All ye fine runners who wish to get together to discuss running-related topics, or otherwise, come and join us here. We are a friendly and incredibly supportive group of runners, varying in ability, but all bonded together by a common theme of loving running, committed to squeezing it into our busy lives and wanting to improve our own PBs. So whether you are a full-time mum, part-time working mum, full-time working mum, working from home mum, mum who is studying, or even a dad Grin, add your race to the list so you can be sure of some moral support and advice along the way. And if you aren't racing, don't worry as you can enjoy the race reports and race vicariously.

Have fallen off the thread a little - and not done much running either! Though managed just over 12 miles this morning so quite pleased with that. Since HM (2.5 weeks ago) have only been to running club once (training is twice a week) and been out for one solo run. So chuffed that I hauled myself out today - I just wanted to test myself out as keen to enter 10 mile race on Sunday! Weather was windy (again) but sunny - gorgeous. Whoever said a day or 2 ago that they had a sore arse - can I join the club please.

Lack of running in recent days due to concerts (DS1), colds (mine) and other family stuff. Sadly my sister's MIL died at end of last week, so family get-together that was going to take place at my sister's was switched to our house. So mega cooking/cleaning/tidying session for most of weekend. Funeral next week, sadly same date as my dad's funeral 22 years ago Sad

Fanny, what's up?

How are the babies, Rhet and Peach?

Alma belated welcome - running pub sounds great!

peachLFDTsmuggler · 13/12/2011 15:06

Oooh yes, running pub sounds fun!

Sounds like a good run bumply, am interested to know did you make your own hat?

Hope the concert goes well monkey

ibby, so sorry to hear about your sister's MIL, sounds like it will be a sad day next week for you all.

fanny wassup sister??? Snowtrax have arrived!!! Thank you so much. Is it just me or do they look like they belong in the bondage section!!!???

Registered baby today so she is officially Kate Arwen (which was my first choice for first name). She has been difficult to get down for sleep last couple of days so am taking path of least resistance and got her in sling which works brilliantly. Had limited success getting her into cot last night so think I might try once st start of night, when she seems to sleep for about an hour and then bring her into bed, with view to extending that first sleep somehow! Had limited succeeds with dummy and am a wee bit wary using it just now till bf established so might leave it till after Xmas.

fannybanjo · 13/12/2011 16:25

Sorry dead quick one as on bog before tempo run.... Grin. Nowts up other than Christmas bloody gets in the way of my obsessive marathon running schedule, Garmin playing up and all I seem to be dealing with is screeching and whinging bin lids and fucking Mickey Mouse wrapping paper...Hmm. Sorry for mememe post, I'll be on later to do catch up!

stickyLFDTfingers · 13/12/2011 17:38

well done on getting out and doing a long run ibby. Takes dedication in the winter. Sounds like it's a sad time for your family :(

peach why does it not surprise me that fanny has sent you bondage snowtrax? Wink. And Hello Kate Arwen! I was a great believer in slings, seemed very natural to me.

fanny sympathies! I'm wondering whether I'm going to get a quick one in tomorrow morning. Have people coming for lunch. Probably I should spend the time scrubbing and tidying, but OTOH I will be a much nicer person if I get 6 miles in first...Confused. I thought I had Friday free, but not any more - then it's the holidays Shock. I haven't scheduled anything for those 2 weeks, just see if i can manage getting out when I can.

Running pub Grin sounds ideal!

monkeyLFDTwench · 13/12/2011 17:53

Made it out of Dumpstable in one piece! Got soaked on the way back though stopping for petrol, the car was running on fumes Grin.

Just enjoying a nice strong cuppa while gently encouraging the writing of Christmas cards ....

ibby sorry about your sister's MIL. And of course your dad. This time last year on the way back from the carol concert I got a phone call that a friend had died. She had breast cancer but looked like she was winning the fight. She left two sons - 7 and just 10 months. Christmas is just such a shit time to grieve for family. I hope the funeral goes as well as it can. peach how's your dad, will you see him at Christmas?

Bumply · 13/12/2011 18:47

Peach, no the hat was crocheted by my ex's wife. Can't remember if it was made for me or ds1. She seems to be an obsessive knitter
/crochet person. I have socks, scarf and ds1 has various hats and a cover for his mobile phone all made by her.

orangeLFDThead · 13/12/2011 19:07

I'm so sorry about sister's mil ibby.
Sorry about your friend too monkey
Grin at fanny sending you bondage stuff peach, typical
Cough seems to be getting worse and feeling quite breathless today. My peak flow has also dropped so upping my inhalers. If not feeling much better tomorrow might try and get in at docs. But feeling very frustrated just want to go out and run.

MoshiMoshi · 13/12/2011 19:10

Fuckety fuckety fuck. I may only resurface when over in San Fran. It's all a bit stressful here. So happy Christmas one and all and have a super new year.

orangeLFDThead · 13/12/2011 19:12

Good luck with everything moshi

rhetorician · 13/12/2011 19:56

good luck moshi - we look forward to the Californian dispatches...

thread baby no. 2 is doing well - public health nurse was supposed to come and weigh her today, but coming tomorrow instead Hmm; she was awake for a good bit of the morning today, but has been totally zonked since about 2.30 - DP woke her to feed and that's about it. Am hoping that this doesn't mean that we are going to pay dearly tonight - we've had 2 good nights.

