Parkrunners Assemble - reviving the thread that will remind you "do not forget you barcode"

Hi everyone,
it's been a while since we've had a thread for Parkrunners to share how their run went. So if you ran today , which event were you at, how did you go and if you have the 5K app, did you get any new achievements?

I'm in Australia, so we are at the start of our summer and it was a sunny morning in the low 20s so great for a run. I was at Mosman (Sydney) with my son, it's a 3 lap, out and back course with a short steep hill at the turnaround , that seems longer and steeper each lap.
I came about half-way and the only 5K app achievement I got was for Date Bingo.

Hope everyone else had a good day too

I'm also thinking about goals for next year, which include my 250 milestone, my 50 volunteer milestone, and some tourism - aiming to tick off my 10 NENDYs, although some of them are quite far away!

brownbear201 · 24/12/2022 16:54

I volunteered this morning! Really enjoyed it, although it did take me an hour to finish the course and I was about 10 minutes behind the last finisher as I had a lady who only wanted to walk the first lap so I had to do some serious catching up on the second lap.

I'll be running for the next few weeks then volunteering again. Hope everyone enjoyed their run this morning!

HouseofHolbein · 24/12/2022 18:25

Took the husband for his first Parthia morning 👍 he loyally stayed with me 🤣🤣 I was hungover and my ankle was dodgy so we did some walking. Finished in 37 minutes.

miked99 · 25/12/2022 00:39

Just back from Christmas Day at Curl Curl where over 200 of us ran. There were lots of people in costumes but the most impressive was the guy who came top 10 wearing an inflatable sled!

Merry Christmas everyone

Well done to you.

I did PR last year on Christmas Day and NYD just because both fell on a Sat.

Did this morning (Xmas Eve) with 5 of my family - next week they are doing NYE and NYD - will do both.

Last week we ran it in the snow (Black Park - in Buckinghamshire) - thru the beautiful pine forest around the lake - it was absolutely beautiful.

Hooray, great to see this thread revived ☺️ I wore my just arrived 250 green milestone T-shirt on Christmas Eve! So proud of myself….it’s only taken nearly 20 and a half years. Parkrun is a fabulous thing

Currently parkwalkung due to dodgy hip but still plodding round most weeks !!

CalmConfident · 25/12/2022 23:15

Waves to @OhOneOhTwoOhThree ☺️

CalmConfident · 25/12/2022 23:15

10 and a half years…not 20 😂 too much baileys drunk…

Standingonlego · 26/12/2022 08:38

@OhOneOhTwoOhThree 😂 this might make more sense!

OhOneOhTwoOhThree · 26/12/2022 09:34

Hello @Standingonlego! I wondered if there were any old timers still around. Great to see you are still parkrunning. Congratulations on your 250, and I will let you know if I am heading in your direction.

BogRollBOGOF · 26/12/2022 10:19

I made it to Christmas Day parkrun. DS had wanted to go to a juniors, but stocking temptations overcame him so I made a last minute decision to switch to 5k and went to my nearest.

It was lovely. I tried Christmas Day last year but had DS with me and it was 3⁰C and drizzly and he just chilled off too much too quickly so we aborted mission. Later in the day I had a tickle in my throat and spent Boxing Day queuing in the next county for a PCR test...
So I'm very glad I've finally had a successful Christmas Day parkrun! 😂

parkrunner1977 · 27/12/2022 22:26

My husband successfully completed his 50 run parkun obsessive challenge on Christmas Eve which was great. We and 318 others ran at our nearest on Christmas Day but I wasn't feeling very well and in hindsight should have stayed in bed as it was a struggle & I felt terrible during/after it. Anyway that was 49 under the belt so Saturday will be my 50th this year, fingers crossed I feel better by then and actually manage to do it, even if I walk it!

SerenadeOfTheSchoolRun · 28/12/2022 09:48

Hello parkrunners - how great to have a mumsnet thread on this😀. I was iced off on 17th December too but back for the double for Christmas Eve and Christmas Day. I am working on my P index and got that up to 5 on Christmas Day. Only three runs away from 6 so should get that done next year but 7 and 8 will be harder.

It is a balance I think between getting into a community at one or two places and having the variety of going to different places. I am so lucky where I live that there are 8 parkruns in easy distance.

I will be tail walking this Saturday for the first time and don’t think I can make New Years Day as we have guests overnight.

beguilingeyes · 28/12/2022 09:51

I really need to get to the NYE one. I haven't run for a couple of months. We had a bathroom refit so no shower for ages and I've been sick for a while. Need to get back in the saddle..so to speak.
My last Parkrun was my 70th, touristing in Ashford.

miked99 · 30/12/2022 23:18

It was raining before the start of the New Years Eve parkrun at Curl Curl, but it stopped as we started, the sun came out and I ran nearly two minutes faster than I have all year - so I'm delighted. I also got Stopwatch Bingo and Date Bingo as a bonus
I was wearing new shoes (Hoka - they are really cushioned) that I got for Christmas and I'm sure that most of the benefit was psychological , but they are definitely my favourite present I received in 2022.

Hope everyone has a great run or volunteer and New Year's Eve too

I'm off to park run tomorrow, but had a fair bit of wine.
Mind boggling a bit that you've already done yours@miked99 ! Congrats on PB and happy new year!
I don't park run much as it's a drive to our nearest and it clashes with football most weeks. Do love it though and used to be a regular jr parkrun volunteer.

CalmConfident · 31/12/2022 07:58

Morning folks! It’s parkrun day !! I am staying local today and catching up with friends. Hope everyone has a great time be that running, walking or volunteering

LizziesTwin · 31/12/2022 08:00

Off to my usual where I’m running & then bar code scanning & finish token sorting. I’d hoped a few more people would sign up as volunteers.

Iwanttoquitthegym · 31/12/2022 08:05

I’m child free for first time in months so venturing to a local flat tarmac to see what I can do without the buggy…..but a bit too much wine last night 😂

HouseofHolbein · 31/12/2022 08:11

I'm having to give this morning a miss due to work ☹️ have fun everyone!

Glindara · 31/12/2022 09:16

We have today and tomorrow at ours - all of my family have gone today. I will go tomorrow NYD.

OhOneOhTwoOhThree · 31/12/2022 11:29

Morning all - well done @miked99 on your PB! Hope everyone else had good runs too.

I volunteered this morning, will run tomorrow.

New trainers have arrived ready for the New Year - hurrah!

SerenadeOfTheSchoolRun · 31/12/2022 12:12

I tail walked today and it was much faster than I expected so I was a bit overdressed and hot! Got another stopwatch bingo so 80% on that one now 😀. Hoping I might get out tomorrow after all as our guests are not well so not coming.

Yorkshiregold · 31/12/2022 13:29

Well done on your fastest time of the year miked99 and yay to new trainers, hope they help you get speedier into 2023! I did my 50th parkrun of the year today so am now officially a parkrun obsessive (I knew this already though). No other trophies for me today though I did get my highest ever finish at my local run today as we had quite a low turnout. I am hoping to get out again tomorrow as I think it’s the best way to start another year. Looking forward to hearing how you all get on

miked99 · 31/12/2022 21:45

Congratulations on being an 'obsessive' Yorkshire and your highest finish.
I had plans to run this morning but a bit too much celebrating last night put paid to that.
Good luck to everyone today with more willpower than I have
