Supposed to be working but could not resist challenge of new thread title!

OP posts:
stickyLFDTfingers · 15/12/2011 09:37

oh yes, in that guardian article, in the comments after there were some suggestions about footwear in icy conditions as well.

rhetorician · 15/12/2011 09:58

thanks all - it's really only at the end of the day that it goes pear-shaped - she's a great girl - she has now compounded her difficulties by claiming that her toy smurf is a baby brother (um, like wheely she won't be getting one of those!!)

not sure what the day holds, but might get out for a run later on - a short one at least. Then will try and get a good few kms in tomorrow morning.

I went out for the evening, and you folks ran out of thread...

AngeChica · 15/12/2011 10:51

I'm chickening out of the New Years day race (thought was a big field but actually they don't get many runers so I'd just look a dickhead). Looking for an alternative in about Feb time, there is a club trip to Snake Lane 10 mile in York but the race itself has sold out :(

stickyLFDTfingers · 15/12/2011 11:13

ange there's a 10k in Ripon early Feb? I was thinking about it because of it being close to where my parents live. It is multi terrain tho, it's even called Muddy Boots!

AlmaWalkingInAWinterWonderland · 15/12/2011 12:15

Oh, I missed that Fanny. It's my birthday soon so I may ask DH to get some for me. Sticky, running along gingerly with ice sounds probable around here at some point. I'm not sure I run fast enough to slip anyway :)

I'll be finished with my 5k training plan soon and trying to decide whether I should start on a 10k plan or just upgrade to a half marathon plan. I've been feeling inspired by Team Bangs.

WishIwasCherryMenlove · 15/12/2011 13:48

ooo, Alma I like that team bangs link. Not so sure about the hidden Nike sponsorship going on, but like their page on why they run etc.

Maybe all the running baddasses here should be writing an exciting blog to get other ladies (and gents of course) out running! (although it would end up being called a rubbing and raving blog (typos from earlier threads) which might be offputting)

bonkersLFDT20 · 15/12/2011 13:56

8.55 miles in 1hr 5mins.

Amen to that!

AngeChica · 15/12/2011 14:34

That is doable sticky as long as its not x cuntry my ankle cant hack that. Have you done it before - where are your folks? I had family in Leyburn & Middleham for time but they've all migrated to Darlington Hmm.

Alma all the team Bangs look considerably cool runners :)

did you just do that time bonkers? Amazing.

AngeChica · 15/12/2011 14:35

X Country! Blush

RunningAllDay · 15/12/2011 16:15

Wow, good on you Bonkers! That's fantastic! And there I was pleased with my av 8:15 min/m over 5M (hills, but even so)... Blush Got a long way to go!

Merry xmas everyone - am off to the slopes tomorrow, so signing out for the festive season! Hope you all have a stress-free, running-rich Christmas time! Xmas Smile

N4NNY · 15/12/2011 16:43

fanny thank you very much my trax have arrived they came yesterday when I was out so just had a lovely walk to the sorting office to collect them :) would have run there really

rhetorician · 15/12/2011 16:54

running have a great break!

peachLFDTsmuggler · 15/12/2011 16:56

Oh dear Ange, your typo really made me chuckle!

Great run bonkers, that is really fast!

running, have a great time on them slopes! Happy Chrimbo!

Not achieving much today as K only really happy to sleep on me. Went to coffee shop this morning for latte and tractor tyre sized pain au raisen. After puking all over my trousers (soaked through to the pants, nice) K pooed her pants and when I went to change her she pissed everywhere soaking all her clothes. At this point I realised o didn't have any spare sleesuits with me. You get so blasé with a 3 year old, heading out with nothing more than a cereal bar and maybe a spare pair of pants, you forget all the stuff you need for a baby!!!

Bumply · 15/12/2011 17:01

Took today off as last night was works Christmas do. Didn't have too much to drink as I wanted to try a long run today.
Lovely sunny day and not very windy. Got out after lunch and thought I'd see if I could do a 10k run. Took it very easy, at one point I was ashamed to be overtaken up a hill by s

Bumply · 15/12/2011 17:05

Woops, cut short.
Overtaken by a walker! At least I was able to overtake him 15 mins later on the way down the hill. I ended up doing 11.4k in 1hr 34 min. I am well pleased with that especially when most of it was on my hilly round Arthur's seat route. No excuse for not entering a 10k race now. I presume my time is not too pathetic. It was good not feeling out of breath, it was just my legs that werent up for speed.

