MoshiMoshi · 29/11/2011 09:04

All ye fine runners who wish to get together to discuss running-related topics, or otherwise, come and join us here. We are a friendly and incredibly supportive group of runners, varying in ability, but all bonded together by a common theme of loving running, committed to squeezing it into our busy lives and wanting to improve our own PBs. So whether you are a full-time mum, part-time working mum, full-time working mum, working from home mum, mum who is studying, or even a dad Grin, add your race to the list so you can be sure of some moral support and advice along the way. And if you aren't racing, don't worry as you can enjoy the race reports and race vicariously.

Some elderly woman has been hurt by a chimney in possible tornado just near me, just down the road from my work Shock

MoshiMoshi · 29/11/2011 18:11

Very excited for you rhet, will be checking obsessively tonight just in case - wouldn't surprise me Wink.

sfx we had tea at the Ritz once, it was lovely but we did feel like the poor relations as MIL and FIL had insisted on dressing up to the nines. I also embarrassed them on one of those Orient Express lunch trips by using by butter knife to cut my roll Shock.

orange just took me an hour to drive back from school there had been an accident - looked very serious. Good luck for your appointment by the way, did you say next Tuesday?

backwardLFDTpossom · 29/11/2011 18:21

Good luck to you and DP, rhet! X

peachLFDTsmuggler · 29/11/2011 18:26

Thanks for the new thread Moshi, good luck single parenting for the next few weeks, hope it goes ok!!!

Ooh Rhet, how exciting!!!!! Will be checking thread obsessively!!!

Yes sfx, defo to tea. A hamper is lively but there is souch food
around at Xmas anyway. Tea sounds like a real treat and something you can all do together!

Got K weighed today. Only put on 50g since last Tuesday but midwife
seemed happy enough and said important thing is she is gaining and to keep doing what we are doing which is trying to keep her awake for proper feeds.

futurity · 29/11/2011 18:26

Thinking of you and your DP Rhet ...exciting times!

rhetorician · 29/11/2011 18:35

thanks for good wishes - first objective is to get DD(1) to bed...

fannybanjo · 29/11/2011 19:54

Quickie to say good luck rhet and let's hope this is the start of labour.

WishIwasCherryMenlove · 29/11/2011 19:57

Rhet - good luck!

Hat excited to hear you are doing the GDL . Are you doing it full or part time? That's how I got into law. I found it very hard work as they pack so much into a year, the LPC was a doddle in comparison.

Had a productive work day today. I'm not too badly behind with my targets, but I am so anal about these things that even being slightly behind puts me on edge. I had a few days off sick plus did client training last month so that took up a lot of time.

monkey my new miele is amazing, I can thoroughly recommend it. We were stuck on using cheap crappy Robert Dyas ones - fine for a small wooden floored flat but not for a house with carpets. When I tried out the miele I was somewhat horrified by the hair it brought up. In fact we got it from the local Currys - they are on special offer reduced from £300 to £150 - get yourself down there!

sfx enjoy your afternoon tea! I love afternoon teas with a passion.

Lastly moshi did your DH make it to SF ok? when are you and the kids heading out?

rhetorician · 29/11/2011 20:18

what a palaver! first of all skype DD's dad and gps (her grandad goes in for his big surgery tomorrow), bath, tantrum because ITNG is over (she hasn't asked to watch it in weeks!), cue dvd, put her to bed, picture falls down and manages to hit all three of us on the head, get her into bed, 10 minutes later a wail of 'my bed is wet' - and so it was...it is now 45 minutes past her normal bedtime...tonight of all nights!

am curious about the targets thing - how does it work? I set all my own targets (well other than teaching and eternal deadlines) - what is GDL?

I need a better hoover - we have carpets upstairs (and on the stairs) and they get grimy very fast - I usually do the stairs just with the nozzle, but this current hoover we've had for about 7 years (ha ha, maybe we just don't use it enough!!) and i'm sure it will die soon.

Who knows when this baby is going to show up - but I'll be sure to let you know!

peachLFDTsmuggler · 29/11/2011 20:23

Oh dear Rhet, sod's law eh? Is it your MIL that's going to look after DD, she's not far eh? Best of British, and the luck of the Irish to you both. So exciting!!!!

rhetorician · 29/11/2011 20:29

Graduate Diploma in Law?

AngeChica · 29/11/2011 20:51

,marking>

That was great race report jez

Same happened to me at the GN Swim ibby someone died in my wave :(

Well, I went to the running club for the first time last night. Ran with about 5 other women. When they said they were only going out for 6, I assumed they meant k but it was miles Blush. But we did a good time and were able to chat on and stuff so I didn't disgrace myself. I have been so used to running on my lonesome it was quite weird. But enjoyable, and will be a great way to up my mileage.

must check back for baby news rhet exciting!

