Supposed to be working but could not resist challenge of new thread title!

Just trying to give myself a kick up the backside to get out this morning - not in the mood. I've seriously lost my mojo, but am thinking a short pathetic run is better than no run at all. Will multi task by taking the equally lazy dog with me Smile.

Then, deep joy, trip to town for pottery painting. DH's parents are impossible to buy anything for, but they do at least seem to like hand painted tat from their grandchildren ......

fannybanjo · 17/12/2011 11:35

Oh monkey I felt the sand this week but have since done two great runs. Just go out, you never know, you may enjoy it! I LOVE pottery painting however wasn't chuffed with the £150 spent doing it in Center Parcs... Hmm

Bloody hell DrNo what speed were you doing the hills at?! You shouldn't be wanting to throw up! Are they very steep?

ibbydibby · 17/12/2011 11:47

DrNo would you consider Travelodge type place? My DSIS has stayed in one at Gants Hill (Ilford) and it was reasonably quiet. Not far from Redbridge underground station on the Central Line, and from there about 4 or 5 stops to Stratford. Approx £60 for a room I think.

Did parkrun this morning, struggled to get there as roads so icy, fortunately DH had decided to do it so he drove! Running route was quite icy so times slower than normally, plus not used to running in close to zero temperatures (by the time we left display in car was showing 1.5 degrees C....). My time was almost 2 minutes slower than the PB I did about 4 or 5 weeks ago. A bit frustrating, but as today is first time I have done parkrun since then, and because of icy conditions, I am quite happy with it.

Hope your dc better soon runners. Yeap always middle of night or middle of resturant.
Hope both the babies are ok, not nice having colds when so little. We used to put something under head end of mattress to raise it a little. Makes it a bit easier for them to breath when sleeping.
Glitter and paint on a nice day was only allowed to be used in the garden. On not nice day I had a big plastic sheet I think I got from ikea which after they had finshed got folded up taken to the garden for a good shake. Infact just been doing a bit of spring cleaning. I could not bring myself to throw away the paint, glitter, colured feathers, googly eyes etc as have so many fond memories of making stuff with boys. But they are just not interested now. So I have put them in a box incase we have any young visitors.
Our parkrun was cancelled this morning as too icy. Not that I would of been going with this cough.

DrNortherner · 17/12/2011 14:37

ange yeah would consider the muddyboots, how about you?

fanny the hills were a mixture of long and gently undulating, and short and steep. We had to sprint up the short one, turn right, sprint up another short one, then turn left and run up the long undulating one, get to the top, turn round and recovery jog back to the bottom x 5 times. It was like running through treacle....

ibby yes I would consider a travelodge definately. Will check it out. Thanks.

fannybanjo · 17/12/2011 15:40

Oh DrNo that sounds horrendous! How fast were you running up them?

futurity · 17/12/2011 17:57

(wanders in a gibbering wreck) ..if I don't do some running soon I may go mad ...or have to buy larger clothes as I am eating too much (wanders out eating a cake)

sfxmum · 17/12/2011 18:08

you and me mate futurity although not so much with the eating
must catch up at some point tonight

orangeLFDThead · 17/12/2011 18:23

I'm the same. Really fancy a chippy tea tonight. So sending dh off to chippy. When the cough finally goes I am going to have to run like the wind to burn off all this comfort food Im eating and no excerise, thats if I have not forgotten how to run Smile. [Wonders how many calories constant coughing and heaving burns]. Hope you feeling better soon.

rhetorician · 17/12/2011 19:02

perhaps we should re-title the thread 'non-runners united'? I feel totally bleurgh on my current mileage even though any thing more is unrealistic given toddler and newborn (toddler with ear infection - again, and newborn with cough)...but I so miss getting out and it kind of breeds, the inactivity, doesn't it? Hoping to get 3 runs in next week, and then try to fit in a half an hour here and there. Hopefully A will settle into a routine of sorts (I think she will) and then I'll be able to head out from time to time

orangeLFDThead · 17/12/2011 19:06

I bet peach is rolling her eyes at us moaning about not running for a week or two, when she not ran for a good few months. Sorry peach Grin

rhetorician · 17/12/2011 19:10

yeah, sorry peach...but she at least had a good reason, not a crappy sickness related one

WishIwasCherryMenlove · 17/12/2011 19:13

Oh goodness I am definitely also not managing runs at the mo also! Feeling a bit tense about it too! I don't even have an excuse of a proper cold or newborn!

Planning 5 to 6 miles for Sunday, shall we collectively pledge to get our arses out tomorrow?

rhetorician · 17/12/2011 19:25

as this non-running chat is going on I have had a sudden vision of moshi dedicatedly running laps of some airport in the far east...

