All ye fine runners who wish to get together to discuss running-related topics, or otherwise, come and join us here. We are a friendly and incredibly supportive group of runners, varying in ability, but all bonded together by a common theme of loving running, committed to squeezing it into our busy lives and wanting to improve our own PBs. So whether you are a full-time mum, part-time working mum, full-time working mum, working from home mum, mum who is studying, or even a dad Grin, add your race to the list so you can be sure of some moral support and advice along the way. And if you aren't racing, don't worry as you can enjoy the race reports and race vicariously.

futurity you need ice cream!

futurity · 11/12/2011 19:50

DH bought me back chocolate cake and a chocolate torte...yum! Unfortunately pain killers just worn off and am trying to calculate if I can take any more as they have big scary "THESE ARE ADDICTIVE" lettering on the side!

rhetorician · 11/12/2011 20:02

monkey orange quite so; turkey baster much too large for these purposes - 10ml or 5ml syringe Wink. Specimen pot quite handy too - oh dear, tmi. Best keep this knowledge to myself, I think.

Plotting and planning my run for tomorrow - hoping to make it a longish one - 13-14k if that seems feasible. Have a feeling the weather is going to be foul though.

All well in the rhet household; all 4 of us went for a walk - to the off license, appropriately enough! The bedtime thing will settle I'm sure - everything has been off - too much cake, not enough going outside, lots of visitors, getting up late - it's hardly surprising. She is actually being really fab with the baby (dd2 came off the boob and dd1 said 'you've finished your milk now baby' and pulled down DP's top Shock)

peachLFDTsmuggler · 11/12/2011 20:11

Hmmm monkey, that game is not common down our way. surprised you didn't do yourself a mischief!

peachLFDTsmuggler · 11/12/2011 20:18

Interesting factoid sticky, and you know what? It flipping feels like it most of the time. Weirdly almost all the reasons I love London, are the reasons it winds me up, e.g. teeming with folk which makes it very vibrant and exciting, but also means transport and getting access to things like events and exhibitions is difficult.

Rhet, ahh the festive family trip to the offy!! Grin
that's very funny, DD1's comment. My one comes running through shouting "She's making her milk face!!!" and "She's trying to get milk from daddy!!"

wheely, hope you get some running in, during crazy week!!

Got loads of admin type stuff to do this week including DD1's school application (gulp!) and registering K's birth. Need to be organised or I'll forget my head!

peachLFDTsmuggler · 11/12/2011 20:20

Oh and remember futurity, Just Say No Wink.

WishIwasCherryMenlove · 11/12/2011 20:21

Hi all

Welcome Alma.

Went out for freezing dark run tonight in driving rain. Feeling quite hardcore as a result. Am starting on increasing distances now in lead up to hm but I think I need to consider nutrition a bit more as was feeling dead legged by the end

Monkey thank you so much for offer of toddler clothes, that's really kind. Ds will be 2 in march but he's a big un so will probably take you up on offer, will send you a pm when I'm on the computer tomorrow .

Right then, 2 more weeks slog until xmas, and 2 joyous back to back court hearings for me tomorrow - ahhh!

futurity · 11/12/2011 20:25

Woops peach ..I said yes after working out I was allowed to take them Smile

liath · 11/12/2011 20:54

Hi all,
Welcome to alma! You sound like you're well and truly getting the bug.

Get well soon, futurity.

Bumply are you near the Pentlands? Edinburgh has been looking beautiful in the snow.

Well done monkey on the cereal packet game win Grin. Last time I played that particular game I ended up face-planting and getting carpet burns on my face because I was too plastered to put my hands out fast enough.

Did a very slow 4 miles today and thoroughly enjoyed it - my sister had a stinker of a cold and my gammy post-ill-advised-hill-sprint-session leg was still a wee bit gammy so we took it very slow and chatted all the way round. My leg feels much better for it, must have stretched the gammyness out!! My sister then did an awesome roast followed by Queen of Puddings, which I haven't eaten in decades years and it made my very ancient grandfather cry because it reminded him of my Granny who died this year and was a bit of a pudding guru in the family.

MrsWednesday · 11/12/2011 22:11

Fanny, my traxs have arrived and are currently being held hostage by the post office - thanks so much for sending them.

Have been reading but not posting mainly because I haven't been running either. Hope all the lurgies are clearing up, rubbish time of year for them. Have had mouth ulcers, headaches, sore neck/throat, general crapness for the last couple of weeks (plus work do and hangover ) - my excuses for failing to get out there and do some running basically.

