Sorry to the ongoing couch to 5k thread but I am looking for others just starting out (and it looks like there might be quite a few of us on popsycal's thread).

So...anyone starting week 1 this week?

I am hoping to start week 2 tonight. Was actually going to start it last night as going away next weekend but was crippled with D&V (TMI sorry).
On the positive side it seems to be thawing now - hope it doesn't ice over!

wuglet · 11/01/2010 21:09

Did it!
Was still a bit snowy out but once I was on the main roads I did actually run on pavement !
More manageable then I thought - glad you only have to run 6 times. Also I have to admit that despite what Raahbart says I could not carry on a normal conversation whilst running.

Found this thread again.

Not very sucrssful at the moment as we still hv loads of snow. Supposed to thaw at the weekend so will get off the crosstrainer and het running outside. My new sports bra arrived today, so that will help.

Decided to spend my birthday money on new trainers (if the running website ever get back to me about posting the trainers.)

MmeLindt · 12/01/2010 22:03

How is everyone else doing?

Vacheblue
your name made me smile as my mum
is a big fan of the blue cow

AitchTwoOhOneOh · 12/01/2010 22:12

oh GOD i should start this again but there is still so much ice about. next week...

squashedfrogs · 12/01/2010 22:34

I've been out for the third time tonight, it's getting easier each time which is giving me hope! Will def have to buy myself a sports bra though, my normal ones just aren't up to the job.

vachebleu · 12/01/2010 22:43

Mme Lindt, I Love blue cow! On the other hand I'm not so keen on dieting and exercise! I struggled yesterday with my first session, I don't know why, v annoying. Maybe I'm rustier than I thought. 2nd session tomorrow, hopefully it will be better!

Rollergirl1 · 12/01/2010 22:45

Hey guys, I am going to join you if I may. Two of my BIL's are doing The Great North Run this year and although not sure about that just yet I def want to increase my fitness with some running.

Going to a specialist running shop to sort out my running shoes and then I'm ready as soon as the pavements have thawed. Hoping to start by next week at the latest.

Have all that have started got the correct shoes and stuff? I was thinking of using the Bupa Beginner to 5k program. Is anyone else using?

AitchTwoOhOneOh · 12/01/2010 22:47

i'll be using that, roller, cos i haaaaate the music on the couch to fivek.

LittlePushka · 13/01/2010 00:55

Please help...where can I get details on the couch to 5k and the Bupa Beginner to 5K?

MmeLindt · 13/01/2010 06:03

LittleP
Popsy linked to the bupa plan earlier in the thread.

I am using that rather than the Robert podcast as I can listen to my own music. I am using this app for iPhone Runkeeper

HerMomminess · 13/01/2010 10:18

Can I join?

Just been lamenting all the excuses for not going to gym. Been trying to loose post pg weight. Need about 2 stone to go. DD is 5mo. Used to run/cycle/swim/ hill walk. All feels v distant.

Plus the ol pelvic floor didn' t quite cope with running .Hopefully better now.

mrsbaldwin · 13/01/2010 14:42

Can I join too?

The extra 20lb post pg weight is really starting to p* me off now.

Until about halfway through pregnancy I was really fit. I used to run to work 3 days a week.

Now I am a blob.

So ... I got this book I had before called Running for Women out last night. And thought I would look on MN today to see if anyone else was doing anything.

[Goes off to look up Robert etc]

wuglet · 13/01/2010 18:41

Woo hoo loads of new people.
I did my run this morning at 6am because I am going out tonight.

My first run all on pavement....and I have lost the cushiony impact of the snow. So will be going out to buy running shoes tomorrow as well.

Here is the cough to 5k podcast - I agree the music is fairly cack but I really need someone in my ear telling me what to do.

And squashed frogs I highly commend this sports bra if you are generous of nork - the whole site is quite good actually.

Just having more of a look at that site...this looks a great offer - wish you could buy 3 different sizes (to fit my increasingly svelte frame)

Wuglet
well done. Very dedicated.

After emailing sportshoes.com twice about their horrendously high postal charges to Switzerland and not getting so much as a reply that they were working on a reply, I have ordered my kit here at Achillesheel.co.uk

they have already dispatched the order.

mrsbaldwin · 13/01/2010 22:28

I now have Runkeeper app (thanks for link MmeLindt)
I never had an app before
So now I am cool as well as thin

squashedfrogs · 13/01/2010 22:56

Wuglet, thanks for those links. Sadly the 3 for £30 offer doesn't have any in my size otherwise that would have set me up for ages - I do love a bargain . I'll have to have a proper look when I've got a bit more time.

llareggub · 13/01/2010 23:19

Well, I still can't run as we had a load more snow last night and it was too icy previously. I've been doing my Davina workouts instead and went for a good swim today. But it isn't the same, is it?

Well done wuglet.

AitchTwoOhOneOh · 14/01/2010 00:25

that's where i got my shoes, mmel, they're not far from me. suuuuch hunky young men. it's an excellent company, i think, really doing well.

MmeLindt · 14/01/2010 09:02

AAaargggggggghhhh, just noticed that I have ordered the wrong size of shoe. How stupid.

Really icy here at the moment, went out for a two hour walk this morning and struggled to stay on my feet, and that in hiking boots. It is very mild now though so the snow is going fast.

HerMomminess · 14/01/2010 09:45

Ok..dragged my (fat) @ss to gym and managed 30 min on treadmill yesterday eve. Let' s just say there was a lot more walking than running but hey ho.

Achilles heel is simply THE best running shop. Noticed my shoes need replace (DH threatened to chuck out a pair of recently purchased Sandalwood boots to make space!)

Anyone looked at the boobydoo website for bra' s? Need to be off brfeeding before purchasing any!

Here' s hoping this lasts.

mrsbaldwin I know how you feel- I was still swimming 1.5 k's past my due date! Now supremo blob!

Oh and Chirunning book by D Dreyer is fantastic for posture etc.

Off for a jog round the tip of a house now

MmeLindt · 14/01/2010 09:46

I bought my bra from Bravissimo. It is rather snug, hope I can breathe in it.
