Supposed to be working but could not resist challenge of new thread title!

Thinking of you ibby! Sending LFDT vibes to you at this very moment.

backward I know that feeling of swallowing razor blades all too well - sympathies, you've had it ages haven't you?

Bad luck about the trip peach - bummer. Same for you squix with the cancelled rowing, but probably for the best, we are quite flooded locally here.

Sonichope you feel better soon.

futurity I'm sure you linked before but would you mind telling me the name of your belt/bottle thing?

Just managed a 3 mile slog through driving rain and winds, it was really hard going - huge lack of energy too at the beginning of a period, so not good - also have reluctantly cut out the carbs, as it's the only way I ever lose any weight Sad. I got in literally soaked and looking like a drowned rat. Then shred with DH.

backwardLFDTpossom · 03/01/2012 13:15

Yeah shred - I wrote 8 days on Facebook yesterday, but I was thinking about it last night and I had a sore throat on the 22nd of December, so it probably started then! Shock So that would be 12 days! Ugh...

rhetorician · 03/01/2012 13:35

am marking essays with dd2 in baby bjorn - and suspect I am not going to get to gym today - it's ok as I will definitely get out tomorrow.

Wonder how sticky got on with her 16 miler...that seems so impossible to me at the moment - but have to recall I was doing 13 miles fairly often only a couple of months ago.

Sorry about dire weather - think it's headed this way, and a lot of the north of the country is without power.

DebiTheScot · 03/01/2012 13:56

oh yipee my mum and dad have got to Kings X just as all trains to Scotland are finally cancelled and so will be heading back here! Thought I'd got my house back but not yet.

futurity · 03/01/2012 14:04

Shred this one:

stickyLFDTfingers · 03/01/2012 14:34

ibby hope it's going well.

Aaah this weather! Even on the low level route it was distinctly gusty. At one point I was attacked by a tree Shock and when it rained it was completely horizontal. But I did see a lovely rainbow when the sun came out :)

In the end I did 17.22 miles in 3 hours 10. Not exactly speedy (11:05 m/m average) but it is the longest run I have ever done :) I'm properly worn out.

stickyLFDTfingers · 03/01/2012 14:43

rhet I was thinking about you on the run, wondering how on earth you did that streak last year! That was something else. I definitely want a day off running now.

Was thinking about shred too, and how she's so very self deprecating. So give yourself a shake shred mrs - the thought of another 9 miles on top of what I did today...

N4NNY · 03/01/2012 14:43

Wow well done sticky go put your feet up and eat some chocolate now :)

rhetorician · 03/01/2012 14:47

well done sticky - that's a lot of running! 11m/m probably about right for that distance at this point in you training. Wind howling down chimneys and around the house.

Have put baby bjorn through its paces - even managed to have a wee and not wake A up!

stickyLFDTfingers · 03/01/2012 14:47

debi - it never snows but it blows... hope you get your house back soon. Presumably if they're on the train tomorrow it'll be completely jammers :( not great for such a long journey.

Thanks N4NNY I will :)

stickyLFDTfingers · 03/01/2012 14:48

:) rhet I remember perfecting those graceful crab-like movements... Slings are wonderful aren't they!

stickyLFDTfingers · 03/01/2012 14:54

ooh good luck for the ballot backwardpossum

peachLFDTsmuggler · 03/01/2012 14:57

Yes, good for the thighs Rhet!!!

sticky, that's amazing! Particularly in those conditions, well done!

Yes am pretty glad we are flying tomorrow and not training it, as will be busy busy. K been fussing all morning and waking up from catnaps so grumpy. Have now got in bed with her in hope she might have decent sleep. I could do with one too if only to get out of foul mood.

backwardLFDTpossom · 03/01/2012 15:11

Well done sticky that's a lot of miles! x

futurity · 03/01/2012 16:01

Wow Sticky..that's amazing...especially today...very impressed! Are you training for a marathon (sorry..I forget who is doing what?)

Wheelybug · 03/01/2012 16:03

Well done sticky that's a loooooong way ! I agree I have so much respect for
Marathoners.

Sorry about crappy last day peach. Am guessing any last day is going to be miserable but sounds like the weather has
Compounded it. Is it going to have settled down for your Flight home tomorrow.

Glad to hear water bottle is working well futurity - mine has been despatched so hopefully here by end of the week.

Will see if I can identify the top shred and
Have a look. Mind you I don't do much yoga - would it do other stuff?

Glad you sound on the mend possum. I'm a bit prone to tonsillitis - poor you. Good luck for GNR - maybe see you there (blind optimism on my behalf)

I am fortunate enough to be on a rest day today given the weather. Hopefully get out early or late tomorrow.

Wheelybug · 03/01/2012 16:04

And hope it went well ibby

ibbydibby · 03/01/2012 16:14

Well done sticky on your long run, and everyone else who has ventured out today...

Rhet well done on wee-with-a-sling don't think I ever even attempted anything toilety with DC in a sling.