Love the baby pictures Rhet, you all looks so happy and baby A is beautiful - and I especially loved how prominent your Garmin is on all of them.

Top tip for the anti-smell stuff, I have two t-shirts that I can smell from miles away so I will see if I can find some.

Cherry, if you find some of the other ladies on FB you'll be able to track me down too - initials are SW.

Bumply I also run alone and in the dark at times, I just try and keep away from completely deserted places, and stick to routes where I know there are pavements (and wear my high vis jacket).

Went for a 5k hilly run on Otley Chevin yesterday with a couple of people from work who were much younger and faster than me which was a bit demoralising! In a bid to make up for lost running time I also went out for a couple of miles this morning in the rain which was lovely, bracing and fresh.

Who has graduated to Level 3 on the Dreaded Shred? Haven't braved it yet...

Welcome Alma

Sorry for rubbish catch-up, happy running everyone.

orangeLFDThead · 11/12/2011 22:16

Glad you had a better night Rhet.
I just taught that game to the boys when they had some friends round the other week monkey. However I can't play it as I am not very flexible at all. Well done on winning.
Futurity and sticky hope you both feel better soon. Your dh sounds a star futurity.
I was sort of joking about the turkey baster, so no didn't try it. Hopefully might be ok for tomorrow which I think is ov day. So a few days abstinence might not be a bad thing. I will shut up now as well aware this not a ttc thread Smile.
Had a nice lie in this morning but then got woken up by the alarm on my phone reminding me I had a race which made me feel a bit Sad but then I looked out of the window and saw torrential rain and felt more happier that I wouldn't be out in that.
Was supposed to be at a engagement party last night, so just popped by for an hour with ds2 to show my face and give present. There was a little girl there who obviously fancied ds2. She was dancing for him and kept occasional lifting up her skirt to show him that it was a rah-rah skirt, or least I hope thats what she was showing him. He kept backing away bright red but with a big grin on his face. I was nearly wetting myself in the corner watching his reaction. Dh got a takeway for us both for when I got back and both got under duvet on sofa and felt sorry for ourselves both coughing away. Sad little old biddies now Grin

SonicMiddleAge · 12/12/2011 02:26

rhet - don?t think I?ve been on since your new daughter was born ? so congratulations. Even the hard work bits are making me nostalgic for dd2?s birth. Keep trying to persuade dh we should have a third but he?s not convinced. And given he has logic, and the fact that the hard work would mostly be him, and all I have is ?but wouldn?t a baby be cute? I can?t really argue....

Am feeling especially crap today. the dds xmas concert was rained off today and moved to Wed, and I shall be in Singapore. DD1 is Gabriel and has been practising for months... I felt like crying when I got to daycare and got told. I?ve already moved the trip twice to try and get to the concert cancelled once already ? can?t believe this much rain in Dec), but of course all she?ll see is every other mother there and me not. I just feel like she hasn?t even got to school yet and I?ve let her down on attendance on big events. DD2 I?m not so worried about. She?s less hyped by the whole thing, and given there will be sausage rolls afterwards I doubt will even notice I?m not there!

Not had too much running recently ? been busy and it's been hot and muggy. It rained on Sunday through so I took advantage and got out for a (very slow) 16km (87 min). Possibly beer and bbq prawns the night before weren?t the ideal running fuel.

DebiTheScot · 12/12/2011 09:42

Just took ds1 (5) to dentist and feel like a terrible parent now. He needs 3 fillings and is being referred to a special children's dentist to have them done. I feel so guilty even tho he brushes twice a day & doesn't eat many sweet things Sad

sfxmum · 12/12/2011 10:44

debi regarding teeth I really think there is a very strong genetic component dd has perfect teeth and she does eat chocolate a fair bit and juices, yet her friend who very strictly does not, has had 2 fillings and one extraction when he was 5.

Hello all not been much around but have been keeping an eye, feeling under the weather for most of the week and particularly this weekend, not running but hopefully will pop out within the hr, looks lovely out

monkey sorry about DS, but frankly such ostentation is not only in very poor taste, it clearly does not buy an education, he will be fine, at least in the long run

wave to alma

sorry for all I missed must get back to some study before I can run

futurity · 12/12/2011 11:28

Typical..beautiful day and I can't run Sad got some serious drugs from doctor to sort my neck out. Very frustrating though as can't do anything.

rhetorician · 12/12/2011 11:35

beautiful day here, although clouding over now; did 6 miles in the cold sun, saw deer and it was very quiet. Bliss. Lost one of my lidl gloves though :( (tucked it into waistband. Stupid of me)

futurity do you know what you've done to your neck?

