Supposed to be working but could not resist challenge of new thread title!

OP posts:
stickyLFDTfingers · 02/01/2012 10:27

hi bonkers and a happy new year!

rhet it seems that you have the spirit of fanny within you Confused Grin good luck with the bin bags (coward that I am, I'm waiting til they're back at school before binning all those very precious cracker presents).

cherry hope you're on the move OK. Know that journey out of Devon all too well (tho at least you won't be doing it on the National Express - aaaaah, terrible memories!)

Such a beautiful day, but it is the last day of the holidays, so I don't think I can really run. Tomorrow I can, but the forecast is quite shitty Angry. Ho hum.

Good luck with the ballot wheely and anyone else who enters.... I will be there :)

rhetorician · 02/01/2012 10:56

also can't wait for dd1 to go to nursery on weds - I might actually be able to find time to wipe my own arse in peace...although she has been mostly very good

peachLFDTsmuggler · 02/01/2012 13:52

Welcome geek! I haven't used runkeeper but inspired by you I might do! Have just been looking at mapmyrun on my phone which I downloaded ages ago but never used. I dontcreally want to take my phone running, but might use it to record runs manually till I hopefully get garminified for my birthday.

Rhet, sounds like you need a run lady. Hopefully things will get a bit easier when DD1 back at nursery.

Am getting quite excited by possible run on Thursday. My plan is to get DP to take K in the pram when collecting DD1 from playgroup. I can then maybe get out for 3 miles. Whoop whoop!!!

LittleChiefRunnyCustard · 02/01/2012 14:18

I too am waiting 'til the kids are back at school and nursery before I cull annoying plastic toys. Until then I will satisfy myself with wandering around saying grr...stuff through gritted teeth.

Been for just over 5 miles this morning - it was pretty icy so felt like I was going really slowly but was actually faster than all my runs in the last couple of weeks. I think the slow running with the heart rate monitor is actually working!

stickyLFDTfingers · 02/01/2012 15:56

That sounds good littlechief!

Oooh, I can't wait to try out the HRM, you lot have really inspired me to try it out. I am hoping that it will have a dual purpose: running effectively to become fitter and faster, which seems to be what's happening to rhet and littlechief, and also reassuring me when I'm running faster that I'm not going to die! Haven't had an asthma attack for years and years, but it still bugs me that if I were to have one 10 miles from home in the middle of nowhere - what would I do? Truth is I should stop worrying: I might also be hit by an asteroid. Stupid woman.

Although no running, took the girls out for a lovely walk, lots of sunshine and mud! We're all looking much pinker now (DP went on a cycle "beasting" (don't ask, I don't want to know certainly!) and looking forward to dinner time!!

peach hope you get that run in - I wonder what it'll feel like? Brilliant just to be out by yourself I would imagine!

stickyLFDTfingers · 02/01/2012 15:58

Confused condo with DD2: me "that's lovely, is it a picture of Barney the Dinosaur?" DD2 "no, it's a picture of my school Angry"

Never guess at what the artwork is meant to depict.

ibbydibby · 02/01/2012 16:10

Sticky love your incorrect interpretation of DD's drawing of school. I did that so many times with DS1 and DS2 that I got into the habit of asking them to tell me about the drawinig (bit of a cop-out I know..). Nowadays they just don't draw - well hardly. Your walk sounds lovely!

Littlechief major decluttering also planned here once DCs back at school. Also planning a big long run, We'll see.

Welcome back Bonkers

In major panic mode due to tomorrow's impending job interview. Haven't felt this nervous in years.

OP posts:
stickyLFDTfingers · 02/01/2012 16:14

oh ibby don't be panicking. I think peach said it well further up, something like the fact you're interviewing each other to see if you're a good fit. You might dislike them more than they dislike you Wink! One has to be a bit fatalistic about these things. Also see it as a wonderful hour where you get to talk about yourself all the time :)

My Dad did this classis art mis-appreciation for DD1's ceramic effort she brought back last term:

Dad: That's lovely darling, is it a little rabbit?
DD1: No Grandpa it's Florence Nightingale Angry

We shouldhave learnt by now!

rhetorician · 02/01/2012 16:29

having fits of giggles at the artwork interpretations...dd1 and I went to the swings, ate a huge piece of carrot cake, saw a chihuahua (the pinnacle of C's festive season) and she is now under a blanket on the sofa watching Elmo Saves Christmas (the one with Maya Angelou...bizarre). I am at a loss not having watched it as a child as I don't know what all the characters are called.