DebiTheScot · 29/11/2011 20:57

Shred- piece of piss
2kg weights- feathers

DebiTheScot · 29/11/2011 21:01

Really should read before posting. Good luck Rhet and dp.

rhetorician · 29/11/2011 21:01

debi you are well 'ard...

backwardLFDTpossom · 29/11/2011 21:06

Hill training finished for now. 5 f'ckers of hills tonight with recovery jogging (ugh - too fast to recover) in between... Wheeee

monkeyLFDTwench · 29/11/2011 21:09

debi I'm starting to find the shred manageable! Wonder what level 3 like, have you tried it?

Other exciting news ........my anniversary present was Jillian's Six Week Six Pack! Just watched a bit and OMG it looks tough.

fannybanjo · 29/11/2011 21:15

I'm losing total interest in rubbing me. Need a race now to stimulate me! Hey Debi you crazy biatch!!

WishIwasCherryMenlove · 29/11/2011 21:36

good work ange, I've been finding it good running with other people.

Yep, GDL is the graduate diploma in law Rhet, what you do if you didn't do a law degree. Targets - eugh. Most lawyers in private practice have a target of a certain number of hours of work on client files each day which fees into an annual hours target ... life is ruled by the clock and measured in 6 minute units ...

Anyone striking tomorrow, or affected by it with schools shut etc.? DP is bitter and twisted that the police cannot strike but his pensions/salaries are seriously affected.

DebiTheScot · 29/11/2011 21:52

I will be finishing my Christmas shopping striking tomorrow. I know it's probably bad but I was delighted to hear that the strike was a day I work and that ds1's school is still open! I was dreading having to go into shops on a Saturday to get things like the stocking presents that I obviously can't buy with the dss with me. Mind you the shops will probably be mobbed. I'm not going to my nearest town though because 1. It'll be full of school kids I know and 2. It's Basingstoke.

That's if I can get out of bed. The circuits class was similar to the strength and abs bits of shred with some running with 5kg weights thrown in too. And for an hour. With 2 x 5kg weights.
I've only done level 2 shred a few times, not even looked at 3.

fanny no harm in taking it easy for a few weeks, it'll probably do your body good. Is there anything around to enter in maybe Feb? Then you could have a rest over Christmas if you wanted and still have time to build it up again. And you were going to do parkrun too weren't you?

Jezabelle · 29/11/2011 21:53

Marking my place. I'm "resting" at the mo, but had a dream last night that I went on a massive run. Does that count? Runnerstipple I'm actually feeling fine today. Legs not too achy!

Ange I have been curious as to whether I'd enjoy running with others. Have a friend who ran lots but is now heavily pregnant (due Thursday). She's desperate to get back to it so might try running with her in the new year.

smileitssunny · 29/11/2011 22:07

Hi, mind if I join you? I started running with a club a couple of months ago and have done some of their cross country league races - does that count?
Trying to stay motivated in the dark and wet weather.... not so easy.

AngeChica · 29/11/2011 22:16

The other advantage is that I felt pretty safe going out in the group as well Jez. I always run at night in well lit areas but my town is pretty down at heel TBH. Last week I ran through this estate and there were about 20 little feral kids just raving on a garage roof - random!

Very embarrassed to have let my UNISON membership lapse a couple of years ago, I come from a trade union family so my poor old grandad would be turning in his grave. DH is a teacher but his union ASCL isn't out. DS only at nursery in the afternoons so childminder will have him for 3 extra hours.

"The one with the Garmin" who gave us time and distance updates on our group run said we did 6.2 miles in 62 min last night. However when I did 6 mph on the treadmill for 30 mins tonight it feels like hard work ... why is that I wonder? Not really used to treadmill but can dip on after work if I finish early thereby not leaving DH to put the boy to bed every night Blush.

Hatwoman · 29/11/2011 22:33

cherry - after much soul and life searching I decided to do it over 18 months - starting in Jan - rather than ft. It means I might be able to carry on with a bit of consultancy work (or possibly some relevant work experience) (and running, of course Grin) and also means that I'll delay the start of f-t work until dds are both fully in secondary school. I have an LLM and use law in my current work so law per se isn't new to me - but using it practically is. I'm still wobbling over the whole thing though. My current work drives me a bit mad day-to-day but I do get to do some interesting things. I hope this turns out to be the right decision.
