Hi everyone,
it's been a while since we've had a thread for Parkrunners to share how their run went. So if you ran today , which event were you at, how did you go and if you have the 5K app, did you get any new achievements?

I'm in Australia, so we are at the start of our summer and it was a sunny morning in the low 20s so great for a run. I was at Mosman (Sydney) with my son, it's a 3 lap, out and back course with a short steep hill at the turnaround , that seems longer and steeper each lap.
I came about half-way and the only 5K app achievement I got was for Date Bingo.

Hope everyone else had a good day too

I park walked on Saturday (in UK) as I was a bit ill so trying to be a bit sensible. I got position bingo and date bingo so was pleased with that. What time did your Aus parkrun start? They’re a bit earlier out there aren’t they?

miked99 · 06/12/2022 06:20

Hope you feel better soon Yorkshire. Congrats on date and position bingo - I'm never sure exactly what place I've finished until the results are published as my local parkruns are all missing a few tokens.
As for start times there's no consistency, original parkruns used to be 7am but a few years ago all the newer ones were made to be 8am and it varies by state as well

We went to Curl Curl this morning , a flat figure of 8 course around a lagoon.
I came around half-way out of 300+ runners, but wasn't overtaken by anyone with a pram or a dog , so I'm happy.

And as a bonus I got Stopwatch Bingo , but nothing else
Hope everyone has a good Parkrun today

Yay to stop watch bingo! I did a brand new course so it was another towards my Cowell club but nothing else for me. Should be back to my home course next week. Just hope I can get out for some training runs in the week with all the snow and ice here.

miked99 · 12/12/2022 23:28

Hope the weather improves for you this week, I don't miss icy streets and defrosting the car windscreen in the mornings.
Cowell Club is a distant target for me, how many locations do you have ?

Mosman again for me today, we had a couple of groups of tourists from the UK and a few more people than normal but it didn't stop me coming almost exactly in the middle.

But I got position bingo, so I'm pleased
I'll be a tourist myself next week as we're off on holiday
Have a good run

Hey, glad you enjoyed your run. I got position bingo today as well and a new PB on my home course so I’m really pleased. Enjoy your tourist run next week. I’ve got 30 different courses so a long way off the Cowell club but I’ll get there one day! Are there any more parkrunners out there or is it just us?

BogRollBOGOF · 17/12/2022 12:02

I keep having life in the way of parkrun at present. It's a cough getting in the way this week 🙄

It's been a different reason each week!

VeronicaBeccabunga · 17/12/2022 12:08

Mr Beccabunga was RD for our local Parkrun this morning.
He was very relieved that no one fell and broke something as we have a very hard frost and several local runs were cancelled.
I'm not a runner but sometimes volunteer if needed, kudos to everyone who turns out and runs or helps - Parkrun is lovely 😍

NatMoz · 17/12/2022 12:09

My parkrun got cancelled as i arrived due to the rain/ice which was such a shame. There were many lycra clad people in the nearly Lidl after 🤣

NatMoz · 17/12/2022 12:12

Also I'm hoping the ice thaws next weekend as i plan to run on Saturday and Sunday (Christmas day parkrun!).

Caught the parkrun bug this year and I'm lucky that i live half a mile from one for when I can't be bothered driving further afield

LizziesTwin · 17/12/2022 21:31

I went today with my dogs (friend had my second dog). It was someone’s 90th birthday and another gentleman’s 86th. The 90 yr old looks in great shape.

miked99 · 18/12/2022 04:36

Yorkshire congratulations on your PB it must have been hard enough just running with the weather at the moment let alone beating your best time , and getting a bonus position bingo too.

Thanks Veronica to you (and Mr Beccabunga) for volunteering, I'm always tempted to go for Tail Walker , but that's the one position they never have trouble filling at my local parkruns.

Sorry to hear your run was cancelled NatMoz. Hope you manage to get your christmas eve/christmas day double next week are you doing the same for New Years ?

Well done to you and your dogs Lizzies, at my local parkrun the dogs almost drag their owners round they are so keen to run, I'm not sure who enjoys it more.

And hope you are feeling better for next week BogRoll

Double coming up next weekend. Maybe the new year weekend too.

In the new year I have to get back to body pump as it seems to improve my running times. I hate pump as its so dull but as I'm heading towards fifty I want to try and speed up again.

Yorkshiregold · 18/12/2022 10:50

Yay, there are loads of us now! I’m also looking to do the double double over Christmas and New Year too.

Meglet, I’ve been doing a press up app, building up towards 100 since August, doing 2 or 3 sessions per week. I did 68 in the week and then ran a PB on my local course on Saturday. It might be that you can do something shorter & sharper at home that still improves your running without having to endure a class. I’m also thinking of adding in some kettlebell squats and swings. I’m mid forties and know I need to do a bit of strength work but not the biggest fan of the gym either!

24petlegs · 18/12/2022 20:48

DH got his 50th parkrun yesterday….he hadn’t realised until the results came through!
I got 5 ‘trophies’ on the 5k app, date and position being the main ones.
would love to do Xmas day but the timing just doesn’t work with the kids…once they’ve left home…one day!

Cornishmumofone · 18/12/2022 20:59

I'm looking forward to Saturday as it'll be a trio of (arbitrary) milestones for my family: 25 for DD, 350 for DH and 400 for me 😊

miked99 · 22/12/2022 06:37

400 that's fantastic Cornish, so is 350 of course and 25
I can't get my head around that it's 2000kms you will have run

Taking my husband for his first parkrun on Saturday! Very excited 😁 he's run the course already with me.

I've done lots 🤣🤣

parkrunner1977 · 22/12/2022 10:51

We're very much looking forward to the upcoming double event weekends, and all being well we'll both complete the magic 50 runs in a year challenge (hubby will get that this Saturday, NYE will be mine) :-)

Yorkshiregold · 22/12/2022 20:47

All being well NYE will be my 50th this year too. Didn’t set out to do it but realised in September it was possible if I didn’t miss a run.

brownbear201 · 22/12/2022 22:23

I'll be volunteering as a tail walker this Saturday. My first time volunteering so I'm a bit nervous haha. Looking forward to it after two cancellations due to icy paths!

miked99 · 24/12/2022 04:47

Congratulations to everyone doing a milestone today - seems like there are a lot of very dedicated runners on this thread.

We were on a camping holiday at Jervis Bay for the past few days, so ran at Huskisson which is an out and back along a pathway next to a sandy white beach. It's very flat and fast so despite my aches from sleeping on a Thermarest I got my fastest time since before the pandemic as well as another position bingo and Cowell club. I'm back home now so will have a go for the Christmas day run at my local course tomorrow.

Hope everyone has a great run or volunteer this weekend

BogRollBOGOF · 24/12/2022 12:16

I made it out this morning, accompanied by a stroppy child 😂

My first run in over a week after 2 weeks of a cold/ cough. I'm not quite back on form but felt up to running again.

We're muttering about junior parkrunning in the morning. There's not many on and the juniors got first dibbs as it's our usual day. Our juniors politely declined and offered it to the 5k. I'm happy to go which is one thing, but filling up the roster is another issue! The next nearest is on and it fits OK with getting to church too.

OhOneOhTwoOhThree · 24/12/2022 12:34

How lovely to see this thread reappear. I used to be on the old threads, then moved to somewhere with no parkrun for a year or two, and then the pandemic stopped play...

I ran at my local this morning. Am considering tomorrow, as I suspect that I'll be the only up at 8:30 tomorrow.
