RunningAllDay · 14/12/2011 22:06

Am in tears again. I wanted to adopt every one of those children in the Panorama prog this evening. Am I just hormonal, or does being a mum make you really soft? I can't watch anything about neglected or sad children or even happy children without losing it.

RunningAllDay · 14/12/2011 22:06

And thanks for the new thread ibby [sniff]

Running I have been working this evening but thought that if I watched Panorama I would have wanted to adopt them. I think being a parent (not just a mum) makes you feel protective on behalf of other children.

fannybanjo · 14/12/2011 22:17

O cannae watch sad programmes pet. (trying to be Geordie...)

fannybanjo · 14/12/2011 22:18

Shit keep meaning to add my marathon BUT I'm NEVER on the computer. Unless its me live sex show then I have to be. Wink

peachLFDTsmuggler · 14/12/2011 22:20

Oh god no, am the same. Can barely handle the news anymore. DP is the same. Massively more emotional than he was pre-DDs.

fannybanjo · 14/12/2011 22:21

Actually what with peach mentioning about the bondage Trax, I'm thinking I can add them into the show somehow.

fannybanjo · 14/12/2011 22:21

I'm discussing sex shows and youse lot whining about adopting kids! I'm fucking off me!

orangeLFDThead · 14/12/2011 22:28

Thanks for thread ibby, I was starting to panic where you had all gone but found you now, phew Grin
Ah rhet sorry you had a bad few hours. Whenever I had times like that when the boys were little, it helped a little bit to remind myself that it is all part of normal development and actually reassuing that they are developing they own free will and learning how to express thier emotions (obviously still needs boundaries to help them develop them in the right way). Although stressful them acting like that its more reassuring then a child who sits docile or does not express emotions or they own free will. It does not make the problem go away but it helped me get through by putting a bit of a positive slant on it and thinking thank goodness they are normal Smile.
Hope both neck and tummy feeling better soon futurity
I'm the same *running, but did'nt see the program tonight.
Just been to see boys in school show, very proud of them both Smile. Although all the parents perfumes set my astma off quite bad so ended up being sat with teachers near open window Blush.

WishIwasCherryMenlove · 14/12/2011 22:34

Signing in

I watched the panorama program too. So sad. That mum at the end who hadn't seen her kids for four years, then had half an hour with them Sad

Wheelybug · 14/12/2011 23:11

Signing in.....

Yeah. peach I knew that ..... Best not admit I am more welsh than anything else. Both lovely names... Ahem

futurity glad some improvement in your pain in the neck. Ho ho. Hope it gets properly better soon.

No decent advise rhet, although repeating the mantra 'this too shall pass' generally helps me. My dd1 was quite a bit older when dd2 was born which was a good thing for us - she knew what it was all about and had been desperate for a sister so she was quite easy. Mind you, she's now decided she wants a brother ..... She won't be getting one.

Right must off to bed. Mind you 'this too shall pass' is not bearing up under the strain of dd2 and her inability to sleep. Ah well, maybe when she's 3 Grin

monkeyLFDTwench · 14/12/2011 23:39

Ah, so here you all are - hiding from me.

No running today or tomorrow - no time. Have to hang round school for a few hours tomorrow (WHY is the last day always a half day?!) then off to see Kasabian at the O2.

Goodnight all, off to get some "beauty" sleep .....

fannybanjo · 15/12/2011 07:12

Oh monkey enjoy Kasabian. My SIL sang backing vocals on one of their albums.

I'm knackered, supposedly doing an 8 miler today, 5 miler tomorrow and 20 miler on Sunday but I'm going to knock today's 8 miler down to a 6 I think.

DebiTheScot · 15/12/2011 07:37

I almost cried in assembly yesterday as they showed the John Lewis advert.

AlmaWalkingInAWinterWonderland · 15/12/2011 07:59

Rhet, my DD was a bit odd for a few weeks after DS was born, she was only 22 months and ignored him almost completely for the first 6 weeks but would have outbursts of being very difficult to handle. It did pass eventually but it was hard work.

I can't watch anything with vulnerable children without wailing either, I didn't see Panorama but just hearing about it on Facebook made me well up.

Still nursing a cold here so not sure I'll be going out today, although our weekend weather looks a bit shocking so may have to adjust plans for a little bit! What's good to put on trainers to keep your grip? I've heard of Trax, are they good?

bonkersLFDT20 · 15/12/2011 09:27

Phew.....found you. Felt a bit bereft for a minute.

I posted the link to the Guardian winter running article, but it wasn't me who found it. Credit where credit's due and all that.

How far shall I run today? 5.7, 7 or 8?

fannybanjo · 15/12/2011 09:33

Oh bonkers g'awn, do an 8, lucky number in Japan (or is it China....?Hmm)

fannybanjo · 15/12/2011 09:34

Alma I bought a shit load of Trax last week and sent them out to loads on this thread as they had them in Costco, did you not read about it? Not used them yet! Supposed to be ok I think but how fast you can truly run in them, I have no idea.

fannybanjo · 15/12/2011 09:35

Shed load not shit. Sheesh, even my iPhone is correcting non-swear words now. Blush

stickyLFDTfingers · 15/12/2011 09:35

where are all the runners gone, where are all the runners gone? there they are! Thanks ibby

On the subject of adopting children - in our local Sainsburys there are adverts to adopt children on the petrol pumps. I find that really odd, would someone really suddenly decide to adopt when filling up? Confused

rhet all sounds exhausting, poor you. Just keep doing what you're doing, trying to keep things as regular as you can. It should all settle down. Your poor DD1 does have a lot to deal with with the new baby, the visitors, and Christmas coming up too (just the last one seems to sending mind into orbit Hmm), so I think the best advice is to try not to take it personally, try to keep calm, and have a nice Wine to settle yourself down (any time after 11am is fine Grin).

alma you must have come onto the thread just after fanny was doing her trax-angel thing. I have some yaktrax, but it's not yet been icy enough to use them. So far I've just minced/tiggywinkled along on the slippery pavements and tried to get off road as soon as possible. It makes everything into interval training, as I feel the need to sprint as soon as I have good footing to make up for the slow bits where I've been trying not to fall over!
