Sorry to the ongoing couch to 5k thread but I am looking for others just starting out (and it looks like there might be quite a few of us on popsycal's thread).

So...anyone starting week 1 this week?

OP posts:
MmeLindt · 19/01/2010 18:49

Lol OM

mrsB
that is exactly want I did today, 2.5km in 20 mins.

mrsjuan · 19/01/2010 20:13

CJ I'm a bit dubious about the fact that I will be able to run 5k in 8 weeks too but I'm determined to stick to the plan out of curiosity as much as anything!

Just done my second run. I didn't find it any easier than the first but no harder either.

I'm thinking of signing up for the race for life in June as well so I have a good reason for keeping up the training.

golemmings · 19/01/2010 20:28

Yay!! There's lots of us out there!

I've run for the last 3 days (not all day, obviously) but, man, it feels good! Did W1R1 on Sunday, W2R1 yesterday and just done W1R2 today.

Compared to yesterday it was dead easy - it seemed much shorter and I was expecting more intervals (I must've lost count somewhere because I was expecting to put the last 2-3 runs together but suddenly I was on a cool down. Maybe my brain tricked me - my final 90 second walk was up the steep part of the hill!

Yesterday I put the last two runs together which gave me a whole 5 minutes of running bu Still less than 1km though

I'm discovering the liitations of living in a village. By agreement with DH I stick to inhabited/street lit roads but there aren't many of them. As I go further I'm going to keep running past the same people's front doors...
And Hermomminess - lots of washing! Sunday & today were lousy but yesterday Ifelt utterly normal! Towels will be required if I decide to go to bugy fit at any point though.

Planning on W3R1 tomorrow and the final W1R3 on Thursday. If the canal is frozen on Friday I might even attempt W4R1 instead.

Sorry - that's really long...

schiaparellipink · 19/01/2010 21:31

well done everyone. i've been to pilates today (and hiked uphill to and from nursery twice with a toddler and a pushchair - total of 8 km) so am taking it easy with glass of wine now and looking forward to pounding the pavements tomorrow!

golemmings · 19/01/2010 22:19

Oh Hermoomminess - sorry - that was a fairly flippant answer to your question and only referred to running. More generally - lots of pelvic floor exercises and pelvic weights. Its only running week 1 that there seems to be an issue - it was fine on the week 2 runs! I think lots of changing pace does strange things to your pelvic floor - possibly I speed up before it does... Still - keep practicing and it'll only get better!

ClaudiaSchiffer · 20/01/2010 02:15

Well done everyone.

I've had 2 days off, rest time y'know, and went for run #3 this morning.

FARKIN''ELL i'm getting worse! I managed about 3k and tried to do the run/walk thing but will have to download the main runkeeper app as my free version doesn't have the prompts and I find I lapse into a sort of gentle stroll if left to my own devices. And I feel exhausted which is disappointing but very pleased with myself for hauling myself out there.

I don't know whether to post this or not, as most of you are in the frozen UK but i'm in Oz and ran through beautiful native bushland, on a sunny warm (24) morning, with butterflies and dragonflies to keep me company.

Sorry

HerMomminess · 20/01/2010 12:27

I have only this cs: !

Managed 30 min on treadmil with w/r regime- think it felt a bit easier??

MmeLindt · 20/01/2010 12:48

Claudia
Hmm, this morning I was not bothered by your comment but now it has started snowing again. It was lovely the past two days that I was running though so I am not complaining. Supposed to get warmer again tomorrow.

Have to go to post office to pick up the parcel from Achilles Heel. Still kicking myself for ordering the wrong size of shoe. Don't know whether to sell it on here, rather than go to the expense of sending back.

Tabithacat · 20/01/2010 12:51

Following the BUPA plan and, as the snow had finally disappeared did day 1 yesterday. Did ok but was surprised how much ground I covered in those minutes. I am going to run out of places to run and be going round in circles!

Anyway the dog couldn't believe his luck, going so far in the dark, though I could have done without being divebombed by him in his excitement.

Also did Pilates on Monday and going swimming tonight,so day 2 of plan tomorrow.