AngeChica · 17/12/2011 19:42

Talking of chippies... Lovely coastal run today - figured would be less icy - managed 9 miles & very happy with that. I parked here. well, it would be rude to refuse, wouldn't it?

My aim is to keep my miles over 20 a week and keep increasing that in the new year. My club do a winter series and this has been a good incentive for trying to speed up too.

I think the Muddy Boots would be fun but would it be risking injury ahead of the VLM? I will be getting paranoid by then :).

fannybanjo · 17/12/2011 19:42

I have to say that during my pregnancies, I didn't once put a pair of trainers on and do a run, I used it as a total excuse to not worry as I knew it would be the only time in my life where I let myself eat what I wanted etc.

rhet hope you get out as I agree, you go stir crazy. Same to futurity and orange - hope you both feel better very soon.

20 miler planned for tomorrow. I am bricking it. No idea how it will go as weather not great and it is one of those things that all depend on how you feel on the day. The 18 miler was brilliant but can't see this one being quite as easy... has to be done though if I want to become a marathoner.

orangeLFDThead · 17/12/2011 19:47

That place looks nice ange

AlmaWalkingInAWinterWonderland · 17/12/2011 19:51

I just did my first 3 miles on a solo run. I wanted to see how long it would take so planned a route and went out. 41 minutes, which I know isn't great (13.35mins/mile I know) but I feel very pleased with myself. I normally do 3 minutes running, 1 minute walking at the moment but didn't stop running from 24 minutes in because I felt OK. There's a climb of about 700ft at one point which was very hardgoing but got up it OK :) I'm getting a sportband thing for Christmas so I will be able to check my progress a bit more easily. Last run was on Tuesday and I was itching to get out today.

Hope everyone manages to get out for a run soon, it's so frustrating when you can't. All this talk of chippies is making me hungry! I'll have to send DH out for one tomorrow :)

orangeLFDThead · 17/12/2011 19:56

Well done alma, I'm not jeaslous really Smile. Chips were lovely. Dh and boys now watching Laurel and Hardy, I just can't watch them I find it frustrating

rhetorician · 17/12/2011 20:05

alma - as the americans say, 'great job'...well done, there'll be no stopping you now. Just keep stretching out that 24 mins - 26 - 28. You'll soon be running for an hour and then your times will get faster...continuous running is what you are aiming for, and you have got there! Well done!

like orange I am Envy and wish I had run 3 miles today. The less you go out, the longer the distances seem, too

DebiTheScot · 17/12/2011 21:03

Well done alma Going from normally running for just a few minutes to tackling a 700ft hill is very impressive.

Glad to see I'm not the only one not doing much running at the moment. Glad I got out yesterday though as I didn't think I would.
Shattered today. Had a really good night last night and it was so nice to not be clockwatching all evening and working out when we'd have to leave to get home for the babysitter. Then we had a long lie and a nice fry up this morning before going to our friends who'd had the boys overnight for lunch and a lovely afternoon.

stickyLFDTfingers · 17/12/2011 21:38

holidays have only just started and I already feel like I'm totally out of the loop (but not yet a fruit loop, that'll be next week ;))

Also no running for me. DD1 was ill last night, so we were both a bit out of it today. I'm just shredding for maintenance. Not exactly like a 20 mile run, but at least it's something.

ange what a lovely place for a run!

alma well done! It sounds like you're going really well, improving your fitness all the time. Have you picked out a plan to follow?

fanny hope your 20 miler tomorrow is enjoyable. Looks like it will be very icy tomorrow (our way anyway) so will you be in your snotrax?

One of the weird things that happened in my first pregnancy was that I couldn't eat anything fatty (was a great diet!). I've not been able to stomach chips since. It's very sad. :(

peachLFDTsmuggler · 17/12/2011 22:23

Sounds like a lovely night out Debi!

aww thanks orange, am very grateful to have such a lovely reason not to run! Had forgotten how frustrating it is trying to get them to sleep! Tried dummy again but not sure she wants it. Do you have to persevere with them for a while???

Did you get out there monkeychops??

fanny, now am thinking of your house as some sort of Aladin's cave!!

peachLFDTsmuggler · 17/12/2011 22:31

You can't eat chips sticky???? flip!

Well done alma, you're doing great! Keep on keeping on!

Good luck with your 20 miles fanny

AlmaWalkingInAWinterWonderland · 17/12/2011 22:32

Thanks for the encouragement all :) I love feeling fitter, it keeps taking me by surprise at this point. I've decided to start a half marathon plan in the New Year either the one from 'Running Made Easy' or the 'Just Get Me Round' plan from Runner's World. They both seem very similar so not sure there's much to choose between really.

Glad you had a good night out Debi, sounds fun :)

Enjoy your run tomorrow Fanny!

Not being able to eat chips must be quite hard, I'd miss them like crazy. Good for a diet though!
