What do you think of the Iris and Peter Robinson Affair

tell me about them? I don't know much

story

clicky for his statement

I don't know, I find him a bit odd. I can't imagine she is/was that happy in the relationship if she had an affair. I wonder if her affair was all her fault? He doesn't sound like he's forgiven her in his statement.

Is it all such a big deal because of their moral views?

Someone has just tweeted that she is receiving acute psychiatric (sp) care in Belfast at the minute.

PlumBumMum · 10/01/2010 23:20

Ashbrook didn't know it was reported,
but I bet dh when it all came out that she had an affair with the dad, hmm, papers say today a shopkeeper who is now deceased, hmmmm

moondog · 11/01/2010 00:02

Her statement
To (mis)quote Mandy Rice-Davies, well she would say that, wouldn't she?

mathanxiety · 11/01/2010 01:16

Funny, her statement says those she loved the most were her 'children and friends' -- no mention of her hubby among the chosen few.

Bear - That link is marvellous!

The whole story is schadenfreudlicious.

paulaplumpbottom · 11/01/2010 11:04

My mental illness made me do it. It just seems convienant to me

Tee2072 · 11/01/2010 18:26

And Peter just stepped down for 6 weeks...

bubble2bubble · 11/01/2010 19:09

Does that mean he's going out to join her in Chamonix?

bubble2bubble · 11/01/2010 19:09

Never let it be said that government should get in the way of some good skiing

harimosmummy · 11/01/2010 19:16

You know, NEVER was the phrase:

There, but for the grace of God, go I.

More relevant than it is in this particular story.

An important lesson to be learned I think.

MavisEnderby · 11/01/2010 19:17

Sorry to crash your convo but just thought you might all like the joke dps mate texted him

"What is the difference between Iris Robinson and Ikea?"

"Not much, one dodgy screw and the whole cabinet falls apart"

MrsBlackbeard · 11/01/2010 19:52

Heard that one at work on Sat Mavis

Harriedandflustered · 12/01/2010 00:47

It's funny but when Peter Robinson talks about Iris Robinson's mental illness (query is this the first time that skiing has been prescribed as a therapeutic release for mental illness and should it be available on the nhs?) I was reminded of Ernest Saunders.

For you young uns out there, Ernest is the first person in history to have recovered from Alzheimers. story here

I don't know why Ernest Saunders came to mind, but he just did ....

mathanxiety · 12/01/2010 03:37

ROFL MrsBlackbeard.

seeker · 12/01/2010 06:13

Yet another example of the effortlessly superior moral compass of Christians......

Tee2072 · 12/01/2010 09:19

The cool thing is that I know MP Arlene Foster, who has taken over as First Minister at the moment. We're not best friends or anything, but she is a good friend of our CEO so I've chatted to her. Very nice, very smart woman. I hope she gets to keep the job, because I am very doubtful Peter will be back in 6 weeks.

hanvic · 17/01/2010 12:36

when i saw the tv prog on iris and peter robinson i took a great satisfaction in her fall and laughed heartily at the spoof mrs robinson song going the rounds.

and then i thought of bill clinton and other male politicians who had had sex with much younger women, some still around, JFK dead of course and how our responses differ according to the gender of the perpetrator.

thoughts of jane eyre's predecessor and other 'naughty' wives where the mental health card had been pulled and they had been inprisoned and the key thrown away.

i do wish iris had had the strength to face them all and retire publicly. she always seems to have lived a lie though never being her true self and manufacturing her identity via her husband and paying the price for that as she approached her older years. there is always a day of reckoning. her political career is over and perhaps in the future she may do a profumo and devote herself to good works.

hopefully the debate will continue on the financial irregularities of the both of them and their life living high on the hog at tax payer's expense.

TinyPawz · 17/01/2010 16:11

Hanvic, I don't think the ensuing craziness is all related to the affair. It is more to do with the shady dealings and trying to cover it up.

hanvic · 17/01/2010 18:13

hi tinypawz neither do i think her behaviour is all due to the affair. she had been living a lie for years and her self doubt must have been enormous. however as i said for the emphasis to be on both their culpabilities for their financial irregularities.