DD1 at nursery, DD2 snoozing in pram (woke for feeds at 2 and 6 :)) -so I fear I am actually going to have to do some actual work...

futurity · 12/12/2011 11:46

No idea...Doctor said it was just "one of those things". He made me try and move my head in various positions and I soon realised how I couldn't ! He said I have about 50% mobility and has given me some higher strength anti inflammatory drugs as well as some co-codamol capsules so I shall be flying in a few days Wink

rhetorician · 12/12/2011 11:50

sounds nasty - I had an issue like that a few years back - no obvious injury, but hurt like hell and mobility limited. It did resolve itself Im glad to say. Am sorting laundry...

futurity · 12/12/2011 11:53

Am in bed watching This Morning Smile have to behave and not do anything despite the fact I have presents to wrap!

stickyLFDTfingers · 12/12/2011 12:09

futurity you stay right where you are and get better, mrs!

rhet your run sounds lovely. Annoying about the glove, hopefully Lidl will do another running special (and you should buy two pair!). You so need some idiot string Xmas Wink

sonic :( and I so hear you. Even last year I missed DD1's Christmas play because we were having the sodding redundancy announcement (the irony!). It can be very miserable being a working parent sometimes. Tho on a lighter note, I'm very Envy of beer and bbq prawns, sounds heavenly!

Got the six miles in - beautiful weather this morning, tho the earth standing hard as iron is hard on the poor old shins. I spent a lot of the time being at dog walkers - extension leads acting as trip wires, the "oh he's only being friendly" leaper uppers... grrrr. Then when I got home a card was waiting for me - cute little dogs on the front, in aid of Dogs Aid. Did I feel the wicked old scrooge Xmas Blush ...

monkeyLFDTwench · 12/12/2011 12:32

Sonic any chance you could watch a rehearsal? Our nursery always did a little DVD, I know it's not the same Sad.

debi ds1 has very poor enamel due to IUGR apparently plus he was on abs for a year after he was born. No fillings but he has had an abscess whihc was dreadful. Could it be something like that? He has little white spots on some of his baby teeth which is the first sign of the enamel wearing down. We are extra careful, but not a lot we can do - apparently his adult teeth shouldn't be affected. The dentist has always been lovely about it. I'm taking them all on Friday though, and dreading it. Best advice is NOT to brush straight after eating, and to rinse with water after all food.

SonicMiddleAge · 12/12/2011 12:34

Thanks sticky. Just put her to bed and she looked so hopeful when she said "maybe it will rain on Wednesday too and you can come later" :(

RunningAllDay · 12/12/2011 12:48

I know what you mean about the dogs sticky - not the leads as no-one seems to bother here, but do I want your dog to jump at me and put his muddy paws on my (oh-so-clean!) coat? Of course I don't say anything as I would only stress myself out and it isn't worth it and I am a wuss , but it is irritating...

Sorry to hear about your neck futurity - sounds odd and I hope it improves soon. Enjoy the enforced downtime though - can't remember the last time I just sat and watched the telly in the day.

Gorgeous day here too - and I managed to personal furthest - 19 miles (in 3:08). It was supposed to be 18 but I got lost twice. My training buddy has been down with flu for a week so did it alone which meant I was much faster (and I admit I upped my Garmin beeper to 75% HR which let me do a reasonable pace). My knees are really hurting now and I would do quite a lot for a massage. Got to stagger to the shower. Alos have a very sore arse (I'm sure there is a posh name for the flab muscles at the top of one's thighs), anyone else get this?

RunningAllDay · 12/12/2011 12:51

And I'm so sorry Sonic what a horrible feeling. I know my own hate it when one of us miss something (usually DH) but they do know that we do our very best to come but sometimes its impossible. Your DD knows you aren't doing it on purpose which has to be important...

monkeyLFDTwench · 12/12/2011 13:04

Sorry running but pmsl at your sore arse! I get a good bit of butt chafe running in hot weather, good ole Vaseline is your friend Wink. Great time for 19 miles though!
