Supposed to be working but could not resist challenge of new thread title!

tis turning out to be a less than spectacular NYE in the rhet household - dd2 has been crying and unsettled since about 3 this afternoon - has had 2 ginormous poos - DP thinks it might be the large quantities of dairy she ate yesterday. It's unusual - dd1 was like this most of the time! makes it much harder to make proper time for dd1 though. DP's mum sitting here with me - I am sure she would be having more fun at home!

Hope that you are all doing what you want - whether revelling or slobbing and that 2012 turns out to be a fabulous year for all!

ShredMeJillianIWantToBeNatalie · 31/12/2011 22:13

Seeing in the new year here with a nice strong cuppa!

peach we are bloody awesome on here aren't we? Big kiss to you all, no tongues, mind ...... thank you all for making me think about "stuff", for educating me hugely about running, and most of all for making me cry with laughter Grin.

Goals:

Sub 30 5k
Sub 60 10k
Have more time Wink with DH.

And that's it. I'm not so fussed about distance, but I'd like my 9 minute miles back .

peachLFDTsmuggler · 31/12/2011 22:21

Aww rhet, hope DD2 has a more settled night. I know what you mean about it being difficult to make time for DD1, I feel like I really miss her. I mean we're in the same room most of the time, but I miss the one to one time we usually have.

We are spending Hogmanay watching Alan Carr while DP photoshops a picture if himself sailing with two mice. All part of an elaborate ruse with DD1 involving various mice phone calls this evening Hmm

RunningAllDay · 31/12/2011 22:42

Finally - they all seem to be asleep. Girls have sleepover dates and the thumping upstairs has finally stopped. Can safely celebrate NY with a cup of green tea and the rest of the chocs on the tree. My own goals for next year involve mainly trying to be nice to my family, to whom I was a bit of a hag this Xmas (mostly because I felt crap and couldn't get out running, which was not their fault!). Also a 10k in which I don't disgrace myself, a PB for a HM and a marathon in which I don't die which considering it is 8 weeks away and I can barely run 3 miles without having a coronary is a distinct possibility

Good luck tonight rhet, hope you get some sleep before midnight! And v sorry to hear about family issues orange - I hope 2012 brings some better health for you all.

Hope you all get all the running and other joy you wish for in 2012. Thanks for being an inspirational group of (mainly) ladies!

RunningAllDay · 31/12/2011 22:43

Mice, peach? Peculiar familt tradition or is there some connection between ny and mice?

ibbydibby · 31/12/2011 22:57

Peach, am dying to hear more about mice, DP and DD1.

Rhet hope DD2 settles down tonight. Am sure that DP's mum happy to be with you all.

Over and out until 2012..

OP posts:
rhetorician · 31/12/2011 23:20

yes, nonplussed by the mice as well (mind you, dd1 firmly believes that you can expel monsters through the cat-flap by means of farts, so it could just be a 3 year old thing)

dd2 still monstrously unhappy - it brings back all the misery of dd1's babyhood; am desperately trying to hold on to my sanity.., and secretly hoping that she will be so knackered tomorrow that I might manage 7 miles...

right, I'm going now - raise a festive glass or two for me, think I am going to take to my bed

peachLFDTsmuggler · 31/12/2011 23:58

DP had some squeaky shoes which of course meant they were inhabited by mice. DP and DD discussed this at length today in car, inspired by squeaky windscreen wipers. DP spent evening phoning DD on my phone and playing "mice" down phone (Xmas stocking mice singing we wish you a merry Xmas). Yes, the hours do fly by in the peach household Hmm

Am in bed before the bells Blush

ShredMeJillianIWantToBeNatalie · 01/01/2012 00:17

Happy 2012 all!

sfxmum · 01/01/2012 00:18

peach sounds like your Dh is my DJ's long lost twin Grin it is just the sort of thing he would do

dh insisting on popping the cork, oh well I guess I must have a glass then

hope the babies sleep soundly

sfxmum · 01/01/2012 00:19

DH not DJ as it happens I don't have a personal DJ following me around providing me with a soundtrack Hmm

ShredMeJillianIWantToBeNatalie · 01/01/2012 10:49

Morning all!

Who's claiming the first run of 2012? I'm out for one later this afternoon.

N4NNY · 01/01/2012 10:57

Haha sfx just sat for ages trying to work out what a 'DJ' was along line of DH or DP then scrolled on (am on phone) to see you ment DH rofl I can't even blame it on a hang over.

