Week 3 - Low Carb Bootcamp - the going starts to get tough now!

Morning all.

Despite my intentions, I still woke up early this morning. However, it was an hour or so later than usual, so that's an extra hour!

Anyway, here's the spreadsheet for you to record the results of last week

I hope the results are good!

Just remember that weeks 3 and 4 are notorious for little/no weight loss!

You have a choice to make now. You can either stick to Bootcamp, if it suits you, or you can move on to Bootcamp Light, which means you can re-introduce some fruit (berries) and some nuts/seeds as well as alcohol - all in moderation.

However, given the issue with weeks 3 & 4, you might decide you want to stay on Bootcamp. That in itself is no guarantee that you will lose, but at least you know you're being as strict as you can be!

Some people choose a hybrid, which is Bootcamp Light at the weekend, but stay on Bootcamp during the week.

Whatever you choose, just be aware that from here on, we're looking to see a loss of around 1-2lbs per week. Which is a good and healthy loss!

Here's to a good week Flowers

Thank-you Starsky22 - this is helpful!

WheelyWheelySpookilicousCotee · 30/10/2018 06:07

Felt a bit fed up yesterday and had a couple of slips in the shape of Yorkshire puddings.

Back on it today. I think I know where I'm going wrong....chatted with colleagues and kids yesterday.....

I've been drinking more coffee and creams than I thought😁

And evening meals going back for 2nds and then picking from the leftovers before washing up.

The lads said they're scared for their lives(little sods😂) when I start on the celery. I can demolish a bunch like its a chocolate bar or packet of crisps

I have felt hungrier recently. Thinking it might be because I'm thirsty and choosing food or a cup of coffee instead. My water intake did go down dramatically.

Plan: before I snack, go back for 2nds 😁 I have another coffee drink a minimum of half my water bottle

WheelyWheelySpookilicousCotee · 30/10/2018 06:35

Starsky love those words of wisdom, thank you

Well done Fartoon, Kermit and prettybird!

Doilook how did you make your veg soup? Love the sound of pork scratchings alongside soup. I've not tried soup on this woe because it doesn't seem right without bread but I'll definately eat it with pork scratchings.

Hope your feeling better leavingthesand! And your mother justmuddling sounds like my friend with a compliment like that😂** Where do they get the nerve lol

StuntNun · 30/10/2018 06:48

Abbey they call that the golden shot. Low carb often seems to work best the first time round with weight loss being slower on subsequent attempts.

BIWI · 30/10/2018 06:48

@LeavingTheSandBehind Sorry you're feeling down and tired Flowers

Why don't you list out for me what you've been eating and drinking over the last couple of days, and let me see if there's anything obvious.

First thoughts are that you

a) might be suffering from carb flu (you should be feeling much more energetic by now)
b) you might not be eating enough, generally - this isn't a way of eating that's about deprivation, but I find that it's very common that people revert to 'conventional' ways to diet, and start restricting food when there's no need
c) you might not be getting enough fat

@WheelyWheelySpookilicousCotee You would do well to heed @starsky22's words of wisdom. Why did you jump into the Yorkshire puddings?! They might have made you feel better in the very short term, but ultimately all you're doing is sabotaging yourself.

If you're hungrier, then this is a sure sign that you're not eating enough fat - and certainly not drinking enough water. Go back to Bootcamp rules and read them really carefully!

@millionaireshortie - I'll say the same to you - why did you do that? Did someone push you into slipping or did you do it all by yourself?!

For everyone

THIS IS NOT A FORGIVING WAY OF EATING. CHEATING IS SERIOUS SELF-SABOTAGE!

It's not like a low calorie diet, where you can compensate at one meal for poor choices at another. Every time you eat too many carbs you risk not only stopping any weight loss, but also gaining weight

Seriously. We've only just started week 3. Stop with the cheating!

I’m a daily weigher and after 2 weeks non movement the scales have gone down again today. So happy! Very glad I stuck with it, this week is going to be a good one! 😁

StAlphonzospancakebreakfast · 30/10/2018 07:17

(That was supposed to be a happy face emoji!)

Doilooklikeatourist · 30/10/2018 08:19

@Wheeley ,
Veg soup
I always start with 1 onion, 2 carrots and a stick or 2 of celery , brown them in sunflower oil

Add in veg of choice ( I’m currently using celeriac , peeled courgettes, cauli and swede ) and some hot water

Add salt and pepper , some dried herbs and a veg stock cube and sometimes a tin of tomatoes

Let it simmer away for an hour or so , then I use a stick blender to whizz it up

I realise some of the veg aren’t low carb , but this makes a lot more than one portion , so hopefully it balances out

I tend to keep it thick once whizzed , as it talked less room to store it in the fridge , then add some milk to make it the right consistency when you heat it up

abbey44 · 30/10/2018 08:28

@StuntNun - thanks, that's depressing, but would explain it Grin Is there anything I can do to sort of gee it up a bit, other than koko? I'm sticking to the rules (with gritted teeth) and keeping up the walking, my blood sugars are pretty level and within the target range, and my insulin dosage has decreased a bit, so I'm ok with that side of it, but is it just a case of being patient...?

