What exercise 'achievement' perked you up recently?

Mine was on Saturday when I went out for a road cycle - hadn't realised it was quite so windy and it was against me for the first 15 miles or so - had been up several decent hills and was about 5 miles from home going along a flat, straight road which is fairly exposed. Reader, it may have been slightly wind assisted but my speedometer reached 30.3mph!!!!! On the flat!!! For a couple of hundred yards!!.
Managed to sustain at over 29mph for several hundred yards! I was SO pleased with myself.

Anyone else got an exercise achievement they want to brag about? Grin

What a great thread! All of these are brilliant.

I’m proud of myself today because I ran a sub 30 min 5k at 28 weeks pregnant 🙂 I changed my sleeping position recently from on my side, which was awful, to lying almost sat up propped on loads of pillows and I feel so much better for it!

CovidCorvid · 02/02/2022 09:18
@StrictlyAFemaleFemale that's the best one on here! I have had to instruct my male PT that I cannot do jumping exercises unless he wants a little bit of wee to come out too. He was very cool about the whole thing Grin
Ha ha. I’ve told my PT that my feet don’t leave the floor unless getting into bed or onto a bike.

I cycled 40 miles at the weekend with an average speed of 14.5mph. On my own

Babdoc · 02/02/2022 09:24

I’ve been ill with long Covid for two years - was reduced to 100 yards walk on the flat leaving me too breathless to speak.
But after gradually increasing my distance, last week I managed (with DD’s encouragement) to climb an 1100 foot escarpment, walking four and a half miles to do it. The views to the Cairngorms and out to the North sea were to die for - and I nearly did! But I was v chuffed to make it.

Nomicron · 02/02/2022 09:29

These are great-love the variety of exercises and achievements.

I made sure I did at least half an hour of exercise every day in January-mix of walks, runs and gym classes. I’m going to try to continue that streak for the rest of the year.

Baggiepussy I'm seriously impressed! I seem to have some form of mental block for press ups and pull ups. However hard I train or try I can't do them properly so end up with kneeling/incline push ups and assisted pull ups with the wrong grip cos the right one hurts!
*@Natsku * you are on a slippery slope now ! Every shop, website or magazine will be scanned for 'ooo I must try those' items of exercise clothing Grin.
UnadulteratedCat Fantastic !! How long have you been doing Pilates for? I tried it a couple of times but didn't like the studio atmosphere and the noise of the gym just outside!

Thank you so much!! One day maybe I’ll do a pull up 😂😂 really chuffed with myself, I’m over 50 and just getting into weights.
Coughee · 02/02/2022 13:34

Sub 30min 5k for me - first one in years after a big struggle with my running mojo. In awe of you worrymcgee, managing the same at 28 weeks pregnant!

Stellaris22 · 02/02/2022 13:44

Decided that this year is the year I can do unassisted pull ups, lots of upper body training.

Managed 3 sets of 8 incline push ups (PT makes me do the correct form and it's hard) and managed 30kg shoulder press sets this morning.

blobby10 · 03/02/2022 19:53

After being inspired by you all, I put my stuff out to go to the gym this morning and promptly forgot to set my alarm 😩😩 prob no cycling this weekend due to wind and rain so will head to gym for extra sessions - might even get one of my own ‘gym achievements’ to post 🤞🤞

Carried on running after achieving my couch to 5k!

Brightermornings · 03/02/2022 20:24

I finally swam 1000m in 30 minutes I've been trying for ages. I was so chuffed.
Well done everyone Smile

CouldItBeYesItCould · 03/02/2022 20:31

Upped my deadlift and back squat load to more than my body weight 💪. Makes me feel like superwoman 😂

FrugalFrancine · 03/02/2022 20:35

Well done op! That's astounding. You're one of those cyclists who needs to watch the speed limit if you're in a 30 Wink

My achievement was deadlifting 85kgs recently

LaChanticleer · 03/02/2022 21:39

Great thread!!

I’m back to lifting really heavy (for me) in deadlifts - reached 97kilos the other week, and today did several sets of 2 reps at 90k. And squats at 40kilos were feeling really smooth and relatively effortless. Also getting faster and fitter at the cardio stuff. Running really fast (16kph) on the treadmill doesn’t scare me quite so much.

Getting fit and staying fit is generally a lot of grind, and the increases are incremental, but every now and again I can really feel the improvement.

It’s good to look back to what I used to do and what I can do now.

KateTheEighth · 03/02/2022 21:44

I managed 105kg deadlifts (4:6:6) today

It's taken me a long time to get there and I'm ridiculously proud of myself, particularly as a shortarse

Sidge · 03/02/2022 21:57

I managed my heaviest bench press today, at 30kg - managed 6! (I’d already done 20 at lighter weights).

Have also been working on my pull-ups and can do a set now with just one resistance band.

LaChanticleer · 04/02/2022 12:42

Wow, reps at 105 kg. I'm heading for 100, but I doubt I'll ever be able to do more than 1 rep at a time!

PinkFizz1 · 04/02/2022 20:07

Love this thread!

For me I have been working on my progressive overload this week and been lifting heavier. Also been trying some new exercises. All in all it’s been a good week gym wise Smile

Softpebbles · 04/02/2022 20:12

Great thread!

Finally getting there with my Crow pose!

Hardtofindafreename · 04/02/2022 20:17

Went out with the faster group cycling this weekend and beat 2 of who I considered to be the 'big boys' up the hill. I could hardly believe it but it felt so good passing the out. I've sent so long minimizing myself to hide in the background but this thread has made me more proud of myself. As women I feel we need to celebrate and be proud of our achievements more whereas I find men are always bragging about their stats.

Stellaris22 · 04/02/2022 20:25

I'm awful at cardio and do treadmill running because I feel I have to rather than enjoyment. I make myself run a minimum of 1.5km before I get to do my fun weight lifting.

My achievement today was accidentally running 1.5 miles instead of km because I forgot to change the display to km!

PinkFizz1 · 05/02/2022 09:21

I do exactly the same!

Amazing what we can achieve. Well done!

Sidge · 05/02/2022 09:32

@Stellaris22 treadmill running is so tedious though! I love running and frequently run anything from 5-20km outside, but find treadmill running so bloody boring.

Switch it up and get your cardio in a different way - ski machine, assault bike, spin bike, HIIT, skipping, etc.

Much more interesting!

Stellaris22 · 05/02/2022 10:47

I have my headphones so it makes the treadmill more entertaining, it's just the cardio I do before weights so I know I'll do it as im in the gym anyway.

I switch to rowing and ski erg machine occasionally but the assault bike is my most hated gym equipment!