Happy new year every one I just plan to increase my miles this year if I can get faster that would be great too but I'm happy being a tortoise slow and steady.

DebiTheScot · 01/01/2012 11:15

Me me do I win? Ds1, my mum, friend & I did parkrun this morn.
Ds1 did 1 lap (2.5k) and he was amazing! Furthest he'd run before was about 1.2 miles and he did 1.5 miles today in 15:39!!
I felt fine apart from a bit of tummy cramping on lap 2 so didn't speed up too much (I ran with ds on lap 1) and finished in 29:15 I think.

Oh and Happy New Year everyone Smile

orangeLFDThead · 01/01/2012 11:20

I was trying to figure out what DJ was too.
Rhet hope you have a better day with dd2 and you get out for your 7 miles.
It now looks like dh had shingles, I am actually laughing because I just can't believe it. Poor dh may have to pamper him today.

rhetorician · 01/01/2012 11:25

debi I think you do! well done you, and well done ds!
futurity yes it comes out at about 35 miles a week (so one long 12 + 2 x 7 + 2 x 5), although if I am training seriously for 10k then half I imagine my weekly mileage might top that

dd2 slept for hours last night, could barely wake her up for a feed after her 9 hour crying jag. Almost certainly digestion. Hoping it's not the start of colic (she is 4 weeks today - eek)

hoping to get out to do about 12k this afternoon - always fun running on New Year's Day with the hungover/new resolution runners - good luck to them I say, I always try and wave and smile and be encouraging, as we all have to start somewhere.

DP bought me some Teko running socks for Christmas - they are just the best socks I have ever run in - even better than Smartwool. Pricey though - here

rhetorician · 01/01/2012 11:29

shingles. orange? nasty..

sfxmum · 01/01/2012 12:39

orange ouchy shingles. sorry about the tension with DB, family can be such hard work

debi very good, how old is DS1? dd is very keen but she is still only 6, she loved the 5K charity jog/walk, her school running club only takes older children for obvious reasons

rhet here is hoping it is not colic and that things settle. socks looks very good.
Good thing to encourage new runners, most runners I 'meet' out and about are very friendly

I should have a hangover but am actually quite clear headed, no running just a walk along the river to KewG wander about then back home, we all got up late and are taking it easy

LittleChiefRunnyCustard · 01/01/2012 13:02

Oh Dear - poor Orange's DH - hope it doesn't get too sore.

We have been out this morning to watch the nutters jumping into the harbour. About 300 if them in various modes of dress. It does look strangely fun though.

No running here today - feeling another cold coming on so going to take it easy.

I'm not going to make any resolutions as I am terrible at setting unattainable goals then beating myself up for not reaching them.

Happy New Year to you all!

Wheelybug · 01/01/2012 13:15

Poor dh and you orange.

Well down Debi - you beat me to it Grin.
I just ran back from our friends where we stayed the night - about 5.75 miles. Was a bit hard.... Too much to drink last night, bed at 2 am didn't make for good preparation. But done. Brings my weekly mileage to 27 this week. The most I've ever done - wow to you rhet on 35 miles a week and increasing ! I think mines going to peak around 28/29 for this half - can't fit anymore in.

No new years resolutions here I don't think other than to keep running !

Here's hoping for a fantastic 2012 for all of us !

DebiTheScot · 01/01/2012 14:18

sfx he's 5 1/2. Is desperate to do the full 5k but he wouldn't manage it and I don't think he should be running that far. I know there are recommendations on how far kids should run at what ages so I'll have a look & see what they say.

sfxmum · 01/01/2012 14:37

That is fantastic debi we both want to start doing parkrun regularly and it would be great to take dd along even if just to watch

ShredMeJillianIWantToBeNatalie · 01/01/2012 14:48

So I fund out last night on facebook we are definitely getting a parkrun - 14th January, but not sure yet exactly where. See you there cherry?

ibbydibby · 01/01/2012 14:49

Well done to DS, and you Debi!. Why don't you just let DS go a bit further next time - ie do the lap and then a bit? I'm not sure of recommended distances for children, but think the other disadvantage of too much too soon is that he is likely to get bored. At that age they are built for speed rather than distance. So maybe encouraging him to improve his time for 1 lap would help?

Spent morning marshalling at our club's NYD 10k. Good turn-out, now knackered though. All that standing around is hard work!

Orange sorry about DH.

Rhet fingers crossed for not colic.

sfxmum · 01/01/2012 14:56

When I get to my laptop I will link the guidance for children but think about a mile is the recommended distance until about 8, race wise