BIWI · 30/10/2018 08:34

@abbey44

List out what you've been eating and drinking over the last few days. It's possible that we might identify something that will help.

But yes, it's always a case of KOKO! As long as you're KOKOing with the right foods/drink of course Smile

Thanks for the big stick Biwi I genuinely needed that lol😘 1.5L of water down already

Thats great stalphonzo! And thanks for the recipe Doilooklike....ill be cooking it up this this weekend 😋

Nipped into Tesco but they had no pork scratchings! I haven't seen them in shops for ages...is it an order online thing or Is there anywhere more likely sell them than others?

Has anyone tried celeriac as a substitute for Potatoe rosti's?

Doilooklikeatourist · 30/10/2018 08:54

I bought my pork scratchings in Tesco !
Can’t remember, I think they were in the crisps , nuts aisle , but hanging on a display rather then on a shelf ( realises you’re probably not shopping in my local Tesco 😀)

jaxhwc · 30/10/2018 09:42

I buy mine in home bargains, they're really good, quite crisp and puffy, not too oily

FuriousFifties · 30/10/2018 09:45

Definition of a happy me is cauliflower cheese for breakfast with a girt dollop of mayo. So comforting on such a frosty morning.

Youcantscaremeihavechildren · 30/10/2018 09:51

Has anyone seen the low carb thread in active atm? It's kicking off a wee bit!

prettybird · 30/10/2018 09:54

Wheely - yes, I've done celeriac rösti Smile. It was a wee while ago now; I think I parboiled and then grated before squeezing out and forming into wee individually röstis with melted butter. Can't remember if I fried or baked them (they were for a dinner party, so may had baked them to have less needing done at the end).

Littleorangetree · 30/10/2018 09:58

Morning all! Great to read about how everyone is getting on. I'm just KOKO at the moment and managing to stick to the plan 9though I definitely need to up my water).
I've just had to order pork scratchings online because I can't find any here for love nor money!

My weight is slowly heading in a downwards direction (the graph I've made has been quite motivating for me ebcause if I change the axis it looks like I've lost loads Grin !)

prettybird · 30/10/2018 10:59

Youcantscream - I started reading it, was even going to post YABU - I'm no longer "wearing 3.5 stone of fat" thanks to HFLC and then stopped reading it when I reminded myself, Life's. Too. Short. Grin

I know it works - that's what matters.

I'll even explain how and why it works to those who are genuinely interested. But I'm not going to waste my effort on those who're not interested. Grin

oopsadaisy77 · 30/10/2018 11:02

I was hoping to join if that’s ok... although just starting. My reasoning (was directed here by other kind posters), was mainly I have returned to overeating recently and always carbs (prob mood related). I just want to break that cycle and find a permanent way to live with satiety. I’ve also been advised low carb from gynaecologist which I dismissed a little intitially. So interested to hear if others have combated hormonal issues with low carb. Ok I’ll await for my acceptance or dismissal before I basically repeat my personal diary Ona. Public forum!

prettybird · 30/10/2018 12:01

You're most welcome here Flowers (And glad you found it from the other thread Grin)

Lots of people have found that this WoE helps with hormone issues. I can't comment per se as I am now post menopausal but when I first started doing this years ago, I did have a few extra periods. I believe that was to do with becoming ketogenically adapted and the fat releasing oestrogen into the blood steam.

I have found that if I fall off the wagon, getting back on really helps my mood Smile so why do I fall off the wagon? Confused

BIWI · 30/10/2018 12:14

You're very welcome @oopsadaisy77! Flowers

Hi. My weight has recorded as 1lb on but really it was 4oz on - but one rounded down the other up! I have a chesty cold which is making me miserable and I'm finding it hard to Koko - had a brandy last night as an attempted pick me up, and a couple of tangerines over the past 48 hours for the vitamin c. I will get back on it once I'm feeling better. The weight on was due to half term - not drinking enough and a piece of cake (which I didn't even enjoy).

Oopsa I find I get less hormonal breast tenderness with this woe for sure, and fewer night sweats (peremenopausal!)

boldlygoingsomewhere · 30/10/2018 12:24

oopsadaisy, I use this way of eating to help with my PCOS symptoms. I find it helps make my periods more regular and reduces PMS symptoms.

prettybird · 30/10/2018 12:47

In other good news, I've found that I'm snacking less Smile

I know the Rules are only to eat when hungry but I find it takes me c2 weeks to get over the psychological need to snack. It's a habit that needs to be broken and I'm not really hungry whatever my brain might be trying to tell me Wink

After 2 weeks, I'm more able to listen to my stomach, which is much more honest about whether it not am truly hungry Grin - which, in this WoE, is almost never Smile

StuntNun · 30/10/2018 13:59

Oopsa you may find that hormonal issues get worse before they get better on low carb. When we start burning fat then oestrogen released from fat cells can cause problems such as periods restarting after menopause, mid-cycle bleeding, and breakthrough bleeding on the coil. It settles down again after a couple of cycles and you can reasonably expect to see a big improvement in any hormonal issues. Before I went low carb I had terrible PMT, carb cravings, and would need to take painkillers for the first three days of my period. Now I get no PMT, no cravings, and no pain. Honestly, in my case it's worth eating low carb for these benefits alone, never mind weight loss.