Meanwhile I have been going demented trying to complete my returned driving license application...photos wrong, eyesight report missing, total pain. peach is right, I need to run!

ibbydibby · 02/01/2012 16:34

That's hilarious sticky. They do get very offended though, (DCs that is) when masterpieces are misunderstood. Slightly different, but reminds me of DS1's friend when they were in school nursery. Friend was heavily into junk modelling, and would come out virtually every day with at least 1 "creation". I asked his mum what she did with them, and she said they were displayed around the house for short period of time, then dismantled, and if in a reasonable condition, tactfully returned to nursery for re-modelling. Friend is 15 now, and probably has some other hobbies....

Thanks re interview. Am not usually the ultra nervous type.

OP posts:
Wheelybug · 02/01/2012 18:32

Good luck ibby with the interview.

LOL at art interpretation sticky. There's nothing more nerve-racking (should that have a w, spell check gave me both versions...) than being asked 'guess what it is ?'.

Went out for 5 miles this afternoon. Is my cutback week so should have been easy but DH had just run the same route so halfway through I decided to try and beat him. He beat me by 40 secs AngryGrin

Going to be tricky to fit in running this week. Dh back to work tomorrow - boo- and dd2 not back to nursery until next week - doubleboo Wink. Luckily is a cutback week so should be able Ito squeeze in some early or late 5ks.

rhetorician · 02/01/2012 18:56

a few plastic boxes from tesco, a bin liner, some sharpies and consignment of sundry items (wheelybug - the object, not the person!, rocking moose) to attic for re-use by dd2 and the rhet household is much happier. Plus I have written in various runs to my diary with a reasonable sense of expectation that I will be able to do them, which has cheered me right up.

We managed to do a family trip to tesco today, with dd2 in baby bjorn - I love those things

RunningAllDay · 02/01/2012 19:12

Good luck ibby; I hope it goes well for you. And also all the best to (I think) squix (?hope I'm right) who was hoping the NY would bring new jobs.

sticky loving the artwork comments - I asked DD2 only this morning why her bird was underwater only to be told it was a fish. And she's sensitive about it as she considers herself an 'artist'.

Felt like a REAL runner today when I ran into a shower which turned to snow, then back to driving rain. Thanks to my FABULOUS friend who took the kids for a few hours then cooked us all lunch and is going to do it again on Weds so I can have another run then. Hooray for lovely friends.

chief I was finding that the HR thing was working for me too, on the fitness side, but what is even better for me is that on hilly terrain (I don't have any other) I can measure effort properly and not pace, which still varies wildly for me. Today I did 3 miles easy, 4 miles M-effort, 1 easy, 1 hard, 1 easy. The last warm-up easy mile was the fastest of the lot (8:30! where an easy pace for me on flat might be more like 9:30-10:00), simply because it was all downhill. But I worked a helluva lot harder on the M and hard miles. I figure I'll see the results on the flat one day! Maybe someone else in a hilly place has another technique for measuring effort/pace?

DrNortherner · 02/01/2012 19:28

Hi everyone Smile Been away for a few days over new year in a cottage with friends, got a few runs in but weather was terrible. Had a very muddy run around the reservoir and a very bleak 4.5 miler out in the sticks in hail, rain and sleet. Dh kept telling me it will make me stronger as a runner!

Was getting very worried that my pace seemed to have pissed off, but managed 3.5 miles this evening with the dog at 8.5 m/m so it seems to be coming back, but think giving blood really affected me and my pace for a good few weeks.

Right back on it now though as training starts for my HM in March.

Happy New Year to you all, hope good things are in store for everyone and I look forward to hearing about all of your achievements in 2012.

sfxmum · 02/01/2012 19:49

hello quick drop by to wish ibby the best of luck at the interview

hope those in Scotland are well out of the way of the forecast blizzards or at least keep warm with properly working heating

have essay due on 5th so am hoping for quiet timeHmm but likely will need to work late into the night(s)

happy running. hoping for a wet muddy one tomorrow

squix · 02/01/2012 20:42

Hmmm - sfx I think we are out of the way of the blizzards but tomorrow is my rowing day - so I am hoping that we manage to avoid anything too stormy. I am getting increasingly nervous about it so I have stopped checking the weather forecast. We wear life jackets but I get the feeling that if any of us falls in then we'll end up pretty cold. We also stay in the harbour so should (fingers crossed) be OK.

DrNo - my pace seems to have gone as well and I don't have giving blood as a good reason - I think it's just taken a break for a couple of weeks. I just keep consoling myself with the fact that most of my runs are in the wind at the moment and I am much faster just now than i was at about teh same point last year.

Ibby - good luck with the interview, I'm sure it will be great

Running - wasn't me looking for a new job - good luck though to anyone that is.