Wish me luck.

HairyMaclary · 20/01/2010 14:44

Can I join in? I did the first run today following the ipod prompts from that Robert guy. I'm really pleased, legs ache now but not too much. I can't believe how unfit I am, about 8 years ago I used to run 10K at least once a week while I helped DH train for the London Marathon and I could barely manage a total 8 mins of running today! Never mind, I'm looking forward to getting better.
One question - I have trainers and clothes that will do but don't have a bra, am very small 34A and get confused looking at some of the sites. What do I need? Is running classed as high impact and therefore I need level 4, is that how it works? I wasn't expecting them to be £30 though!

HairyMaclary · 20/01/2010 14:53

oops, sorry for the double post

MmeLindt · 20/01/2010 14:58

No idea, HairyM (love your books btw) as I am rather large of nork so require full body scaffolding to prevent knocking myself unconscious when running.

mrsbaldwin · 20/01/2010 15:05

Times today - how running can make you happy by Caitlin Moran

Not too sure about the Kate Bush part but nice article ...

CJCregg · 20/01/2010 15:51

Hi all! Just saying hello - am enjoying my 'rest day' so nothing to report, except that I'm pleased by how little my legs are aching after yesterday's start.

Hi Hairy - also a big fan. Can't help on the bra front, I'm afraid, as like Mme Lindt I am in need of serious scaffolding in the norks department.

mrsbaldwin · 20/01/2010 16:33

I just had to look up HairyM on Google - and have now found out it is small dog from a book! The things you learn ...

MmeLindt · 20/01/2010 16:35

Are your DC older, MrsB? My DC love the Hairy McL books.

HairyMaclary · 20/01/2010 16:47

The Hairy Maclary books are great! When I joined MN they were my DS's favourite book - the name seemed obvious! I wasn't prepared for it to be shortened to Hairy though which took me a bit by surprise the first time!

HerMomminess · 20/01/2010 16:57

Hi hairy. With you on the chest front...that is before bf of course

I would say level 4 high impact. Have a look at boobydoo website. But yes- not cheap to avoid saggy boobs!

mrsbaldwin · 20/01/2010 17:37

I have one DS aged 10 months (and never had much to do with any kids before that)! So, he has quite a few books now but I'm only really just learning which the good ones are. I'm going to get a Hairy - it sounds great..

CJCregg · 20/01/2010 19:07

I have to confess, I like Slinky Malinki best (rapscallion cat!). They are fab.

Mrs B, are you Mrs Alec, Stephen, William or whatever the other one's called?

Sorry for brief thread hijack - will be running again tomorrow, shall report in.

wuglet · 20/01/2010 21:53

Hello all

My knee is still buggered so been for a swim tonight.

Have also managed to hurt the heel of my "good" leg with a foolish fall down stairs (OK not a fall, that thing where you think you are at the bottom but aren't).

So I now have a fetching double limp.

Bum and arse.

Hoping for a miraculous recovery but consoling myself that I could take 3 weeks off and as long as I restarted on week 3 would still be OK for the 5k.

We are banned from Hairy Mackary in our house as DD is terrified of Scarface Claw.

squashedfrogs · 20/01/2010 22:40

Hi all, I've had a serious problem with motivation this week but DP made me go out this evening and hopefully I'll be back on track soon.

I'm still on week 1 as I'm trying to get my fitness improved before getting carried away with the training. Fingers crossed there's no return of the snow and the weather gets a bit warmer.

wuglet · 20/01/2010 22:44

squashedfrogs

GIT YO ASS OUT THERE AND GIT RUNNIN!

Motivation enough for you?

OP posts:
MmeLindt · 21/01/2010 08:16

lol Wuglet.

Squashedfrogs
I am on week 3 and I am so glad that I started this programme. I do believe that my fat arse is looking rather less wobbly than before. This may be wishful thinking but it is my motivation.

DH took a photo of me at Xmas while I was on the floor with DS putting the scalectrix track together. The shame. It is my motivation.

I have put a photo of me up in the kitchen, from BC (before children) as motivation.