Probably we are, as I am hoping to run to work tomorrow (the 15k route)...the DDs dad will be here, so he is (I hope) going to take DD1 to see santa

My work xmas do is tomorrow evening, and as he is here I should be able to go to that. This 2 kids lark is hard work...

sfxmum · 13/12/2011 20:19

hello quick drop by to wish moshi good luck

will try and catch up properly later

fannybanjo · 13/12/2011 20:56

ibby sorry about your sister's MIL.

peach glad they finally arrived!! Grin at bondage gear - the thought hadn't entered my head... Wink.

runningallday well done on 19 miles! I did similar couple of weeks ago,I found it similar to you in that it's the achy legs which get to you.

rhet 2 kids are far harder than 1, the hardest jump of all is 1 to 2. Things will be one more organised and normality will set in within a few weeks. If you consider that at least you can still run whereas DP can't do anything for a while then that'll take a bit of pressure off the running routine, it's nigh on impossible to keep to a strict plan. You're doing well even getting your trainers on! Hope you have a good night tonight. Oh yes - HRM.... My maximum is late 190's. I can't quite get the hang of the lower zones but I'm using it still and aiming to sticky to around 60-70% on LSR but factors like the horrific wind we are having are making runs harder than usual. Hmm

Moshi. Good luck pet and Happy Christmas to you, your DH and the Moshettes. Hope things are ok.

orange hope you're feeling better.

monkey hope DS2 got over the shitty episode with classmate.

Tempo run tonight. Shit shit shit run. Garmin was low on battery so kept beeping. Wind horrid. Fanny pack was threatening to run off on its own two legs. Have chaffing on under carriage area from all my longer runs. Fucked off with running today. Anyway 3.5 miles average 7.40m/m. Heart rate probably through the roof but think around average 180.

Losing my running mojo ladies. Don't feel like I'm enjoying it past few runs. Think I feel under pressure cos of races coming up.

MoshiMoshi · 13/12/2011 21:01

fanny - tis stress affecting running. I am running really badly and I have been told that it is typical when under stress so if Christmas/races is all a bit much, don't be surprised if it affects your running.

Missing you all loads but (in the words of Arnie) I'll be back! Grin

OP posts:
fannybanjo · 13/12/2011 21:04

monkey Sad about your friend. How awful.

DebiTheScot · 13/12/2011 21:05

bumply your exes wife knits for you? That seems odd! Loving the sound of a crocheted phone cover Grin

fanny maybe you need a couple of weeks off. We all lose the enthusiasm from time to time.

What's a normal max heart rate? I tried measuring mine after circuits tonight (very hardcore tonight) and I think it was somewhere round 220-240 which seems very high. Hard to count at that speed tho!

fannybanjo · 13/12/2011 21:19

Moshi my stress re Christmas in comparison to what your having to do it laughable! I agree though, some of us can run better when under stress, some don't. I can't have loads of things running through my head when I'm out, I just can't focus properly. I think it's trying to fit it in around nativity, carol services, Christmas parties and buying and wrapping a million presents which is bothering me! Control freak you see.

Debi Wash your mouth out! Two weeks off...!? I'd DIE! Wink. I was out running last Xmas Eve in 3 inches of snow and -10 degrees. I just don't think I could ever take a break unless it's forced on me. Blush Maybe I should....

NAH can't do it.

fannybanjo · 13/12/2011 21:20

How's everyone doing re Xmas? You all organised?

RunningAllDay · 13/12/2011 21:25

Oh monkey that's awful. Poor kids.

Debi if I read correctly, don't think there is a 'normal' for any heart. 220 minus your age, or 210 minus half is used as an apporximation but it seems everyone is very different. I have never seen mine above 173 (and I thought I was about to die), but I have a friend who regularly reaches 220.

fanny sorry to hear you've lost your mojo. I blame the weather, and I felt like you did after my last tempo run too. Have a nice long one in some sunshine and the reason for doing it might come back!

moshi all the very best for Xmas!

Have fallen in love with my DDs again tonight. They are just so kind and sweet and thoughtful. I don't want them to get any older!

fannybanjo · 13/12/2011 21:30

Yes agree re heart rate estimation of 220 minus age is bollocks. Everyone's different. My friend who runs par on par with me has a slightly higher resting heart rate but her max heart rate is around 184. We are the same age.

orangeLFDThead · 13/12/2011 21:39

Sorry you had a bad run fanny.
Did your dd's do anything particular running or was it just one of them moments?

RunningAllDay · 13/12/2011 21:51

orange Nothing terribly specific - they're just lovely! Not biassed, obviously... Yesterday my DD2 (aged 5) said she didn't want anything for her birthday as she had so many things and didn't need anything else, and couldn't her birthday guests (her b'day is in January) give the presents to children who didn't have enough things? Made me cry.

Lucky you bumply with the crochet-happy donor... there are some lovely patterns out there for shrugs and tops for summer if you want to drop her a hint! I am trying to teach myself but it makes my eyes hurt.

fannybanjo · 13/12/2011 21:56

Ah bless running your DD sounds lovely! My little sods will count theirs on Xmas morning in style of Veruca Salt and exclaim that I ain't bought them the random present they asked for in utero.

RunningAllDay · 13/12/2011 22:01
Grin
bonkersLFDT20 · 13/12/2011 22:03

Sheesh, this fell off my "topics you're on" list as I've not posted for so long. Had to go trawl through all the topics to find you again.

Managed to go for a run today! Yip. Wasn't going to go because DS2 had his nursery singsong from 3-5 and I was meant to be working today, but managed to get in early, run at lunch time, go to the singsong for an hour and do some work as well. AND I've written 10 cards from Phase 3 of Xmas card writing.

Haven't finished Xmas shopping yet, nor started wrapping up and we're going away over the holiday period. Oh well, it will get done, it always does.

Now to catch up with all the rubbing you lot have been doing.....

N4NNY · 13/12/2011 22:04

Good luck with the move moshi