I have just sent a few 'friends requests' on fb, just to those who seem to have lots of mutual friends that I recognise from on here . So if you get a request from 'vdc' it's me.

Right, off to dig out my waterproofs for tomorrow's adventures.

WishIwasCherryMenlove · 02/01/2012 20:45

Ibby good luck for tomorrow. Sounds a bit odd but just pretend you are confident, even if you aren't andyou will come across as so.

peach good luck on your run this week.!

Made it back from devon in record time today after all. left at 8.30 (one advantage of early waking baby!) and back by 12.30 - that's including a 40 inute stop! probably best not to tell my mum about DP's average speeds.

SO happy to be home. we were away for 10 nights in total at various relatives houses. It was a bit too much in th eend. Very happy to be slobbing out on my own sofa with DP. Just watching gullivers travels with jack black - crap film but realised it is filmed at blehheim palace so reliving the triathlon via cheesy comedy!

RunningAllDay · 02/01/2012 21:04

Apologies Blush squix - I have scrolled and scrolled and can't find who posted about lack of jobs. May be hallucinating.

Wheelybug · 02/01/2012 21:15

Running - I think it is sticky.

Good luck with the row squix

orangeLFDThead · 02/01/2012 21:21

Just a quickie (only half caught up). Good luck for interview ibby.
How exciting for your your run peach hope the plan goes well.
Did 3 miles today had to walk for a bit in middle due to asthma and stupid cough grrr. But it went better than the run on friday.

fannybanjo · 02/01/2012 21:35

Grin sticky at cocking up DD's school interpretation! However It's unfortunately the other way round in our house - DD3 wanted me to draw her a Bouncy Castle yesterday - I started with the two towers and she said "they are WILLIES!" Grin
They did look like two huge knobs.

DRNo it's down to your blood donation, you'll be fine soon enough. It's worrying though isn't it? You feel like you'll never be strong again.

rhet your girls are absolutely gorgeous, A is one of the most beautiful babies I've ever seen.

peach bloody hell love - are you going to run 3 miles straight after having a baby? Shock. Will you have to walk/run? Hope you get out - how exciting.

I hope I've got majority of you all on FB

  • its great to finally put faces and names to you all. Let me know if I have missed you out. Chief get back on there!

No running for me since Friday but hill intervals with friend tomorrow. Hmm haven't done any for weeks so not looking forward to it.

ShredMeJillianIWantToBeNatalie · 02/01/2012 21:51

Sniggering at the artistic interpretations ..... Ds1 made me a "ring holder" for my dressing table in reception out of modelling clay. Let me see if I can describe it - wide base, long thin upright section (unfortunately it was a little droopy at the top) and he had thoughtfully painted it pink and purple. Then wrapped it in crepe paper ready for Mothers Day. The TA handed it to me then turned away with her shoulders shaking with laughter Grin.

Glad some of you got out today, nothing for me as we had friends over but will be out tomorrow. Good luck for the presentation ibby!

backwardLFDTpossom · 02/01/2012 21:52

How has this thread got to 922 posts - I swear I only posted the other day when it was a new thread.

Anyhoo, have tonsillitis and haven't run for about a month. Pissed off. I bet by the time I recover enough to run there will be about 6ft of snow outside...

whinge

YeahThatsTheBadger · 02/01/2012 22:03

Not been on for a few days, so I'm trying to catch up.

Enjoy the run peach!

Good luck for your interview and presentation Ibby

Glad you're doing better orange You'll be back to normal in no time and running your usual distances/times. Hope your DH isn't suffering too much with the shingles.

Fanny I'm LT on fb.

Cherry glad you're journey back was good. I have a friend in Somerset and always forget how bad one part of the journey is. However, I do know where the speed cameras are Blush, which helps.

Wow june! You are amazing! I saw your photos on fb and you look fantastic. Well done!

Knee is feeling better so will try and get out to the gym tomorrow. Slow and steady is my plan I think. MIL's birthday tomorrow so we're all off out for dinner. My Ma is up to babysit so might see if I can sneak out to the gym in the afternoon if she gets here early. She drives me mental but helps me out so much if I ever need a babysitter!

rhetorician · 02/01/2012 22:22

DP and I sat here with tears running down our faces at the 'art'...nice to see everyone back - possum sorry you are poorly, and glad to have some supporters of the HRM approach - I've been a bit lax lately, and running at about 80% of max, but once I get back to proper mileage I'll certainly go back to it. Planning on about 7k tempo run in gym tomorrow. Bitterly cold here.

fanny - thanks. Couldn't be more different looking to yours, at least in terms of colouring! Yours also gorgeous.
