What exercise 'achievement' perked you up recently?

Mine was on Saturday when I went out for a road cycle - hadn't realised it was quite so windy and it was against me for the first 15 miles or so - had been up several decent hills and was about 5 miles from home going along a flat, straight road which is fairly exposed. Reader, it may have been slightly wind assisted but my speedometer reached 30.3mph!!!!! On the flat!!! For a couple of hundred yards!!.
Managed to sustain at over 29mph for several hundred yards! I was SO pleased with myself.

Anyone else got an exercise achievement they want to brag about? Grin

Recently had a city break and walked over 8 miles on the first day. This is coming from a place where I struggled to make it round the supermarket without my back hurting due to my weight.

Finally managed to do a 60kg squat for the 1st time in 14 months. Been having a lot of trouble with my left arthritic knee. I swapped from sleeping on my left side to my right and my knee feels much more stable and pain free, such a simple change.

MrOllivander · 20/04/2022 09:57

I did my first 45 min peloton class Smile

Crazzzycat · 20/04/2022 14:42

That’s brilliant progress @ithoughtisawapuddycat. There are a lot of great results on this thread, but to walk 8 miles when until recently walking any kind of distance was a real struggle is seriously impressive. Keep it up!

xsquared · 20/04/2022 21:42

Beaten my 1 mile PB - now 6:52, at a 3200m time trial.

doadeer · 20/04/2022 21:55

I have chronic pain and have had a really tough few years. In a pilates class I managed a side plank with top leg raised quite easily. It's not that long ago I couldn't walk so I was amazed! 💪

MsMartini · 24/04/2022 10:14

Amazing thread - such a range of achievements - especially those coming back from long term illness or injury. It is inspiring.

I spent the week building back up after a mild dose of covid and did my park bootcamp yesterday.

Chesneyhawkes1 · 24/04/2022 16:30

Today I set a new pb for half marathon. 1.23.29. So chuffed! My legs now hurt 😂🤦‍♀️

blobby10 · 27/04/2022 08:37

Mine is a very small one today - I actually went to the gym before work! Not long ago I was a 5am gym bunny 5 days a week. Then Covid hit and my routine got shot down, and since then I've just not been able to get back into the groove, using all sorts of excuses. However this morning when my peri menopause brain decided to wake up at 3.45am I gave myself a stern talking to about not choosing to be lazy went to the gym! I can't say I enjoyed it (I'm not that bonkers!) but I'm glad I went. 😀

I pushed a new PB on the sled the other day - 320 kilos. And it didn't feel too hard.

Although, swings & roundabouts ... on the 2nd push, I pinged a calf muscle. So that put a stop to anything more athletic than a LOT of calf, hamstring & glue stretches, assisted by my PT, so I got very bendy with his bodyweight in the mix.

Am I the only weirdo to really enjoy being stretched by someone else? It's such a luxury. When physios do it to test stuff, I want them to really push me to the extreme edge of my range of motion - which physios never want to do! . It's so much better than stretching myself even though I'm good at using therabands and so on.

Zazdar · 07/05/2022 18:44

My achievement this week was actually getting back to the gym for my usual four sessions. Actually, I did a double one day so, five. For some reason, I lost my gym mojo about a month ago and really struggled.

BogRollBOGOF · 08/05/2022 18:04

Run/ walking a 5k parkrun.
Currently on C25k recovering from injury and couldn't even do wk1 C25k 3m ago without regretting it.
On week 4 otherwise. Looking forwards to running it sensibly again.

blobby10 · 08/05/2022 20:22

Can't believe this thread is still going! All these achievements are absolutely fantastic. I had another cycling achievement today - reached 40mph going down a hill - my fastest speed to date! I also didn't focus on my failure to get up a hill due to slow gear changes! I was just glad I unclipped the pedals before I fell off so could dismount elegantly and push bike up the steep hill 😂

At last! 120kg deadlift.

MsMartini · 11/05/2022 20:37

Brilliant achievements - and such a range.

Mine is I've done 6.5/7 pull ups as a first set a couple of times now - I want 10 by the end of the year but that still feels a long way off. And a couple of other calisthenics moves have come on.

iloveeverykindofcat · 12/05/2022 07:03

Also side-plank. Trying to strengthen arms and core without losing weight so that was big for me. Also tripod headstand is getting there. Holding it up and bringing it down are good but getting legs up is a bit uncontrolled. Tend to bounce off a wall.

Try that last sentence out of context.

blobby10 · 23/05/2022 11:41

Morning everyone - another small achievement for me this weekend. Did a 100km cycle up some really difficult hills and I didn't get off and walk! I was much slower than I wanted to be due to cycling with the wrong people (note to self - trust your instincts and cycle on your own next time!) but I did it!

In my starting stage of my workout, I start simple workout early morning running exercise. In the starting stage, I feel little get tired....But later I likes my workout because of my body function and changes in my body shape. Still now I m doing my early morning workout, It gives me a new feel and energy in my body every day.

xsquared · 24/05/2022 18:39

Did My first ever race. Pretty low key trail race but I came 4th in my age category and was 8th female, overall 65th out of 256 participants.

Went to Parkrun for the first time a couple of days ago despite running for many years now and going running 4 times a week normally.

blobby10 · 28/05/2022 13:19

Fabulous results everyone!! I hope we all feel very proud of ourselves - its so difficult sometimes to tell other people how much we've achieved as they either dismiss it or say something like 'yes but I did it better/quicker/sooner'!!

This morning I decided to tackle some hill demons on my bike - I managed to climb all including one that I've never done before without getting off and walking!!

Well done @blobby10 on cycling on hills without resorting to pushing it up. I do that too!

Yesterday, I ran my longest distance with the help of my new running buddy. 19 miles, although inwould credit the extra mile to getting lost!

I'm still not quite ready to attempt marathon distance though!

blobby10 · 28/05/2022 15:35

@xsquared 19 miles?!!! WOW!! That's a standard after work cycle for me - there is no way I could run even a tenth of that! You are awesome!!! Fantastic!!!

Just out of curiosity, in the amateur cycling fraternity , if you can cycle 40 miles you can do 60 and if you can do 60 you can do 100 - that sort of thing. Is it the same with running? I would assume much harder work anyway.................!

More wonderful achievements, good to read. I am just free from covid (again) so looking forward to getting back to strength training and running.

@blobby10, that's interesting. I fidn the opposite actually - I am keener on exercise than most of my non-gym friends and train more seriously. So if I say I can do xyz (what you would expect of a middle aged woman who trains consistently - pleasing but not amazing IYSWIM), it comes out wrong, sounds much more impressive than it is, and people say oh I could never do that. And I feel bad and want to say but you probably could if you trained 5 times a week for 4 years - maybe more if you were more efficient than me! Does anyone else find this happens?

MsMartini · 28/05/2022 18:50

Sorry, @blobby10 I meant in response to your comment about people saying they could do things better!

blobby10 · 28/05/2022 19:04

@MsMartini yes I agree with you - my comment was more about people who don’t like someone else doing anything of worth or will always play down someone else achievements so they themselves don’t feel inadequate 😁😁maybe it’s just me being unlucky! X