Am back. Posted a message about an hour ago but it went...somewhere. Arrived in good time at university, this was fortunate as it took me a while to find the correct department. Of course was peeing down with rain as I trailed from building to building.....didn't help the nerves. Interview ok-ish though don't think I will be offered the job - I don't think I really "shone". There were only 3 of us, so pleased to be one of those 3. Will find out by Thursday, but not raising my hopes. V relieved it is all over, v knackered and slumped in froont of TV. Time to send a slave DC to make me a cuppa....

Anyway thanks a lot for all messages of support, much appreciated.

Least ways it's done ibby. Enjoy a nice slob on the sofa!

futurity I'm still too nesh to actually enter a marathon. I do have my eye on marathon of the north in may. Though I really fancy Kielder too, that's more a definite, but can't enter it yet. My little brother has a NY resolution of doing 3 marathons this year Shock. He is a little crazy! I want to feel more sure I can do a marathon before entering the Sunderland one. So the plan is to do a marathon training plan and see how I go. The distances are fierce though - I really felt everything after 13 miles was a struggle.

peach hope you got a bit of sleep and are feeling more yourself.

peachLFDTsmuggler · 03/01/2012 17:03

sticky, I'd say if you can do 17 miles then you can do a marathon!! However I know what you mean about confidence, I'd be the same way.

ibby, glad things went ok. Will keep everything crossed for you.

Wheely, think the forecast is better for tomorrow so we'll see. My oldest sister and her husband flew to Iceland today, and they were really lucky it wasn't cancelled.

Had little sleep, but woke up to mayhem with both Dnephews here. Nice to see them before we leave though. Love Xmas and love being here but there is always something appealing about getting back to a bit of normality and not eating chocolate for breakfast Blush

RunnersFestiveTipple · 03/01/2012 17:57

Happy New Year all. Where does the time go? One minute its the first day of the Christmas holiday, the next its back to school tomorrow. Haven't managed to catch up with the entire thread but:

Wheely - re running resolutions, mine are:
Run 500 miles - over the year not all at once, I can't imagine ever wanting to run a marathon let alone an ultra Grin
2 x HM with time improvements (depending upon keeping my bursitis at bay/under control)

Also re Sweaty Betty - lucky you! I love my headband from there - its thick at the front, narrow underneath and not only keeps sweat out of my eyes, but keeps my ears warm and earphones/sunglasses in place. www.sweatybetty.com/anna-headband-prodba0001_black/

I also have some of their big knickers for running which I find really comfortable with no riding up Blush. www.sweatybetty.com/all-sport-pant-produw003_black/

Ibby have a glass of Wine, you probably did better than you think. Fingers crossed for a good result.

Possum glad to hear you are starting to feel better.

I've hardly been out over the holidays and have spent most of the time with my face wrapped around a mince pie/chocolate/turkey sandwich/glass of prosecco, so really need to get some serious training in before Cambridge. The silver lining is that my bursitis seems to be feeling much better. Hurrah.

Children back to school/nursery tomorrow and I am so looking forward to a run.....

ibbydibby · 03/01/2012 18:02

I didn't get the job. Sad. Just got an email, in fact while talking to my mum on the phone. I hadn't told her I was going for interview, and so I had to just gulp and carry on with conversation. Still, a good experience, and I will keep trying.

hoping to run tomorrow.

OP posts:
RunnersFestiveTipple · 03/01/2012 18:21

Ibby I'm really sorry to hear that. As you say mark it down to experience and look forward to shining at the next opportunity.

Wheelybug · 03/01/2012 18:23

Oh sorry to hear that ibby. Their loss and at least they told you quickly.

Thanks for the ideas runners. £16 for a pair of pants to sweat into Grin. Hmmm. The headband looks good but I have recently been sent the Aldi one by fanny which is working well. Hmmm... I think I'm going to try and pop in to my local shop on Thursday and have a look round.

Glad things look better tomorrow peach! You need to get back for the run.

ShredMeJillianIWantToBeNatalie · 03/01/2012 18:25

Oh ibby that's a shame, good experience though for next time.

runners I have plenty of big apple catchers Grin, no floss marathongs in this house!

wheely I can't find the top, maybe it's no longer made but she bought it last summer. She uses it for circuits it's super light and very flattering. I'm always jealous when she wears it.

futurity thank I'll look that up - am a bit sick of holding my running bottle and it doesn't hold much anyway.

sticky awesome job on the 17 + miles! I would say you're easily capable of acing a spring marathon at that rate - first marathon I did 2 x 20, second I only got to 17 beforehand due to illness! I think the main benefit of going to say 20 is psychological/confidence, but also sussing out your nutrition in the second half (something I've never got right sadly). And you are too nice about my slow modest achievements, but you know for me its always been about the journey .... although seeing that finish line for the first time and thinking "bloody hell, I'm only going to bloody well do this!" is something I would recommend to anyone!
