"We will fight to the end for Archie's right to live."

It's this sentence she keeps repeating that to me says so much without saying a lot.

He - for whatever reason and deliberately or not - placed himself in this situation though his actions.

She hasn't ever been able to process or even accept that. She wants to truly believe he never intended to end his life by what he did. And I honestly get that and we don't know and will never know if he did or not.

It's always a knife edge discussion the right to live vs the right to die and we have laws against assisting death in this country which makes that fine line tighter.

But what she cannot see, or accept or process here is that he can't live without the machines. That he can't live forever with them.

There does need to be laws surrounding how public people can be when they are clearly as confused and unable to process information that Ms Dance and very clearly so emotionally distressed they will say whatever and we can't even guarantee they are aware of everything they are saying.

I do wish the media would stop referring to his fight for life, he's brain dead. I also wish they'd stop using that photo - show him as he is now, not plastering all over the media a picture of what he looked like before. It's all very very misleading.

Thank you for the new thread. I don't think any case in the news has ever affected me as much as this one. I hope Archie is at peace even though this is all going on around him.

Agreed its awful!!

HappyHamsters · 04/08/2022 11:20

If its true that she has published the names of his doctors and put their safety at risk then her lawyers have a lot to answer for, how could they let that happen. Those doctors save thousands of lives, in other circumstances many might think she should be removed from the hospital.

@HappyHamsters I believe she posted a photo on Facebook of a letter sent to her by the hospital last week and didn't remove the two doctors' names at the bottom.

DonateBloodNCheckSmokeAlarms · 04/08/2022 11:23

The Daily Mail are using headlines like "Archie's Fight for Life Goes On".
Totally misleading.

LovinglifeAF · 04/08/2022 11:24

This is a disgusting comment and it should not be allowed to be published on this website.

if you think it breaks talk guidelines, report it. Otherwise, you do not get to police what people can and can’t say.

WhatNoRaisins · 04/08/2022 11:24

It really doesn't seem right that mainstream media are using such factually inaccurate wording like "fight for life"

MsBallen · 04/08/2022 11:26

Life support ongoing until courts decide if he should be moved to a hospice. According to the family spokesperson a hospice has volunteered to take him which doesn't mean a lot if hospital staff physically can't move him there.

UnicornIceCream · 04/08/2022 11:27

I have read how she would like him to go to a hospice maybe she is starting to accept the inevitable now I hope they can facilitate her wishes for end of life care at a hospice somehow

Cantanka · 04/08/2022 11:28

Is there any legal way to stop this new request going through all the courts stages again, and then another request, and then another? I KNOW how important it is to be able to appeal, but how does anything therefore ever come to a legal end point?

@MaggieFS you asked this on the last thread, and there is the theoretical possibility that a court can make an order preventing further applications without the permission of the court. If permission were refused then that would prevent the delays caused by the hearing, judgment and appeal(s). However I imagine the court would be very very reluctant to issue such an order in a case such as this, even though I totally agree it is frustrating that every application has to go through the whole process, given how delay is inimical to Archie’s interests.

Thank you for the new thread. I can’t seem to turn away from this story although it’s so upsetting.

I’m trying to maintain a bit of intellectual distance from it purely to get my head around the bare facts of what’s happening each day, but every so often the emotional weight of it punches through. That poor, poor child.

Flowers to anyone more personally affected by the story

OpinionsUnseen · 04/08/2022 11:30

I think it’s time to start mass complaining to ofcom etc re the media’s involvement in this case.

At this point they need to stop interviewing holly. Her platform needs to be removed from her. It’s sad but it’s not ok for her to be given a platform to conduct herself on in such a way as to accuse medical staff of murder and to make the kinds of allegations she has.

That’s what the courts are for. She’s clearly made extensive use of them in the past, if she wants to bring legal action for murder then she needs to raise the funds to be able to do so. But you wouldn’t allow anyone to randomly accuse someone of murder on national television and this is no different, how emotive the subject is is academic.

Sadless · 04/08/2022 11:31

Think the media is using the fighting for life to keep parents on side for the interviews. If they put the true mothers abusing child in hospital then they won't do interviews. Not saying she's abusing him or has but if but it's getting like that the way this is going on. Its just a body now and she needs to let go.

I believe there's guilt for something maybe one day it will come out what happened that day.
But I do feel sorry for her.

Sal

But it won't be end of care care as such.

He'll be transferred and have his infusions ceased and the life support removed.

His life will end immediately. He's barely clinging onto it whilst it's in place. He'll very likely die on transit.

He's been receiving end of life care for 4 months. Most of which it's been accepted by consultants that he is all but dead in the descriptive sense of the term. His brain doesn't function. It's necrosing and dripping into his spine.

The media are being (imo deliberately) misleading stating it's a fight for life. He doesn't have the brain function to fight for it. Medicine is doing all his bodily functions for him.

I feel for Ms dance. She is being employed horrifically whilst in absolute despair. It shouldn't be allowed.

I'm feeling that too.

I'm torn between my absolute sympathy for Ms dance and my wanting this little boy to be allowed some dignity and peace.

Why do you think her legal team have to answer for this? It's her act- not theirs.

Iamdonewiththis · 04/08/2022 11:34

The media are stirring it up with a 'fight for life goes on' type headlines. I feel for the woman but she isn't too clever with some of the comments she makes it's obvious she doesn't seem to understand that he is dead and his body is decaying around him, the machines are keeping his body ticking over but not alive.

It's sad and the lawyers are milking it as they always appear to do. The press are vultures and hangers on think that an 'army' of clueless, non medically trained people know better.

Stop the circus know and think of the boy.

RightsHoardingRaptor · 04/08/2022 11:34

Just saw an interview with an expert saying even moving him within his bed is risky, the ambulance ride alone may kill him. Moving him will ensure he deteriorates even faster, that is a guarantee. Hospices aren't set up with ventilators. People in his condition aren't generally moved as it is not a natural decline with palliative care, it is a removal of machines keeping him alive. So awful.
