What exercise 'achievement' perked you up recently?

Mine was on Saturday when I went out for a road cycle - hadn't realised it was quite so windy and it was against me for the first 15 miles or so - had been up several decent hills and was about 5 miles from home going along a flat, straight road which is fairly exposed. Reader, it may have been slightly wind assisted but my speedometer reached 30.3mph!!!!! On the flat!!! For a couple of hundred yards!!.
Managed to sustain at over 29mph for several hundred yards! I was SO pleased with myself.

Anyone else got an exercise achievement they want to brag about? Grin

Six pull-ups as a first set, when fresh. Slow progress, but so satisfying.

iloverock · 07/03/2022 06:43

I went out with a cycling club yesterday expecting to go out with the social ride and only about 20 miles

Well there wasn't a social ride there was only 4 others and ended up doing twice that distance. But very pleased with myself

Respect. I'd love to be able to do even one!
MsMartini · 07/03/2022 09:22

Stick at it, @gingerhills. Negatives, holds and bands Smile. It took me months to get my first one (and I could deadlift and squat nearly my bodyweight then), but it does happen!

That's amazing! My long term goal is to do one. Training with a PT who has set routines to strengthen back etc, but it's going to be a while. Gone from 50kg to 32kg on the assisted pull up machine.

Wow. Did you have a trainer? What you can do are all my fitness goals!
MsMartini · 07/03/2022 19:32

@gingerhills and @Stellaris22 thank you! I have just started PT but until then trained with my gym partner (who pushes me - a man 20 years younger) and some calisthenics classes.

@stellaris, that machine seems to divide opinion Smile. I mainly trained without it, doing negs and holds, and some banded work. Basically, whatever I could do three sets of 5-8 ish reps on, then build up. For a long time, one pull-up was my max, had to lie down in a darkened room after that. It is only quite recently that I can train using sets of full pull-ups IYSWIM, and still often use bands to build volume or to try to be a bit more explosive!

Stick at it - it will happen Smile

Stellaris22 · 07/03/2022 19:46

@MsMartini my PT is giving me lots of exercises to strengthen the muscles needed, I use the machine and the band as well. It's slow but it's great having a goal. I'm seriously impressed at anyone who can do them!

MsMartini · 07/03/2022 19:53

@Stellaris22 - absolutely. it is slow but the feeling when you get your first......amazing!

blobby10 · 20/03/2022 18:54

Just rebooting this thread as I had three really good bike rides this weekend and got a couple of Queens of the Mountain awards and several PB's!! I'm just getting over a really shitty chest cold (not Covid) so was delighted to be able to even cycle with falling off whilst coughing!

Hope you're all still rewarding yourselves for those little achievements!

I've ridden 60km for the first time. Quite proud of that as my saddle is not yet perfect!

UglyModernWindows · 22/03/2022 17:42

Mastering the Tree Pose in Yoga! It's taken a long time but at last I can stand on one leg - for a while! At first I couldn't do it at all, my balance was so bad. Not sure if it's because my core is better now or whether my ankles have strengthened or both (been doing Caroline Girvan's strength training for nearly a year now).

Brightermornings · 25/03/2022 18:47

I deadlifted 60k on Monday. I am well impressed with myself. Up till mid feb I'd only probably done 20kg. I reckon I can lift heavier (I do it with a pt I won't feel comfortable doing it on my own). I'm always happy with any progress I'm never going to be record breaking but every bit of progress is a win in my eyes.

blobby10 · 25/03/2022 19:04

Congratulations to all of us with exercise achievements this week! Xx my own efforts have ground to a halt due to poor sleep and lots of stress- hoping to get out on my bike tomorrow and Sunday before the weather get cold again x

Ran a half marathon in 1 hr 40 minutes last week. Want to target 1 hour 35 minutes next.

Chely · 29/03/2022 13:04

I injured my right hip a few weeks back and it's still niggly but I reintroduced paused squats and feeling much more stable across my hips now. Only managing 50kg for sets of 3 reps but will increase them and will get them back up to the 80kg I was doing for paused doubles pre-pregnancy.

Stellaris22 · 29/03/2022 13:29

Got to 40kg with my bench press and I've tripled the distance I can do with walking lunges.

Chesneyhawkes1 · 29/03/2022 13:40

I ran 10 miles on Sunday in the quickest time I've ever ran it!

MsMartini · 29/03/2022 14:14

Loving this thread and the variety of achievements. I've made progress on a couple of core exercises (tucks) and headstands.

blobby10 · 29/03/2022 15:27

*@Chely * 50Kg squats are my max to date! Never mind the pausing bit! That's incredible - well done!!

@Stellaris22 40kg bench is awesome. I'm aiming for that but keep stalling due to lack of motivation to get to the gym so stuck on 30-35 Sad
@Chesneyhawkes1 am in awe! 10 miles is further than I've ever run in my whole life - I could easily cope with 6 miles cross country when I was young and fit but can't even do one mile now Sad.

I managed 5 sets of 2 reps each at 90kilos deadlifts the other day.

I am still failing at 100kg deadlifts but never mind. My consolation is that I can push 300 kilos on the sled, there and back on the track (so 20 metres each time) and did 5 runs (there & back) at 250 kilos yesterday.

CryHavoc · 29/03/2022 22:12

I started CrossFit in the new year, and last week did a set of three 100kg deadlifts, and a proper box jump onto a 20 inch box. Unimaginable three months ago.

gingerhills · 29/03/2022 22:17

Really tiny one but I've barely been able to exercise since catching Covid in Feb. twice this week I have been for walks which are more than 10k steps. That's a tiny achievement in comparison with my usual exercise but it felt a bit like returning to normality after weeks of being shattered by 4k step walks.

gingerhills · 29/03/2022 22:18

I'm very envious of this. Sounds brilliant.
Stellaris22 · 30/03/2022 09:10

I have some sort of mental block with jumping, so 20 inch box jump is amazing.
