Parkrunners Assemble - reviving the thread that will remind you "do not forget you barcode"

Hi everyone,
it's been a while since we've had a thread for Parkrunners to share how their run went. So if you ran today , which event were you at, how did you go and if you have the 5K app, did you get any new achievements?

I'm in Australia, so we are at the start of our summer and it was a sunny morning in the low 20s so great for a run. I was at Mosman (Sydney) with my son, it's a 3 lap, out and back course with a short steep hill at the turnaround , that seems longer and steeper each lap.
I came about half-way and the only 5K app achievement I got was for Date Bingo.

Hope everyone else had a good day too

Managed to get there this morning, first time since pre pandemic. Hopefully this is the start of me park running again. My target is to try for 20 runs in a year. I really hate running so it will definitely be a challenge.

Well done @WormEater! It's good to have a target; twice now I've done loads of Parkruns in a row to get to my next 'milestone' by a certain date.

Now I've done over 100 though the 250 seems SO far away Confused

SouthCountryGirl · 07/01/2023 16:32

Back to my "first" home parkrun today. It was so muddy. And now to clean the mud off my shoes...

Slowest time ever there today. No surprise given the mud and my current state of fitness.

WormEater · 08/01/2023 22:01

Have just checked my results. 38 minutes and runner number four hundred and eighty something out of six hundred. 44 percent.
I'm really pleased I went. I know it sounds silly given that some people here have run hundreds of park runs, but I have felt a Huge sense of satisfaction from completing it. I had a child and a dog for motivation alongside me, though the child also found it tough going.

miked99 · 08/01/2023 22:14

WormEater, it would drive most people mad hauling a child and a dog round so you are fully justified in feeling good.
Your child will soon be leaving you in the dust, mine did years ago, so enjoy having the edge over them while you can.

A bit of touring tomorrow…a visit to Market Bosworth for their 5th event. Packing my trail shoes…

HoollyWugger · 13/01/2023 19:27

Can I shuffle in ...? I did my first one on New Year's Day - ridiculously slow, more walking than running, 48.41, and it absolutely knackered me for the rest of the day! But hoping to keep going and slowly improve.

Yorkshiregold · 13/01/2023 20:00

Enjoy your touring standingonlego, I love doing a new course. I’m staying local tomorrow though as it just about fits in with all the other Saturday activities.

Of course you can shuffle in HoollyWugger, that’s the whole point of parkrun! Everyone does the same distance, no matter what time they get. I hope you enjoy it tomorrow. Kudos to everyone getting out there as it will probably be a miserable, rainy morning for a lot of us.

HouseofHolbein · 13/01/2023 21:20

Timekeeping tomorrow 😊 husband is marshalling for the first time. Hope it isn't too wet as I have work at 12 and don't want to be freezing cold for that

OhOneOhTwoOhThree · 13/01/2023 22:03

Enjoy your touring @Standingonlego

Welcome @HoollyWugger!

I'm volunteering tomorrow - there was a call-out earlier this week so I said I'd park walk. Hope it's not too wet, although the forecast is bad.

miked99 · 13/01/2023 23:35

Showery morning in Sydney which wasn't the best as we were at Mosman and the turnarounds and hills we're slippery.
Lots of first timers and tourists and I wore my new shoes from Christmas and did my best time there in 4 years.

Got position bingo too so am doubly happy.

Have a good run/ volunteer everyone

Morning all! I park walked today with a brand new first timer. I also did the first timers briefing as a last minute stand-in.

it poured for the last lap so I’m feeling doubly smug for volunteering in the wet 😀

Standingonlego · 14/01/2023 14:01

So much mud….and was powerwalking so out in the torrential rain which started about 9.35 on lap 2. It was still a great start to my weekend though :)

thank you for making the magic happen @OhOneOhTwoOhThree 😊

OhOneOhTwoOhThree · 14/01/2023 15:01

Good grief @Standingonlego that looks amazing! Did you stay upright?

Standingonlego · 14/01/2023 16:06

Only just !! 🤣 gorgeous course, will be back in the summer!

BogRollBOGOF · 14/01/2023 16:59

Back to my usual local today. I briefly toyed with the idea of a trail course, but didn't want to besmirch my shiny new trainers.

The rain had eased and it was mild enough to be quite comfortable for running.

I came in in the 30 min window with enough in the tank to max out a pleasing sprint. I used the C25k+ Stepping Stone track for pacing which is about right for me to push close to 30 mins but not burn out. I listen to the 5 min warm-up/ intro while walking through the park, then pause and play as the run starts.

A good antidote to the long, slow marathon training.

brooksghost · 14/01/2023 20:21

My parkrun looked like the picture @Standingonlego posted. Slow and hard going today with added strong headwinds, deep puddles and rain! Trail shoes...didn't make any difference again today!
Only got the 'date bingo' as a challenge but did manage to place well.

(been on this thread for a few weeks now but had a name change).

MaryDerry · 14/01/2023 20:38

Do your Parkruns have photographers all over the bloodyplace and then stick them all
over social media after ??

I really really hate it.

Mine doesn't tend to, so I quite like it when I go to one that does.

Soproudoflionesses · 14/01/2023 22:48

I was a hi viz hero today!!
Got a bad foot so can't run so have been bar code scanning instead but looking forward to running it again asap.

WormEater · 15/01/2023 09:51

2nd parkrun completed. Not as wet as last week which was good. 3 minutes faster this week as well. Not sure how as I thought I was going a bit slower.
Seeing the mud pictures makes me appreciate my local run being on paths 🙂

Yorkshiregold · 15/01/2023 11:57

@miked99 well done on your best time in 4 years & position bingo too!
@wormeater great work on getting your 2nd parkrun done, often harder to do than the first.
Nice work to all you lot on muddy courses, we have an alternative route so I was on the paths yesterday, no new trophies for me on the 5k app though.
@maryderry we do have photographers at our parkrun, it is a standing joke that I always have my eyes closed & mouth open on my running photos, to the extent that I wonder if I have my eyes closed & mouth open the whole time! I do enjoy checking out the photos though. If you’re really uncomfortable about it then I’m sure you could ask to get them removed.
Thank you to all you hi-viz heroes.
Hope you all have a good week.

megletthesecond · 15/01/2023 12:13

Ours was cancelled yesterday due to a waterlogged / puddly course. Unheard of for us.
Lots of us ran our own route instead, trying to avoid getting too muddy.

OhOneOhTwoOhThree · 20/01/2023 22:01

I’m touring tomorrow, going for trail rather than my home parkrun’s probably icy paths. It’s a bit of a gamble if there‘a a last minute cancellation but we have a plan B just in case.

TherealmrsT · 20/01/2023 22:10

Scanning tomorrow, take care everyone on icy/muddy surfaces.