Bumply · 15/12/2011 17:07

Not feeling too achy or anything. Just wish I'd known my toenails needed a trim as 7 miles of bumping around in my shoes left me with tender toes.

rhetorician · 15/12/2011 17:12

bumply you have to do a 10k now! sounds lovely, your run Envy - didn't get out here today - santa visiting, christmas tree decorating etc etc. But going to do at least 13k tomorrow, assuming that I actually manage to get some sleep tonight.

peach dd2 is a right poopy pants too - the whole shite up her back experience which I don't recall from dd1. She also inevitably squits into a freshly applied nappy Xmas Angry. Ah, the joys. But she's a lovely baby - and, erm, she has been smiling for about 3 days...this shouldn't be true, but I can't deny that it is

MoshiMoshi · 15/12/2011 17:30

Hi everyone. Thanks for the new thread, ibby. Just one more day of packing which is good as I am officially beaten by this process. I have no more zest nor oomph and still have DD1 and DD2's end of term, DS's violin exam and his final footie match as well as finishing off the packing. I can't do this much longer.... Not eaten since this morning and sitting while DS has last minute violin lesson. DH has had a lovely lunch and left me to it having arrived back yesterday had a snooze declaring exhaustion. Bitter, moi? Xmas Angry

Will catch up soon. Probably from Sydney. Hopefully still sane. In the meantime, keep on keeping on.

stickyLFDTfingers · 15/12/2011 17:34

have a lovely holiday and a merry Christmas running!

Well done bumply, bonkers and running on your runs. You're a very quick lady bonkers! bumply you have to do a 10k race now, well done for breaking the back of that distance.

alma I'd go for a beginners half plan if I were you, you'll do the 10k "on the way" so to speak.

ange my DM and DD are near Bedale/Richmond in a little village. Tho if you've people in Darlo then that's not so far away. I think the race doesn't start til 11am, so plenty time to get there. I was thinking it from the other way round - it's DM's birthday the day after, so likely we'd be doing something familywise. Reckon I'd be able to persuade my brother to do it though - we could all meet up! He was keen to do the holly run which i think is Ripon as well, but I read the reviews and thought it sounded hard on the poor old ankles.

LOL at the exploding poo stories rhet and peach!

DP's bday tomorrow, so we've made a massive cake, dark chic and pistachio fudge and white choc and cranberry fudge. Sugar rush here we come! Thinkking we will share out some of the fudge as christmas presents for the neighbours. The DDs have been doing so much spoon licking I doubt they'll need tea Hmm

no running today, despite lovely sunny day - but managed to fit in a Shred. Still stuck on level 2! Should be able to get out tomorrow, if weather not too dreadful. Also helping with carol service for school, hankies at the ready (I'm not good with small children singing carols...)

stickyLFDTfingers · 15/12/2011 17:35

moshi! the very best of luck! And make sure the DH pulls his weight, you've been working your socks off. And eat, woman!

AlmaWalkingInAWinterWonderland · 15/12/2011 17:52

Thanks for the advice Sticky, that's what I thought. I'll be able to start in the New Year so that will be exciting.

Congratulations on the times Bumply, Bonkers and Running!

The Team Bangs thing is quite good, I'm not very cool and look nothing like as trendy in my gear but 'Bangs' (whose website it is) is very inspirational and passionate about running, I've found some of her posts about it really motivating. She's very committed to getting more women running which can only be a good thing really (although there is a lot of Nike!).

DD has been (re)decorating our tree today and it looks like Santa's workshop exploded. Good times.

Pouring with rain here and I've still got a nasty cough so will probably stay in tonight!

orangeLFDThead · 15/12/2011 19:04

Whats going on with mumsnet, I can't read any of the posts Hmm

orangeLFDThead · 15/12/2011 19:15

Yah we are back

orangeLFDThead · 15/12/2011 19:47

Well done bonkers thats a good time.
Have a good time running
Well done bumply, no excuses now we want to see you on that list Grin
Yum sticky that cake sounds nice Envy.
Oh peach and rhet I remember thase days well. I first moment of 'oh my word I'm a mum and I can't change my mind' was the first day out of hospital. We had just witnessed a car accident from bedroom window so ex was downstairs giving statement to the police when I decided to change ds1. As soon as I took his nappy off he pooed and weed everywhere, it all started dripping on floor (thank goodness it was laminate). Ds1 started screaming which made me start leaking quite bad. So before I knew it there was puddles of wee, poo and milk on the floor and I had a sopping wet nightie. I couldnt shout ex as he was with police. I was trying to clean up but it was very painful to bend as had cs.Ex finally came up to me crying saying I can't cope as a mum Blush. At least I can see the funny side now.

fannybanjo · 15/12/2011 21:35

Stupid app playing up so apologies, can only see most recent posts.

bonkers fantastic run!! What was the average pace, can't be arsed working it out...!

rhet hope DD1 settling bit more. Hope you get out for decent KMs tomorrow.

orange you feeling better now?

Moshi good lord, how are you coping with everything? You must be absolutely wasted.

Had a lovely day sans kids and went for lovely 7.60 mile run this morning, average pace 8.10m/m and time was 1.02. Bin trying to aim to do mid distance runs at HM race pace for a 1.45 HM so I should really have done that run in just over an hour at 8m/m but wind still quite bad on way back so hard. I did get faster through the run which is my aim. I then met my gorgeous mate in Cheshire Oaks outlet village for lunch and a shop and ended up buying my own Christmas presents! Blush. DH will wrap them though and I will open then Christmas morning with total shock on my face!

Hope everyone ok
