the chicken teriyaki but no rice or noodles, stuck to water.
D: pork medallions with broccoli and green beans and a cheddar and mustard sauce

Today:
B: none again
L: pesto, chicken and cheese on flax bread with salad
D: we’re off to the fireworks tonight but I’ve persuaded DH to eat here before we go so I’m going to do a chicken and sausage bake with broccoli. Hopefully I’ll be full enough to not be tempted by the stalls later.

Have great weekends everyone!

ilovecherries · 03/11/2018 15:09

We went out for breakfast today. I had smooshed avocado with two poached eggs, scattered with fried chorizo, chillis and crumbled feta. Was very lovely but I will never make an instagrammer as I eaten it before I realised I hadn’t taken a photo. Grin

Doilooklikeatourist · 03/11/2018 15:37

Have had a good week I think , tried frozen cauliflower rice last night , was very nice and it has certainly sped through me 🤢
Challenging day tomorrow, out for shopping , lunch and a matinee performance of Wicked
Will do my best.

dotheshakeandvac · 03/11/2018 16:36

Hi all. Just checking in.

I feel like I'm really taking to this woe. Unlike previous attempts at weight loss, I'm not obsessing over food, which I think is because I'm just not hungry - and I know if I am I can eat real and tasty food! Hoping this can mean a real lifestyle change for me rather than the short lived efforts I've made on other 'diets'.

I am really pleased with weight loss so far (I have a lot to lose!), but am amazed at the other changes. I haven't slept so well or had as much energy for years.

Thank you all so much - esp biwi for the occasional nudge back into line.

ilovecherries the main no no for colonoscopy is fibre. Eggs/cream/white meat etc are all fine. Maybe omelettes and strained cream soups would help? Will try to add a link https://wa.kaiserpermanente.org/html/public/specialties/gastroenterology/colon-diet but no idea how to make it clicky - sorry

Youcantscaremeihavechildren · 03/11/2018 17:46

Hello all, just checking in while I have a low carb lasagne in the oven, hoping I can sneak it past the kids!
I haven't been eating breakfast as I'm just not hungry, I'm only on week 2, that's OK though I think? I've had creamy coffee instead.
L. Omelette
D. Lasagne, made with courgettes and thanks whoever posted about the cream white sauce, it's tasty and dead quick.
Just did my waist measurement and really pleased it's gone down a bit, I haven't run in 2 weeks but once I start again hopefully that'll kick start some more loss. Scales went down another lb today but we shall see what Monday holds. I do seem to be loosing off my boobs a lot though, maybe just inevitable, I'd guess they're mostly fat!?

BIWI · 03/11/2018 18:03

@Youcantscaremeihavechildren If you're still on week 2 then you should be eating something for breakfast. Creamy coffee doesn't have any real nutrition in it.

I'm also a bit concerned about the lack of veg/salad in your menu!

tootstastic · 03/11/2018 19:37

I'm away for the weekend and managing to stay on plan. I've managed all the eating out, but it has been really challenging and I've felt awkward at times. Like earlier, everyone else fancied a Japanese noodle bar for lunch and I couldn't see anything on the menu I could have. My solution was to nip off for a bit on my own to find somewhere for a low carb lunch. In desperation, I ended up at an Ed's Diner with a bunless burger and salad and a sparkling water. The steak restaurant's menu for tonight is a bit easier to navigate.

This weekend has really reinforced that I have had enough of being fat and just have to nail it this time around. I've been in some lovely shops today and just want to be slim enough to buy all the gorgeous clothes I've seen. Instead, I've done more window shopping than anything else and had some awful unintentional glances at mirrored walls and cringed at my size and shape.

The good news is that the scales are moving downwards again though and looks like I've lost 11.5lbs since bootcamp began. That's equivalent to over 5 bags of sugar! Mentally picturing that just flabbergasts me and gives me hope.

Hope you're all being good. Have a great weekend everyone!

Tiredofit · 03/11/2018 19:55

Chinese - too late now because I’ve eaten it but what should I have chosen? I had 3 ribs, no sauce and fried mushrooms. It was the best I could think of quickly. I had Greek yogurt and a creamy coffee for breakfast and no lunch.

Nice to see results Wheely. I have a pair of Per Una jeans I bought in a charity shop 6ish years ago when they were about a stone away from fitting me. Needless to say, they are now about 3 stone away! I have loads of too small clothes to shrink in to.

tootstastic · 03/11/2018 20:01

@Tiredofit sounds like you did well with the Chinese when on the spot. I'd also be interested to hear of any Chinese low-carb options. I'm with you on the wardrobe full of clothes I can't wear...frustrating, isn't it?!

Tiredofit · 03/11/2018 21:09

@tootstatic I could get the clothes that currently fit me into one drawer and nothing looks nice on. I sometimes get all the too small stuff out (about 4 drawers worth) and admire the great outfits I could be wearing. Half of it is brand new! You would think that would be enough to make me koko! I will do it this time.

tootstastic · 03/11/2018 21:12

Totally with you @Tiredofit I'm ashamed at the amount of stuff I have still with tags on years later. Let's do this!

m0therofdragons · 04/11/2018 00:39

Hi all, joining late as back from holiday and bigger than ever! It starts tonight. I did well last time because of this group but failed miserably over the summer. Here is to my week one

m0therofdragons · 04/11/2018 00:41

Oh and I'm 11st 10lbs and want to be 10st 3lb but first step is to get under 11st.
