All ye fine runners who wish to get together to discuss running-related topics, or otherwise, come and join us here. We are a friendly and incredibly supportive group of runners, varying in ability, but all bonded together by a common theme of loving running, committed to squeezing it into our busy lives and wanting to improve our own PBs. So whether you are a full-time mum, part-time working mum, full-time working mum, working from home mum, mum who is studying, or even a dad Grin, add your race to the list so you can be sure of some moral support and advice along the way. And if you aren't racing, don't worry as you can enjoy the race reports and race vicariously.

great stuff moshi thanks for new thread! it is blowing a gale here and pouring with rain, but according to my trusty friend the Met Eireann rainfall radar it looks like it might have cleared by late morning. In which case, I shall run to work...DP up in night with contractions, but came to nowt. But it looks like this baby will be here fairly soon at least :o

Hope you all have better running conditions than me! and that you get some good runs in today

ibbydibby · 29/11/2011 09:51

Thanks for new thread Moshi.

Rhet - oooh contractions - we will all be hanging on to this thread with baited breath now.

Monkey poor DS, sounds really upsetting.

After the high of half marathon on Sunday, discovered yesterday that one of the runners taking part had collapsed and later died. He was only 25. Sad.

Thinking I may add another race to the list - a 10 mile one. Otherwise my only listed race is the VLM (eek)

fannybanjo · 29/11/2011 09:52

Hear ye fellow rubbers!! Marking my spot. I'll be back...

futurity · 29/11/2011 10:08

OMG new thread already! Time flies! Looks like there will be a baby on this one as well by the sounds of it Rhet
blimey Ibby that is sad :( Expect he had some sort of hidden underlying condition..still tragic though...so young.
Cloudy, windy and slight drizzle here. Not running today as STILL feel rubbish...ear is making me feel a bit dizzy and have the snots. Day Nurse is my best friend though and taking the edge off it.

WishIwasCherryMenlove · 29/11/2011 10:20
Hatwoman · 29/11/2011 10:24

"un met chargeable hours targets" do I spy a lawyer? I'm starting a GDL in January although I still can't quite believe I'm actually going to go through with it. haven't signed on teh dotted line yet so won't believe it til I do. no running today. or yesterday. bad hat.

Wheelybug · 29/11/2011 11:07

Marking place ! Back later....

DebiTheScot · 29/11/2011 11:19

Marking my place too while hiding from the wind and rain. Glad I didn't plan to run today.

stickyLFDTfingers · 29/11/2011 11:23

Thanks moshi for the new thread, and best of luck with the single parenting! Will you still have some help around the house?

rhet so very exciting! Hope your run to work isn't too blowy. It's going to be torrential here soon - presumably what didn't fall on you (or Fanny).

cherry you have my sympathy. Remember those heady days a few years ago when you'd done your targets by September... How times change.

ibby that's so sad. It's awful when someone goes so young.

Having the washing machine fixed again. I'm showing it my favoured model on appliance online when the chap's gone, it's on its last chance! Also meant no shredding this morning, and I'm off for a normous lunch after...

sfxmum · 29/11/2011 11:41

marking place
cheers moshi award for most inclusive equal ops intro Grin

ibby poor boy I hope he really enjoyed running

rhet ooohh!

unlikely to run today, weather ok but had PTA meeting, busy run up to Christmas stuff and I must study otherwise my targets get all out of sink

and strike tomorrow so not poss the oh heck maybe I will fir something inHmm

monkeyLFDTwench · 29/11/2011 11:42

ibby I saw that on the local news - how sad for a young chap.

moshi can't believe you'll be on your way so soon. Best have those hankies ready .....

cherry when I first qualified my target was 5.5 hours a day. By the time I left it was 8 Angry. One of the reasons I no longer work!

rhet you're just teasing us really aren't you?! But contractions coming to nothing is a good sign! Just to warn you that I had "contractions coming to nothing" for ages, and wandered round blissfully unaware that I was slowly dilating away - all it took was the sweep and things set off fast!

futurity I have also succumbed to SnotFest. I've been ignoring monitoring the scratchy throat and tiredness for a week, but today it's definitely got a foothold. Just back from the gym and was too tired to run so did a cross trainer session.

fanny please tell me you watched Desperate Scousewives last night - it was awful!

liath · 29/11/2011 11:42

Wussed out of running today as it's a hurricane! Went into the hills on sunday with my sister and we nearly got blown over so curtailed the run a bit so we could head back to the car via a valley!! V muddy but at least we could stay upright!

jezabelle well done, your report brought a lump to the throat.

moshi hope things aren't too stressful in the next few days, when do you head out?

Was it running who was going to do medicine? I've never regretting it as a career (well, apart from some moments at 4am as a junior doctor and the bleep went off yet again), I still feel incredibly privileged to be doing a job where people trust you and let you help them in what can be very intimate parts of their lives. I'm also very nosy and find people generally very interesting which probably helps Grin. Best of luck with it!

Sorry for lack of personals, finding it hard to keep up with the thread and am about to go to work.

monkeyLFDTwench · 29/11/2011 11:47

Oooh yes sorry I meant to add I read jezabelle's report - family support makes such a difference, doesn't it?

liath is blowing a gale here too - very wet and windy and depressing.

On a better note, it's my anniversary today - 14 years. Forgot to get DH a card yesterday so have left a soppy message on facebook - these modern ways, eh?

fannybanjo · 29/11/2011 12:02

monkey I didn't watch it, I can't stand these fake reality shows, don't see the point of them, a good documentary about Liverpool would be far more interesting. Maybe kind of show that past the stereotypical scouser there's actually people who are intelligent but nope, E4 decide a Scouse TOWIE is what's needed. No wonder the country's a fucking mess. HmmGrin Wink

Weather awful here too. Was going to do some speed intervals later but unless it calms down, looks doubtful. Ironing it will be instead. Sad.

rhet ohhhhh fingers crossed! It does sound like DP is on her way.

sfxmum · 29/11/2011 12:10

monkey happy anniversary, we have our 10th next year but we have lived together since '96 Shock

fanny careful with the housework did you do a risk assessment?

question we have vouchers for Fortnum&Mason should we go for tea (with dd) or just pick up a hamper? we forgot to use them up from last Christmas

monkeyLFDTwench · 29/11/2011 12:12

fanny know what you mean, I was about to say it didn't show Liverpool in a good light but actually you know it didn't show Liverpool at all. Just a bunch of wannabes, all bitching and slagging each other off. It actually made TOWIE look like it had a plot, which is saying something.

Ironing for me too, with my new emergency iron - which just isn't very good Sad. I had to go and buy a new carpet shampooer yesterday (oh the glamour) because the old one has inexplicably stopped sucking the water back up, and I cannot BEAR dirty carpets, AND we need a new hoover too .

orangeLFDThead · 29/11/2011 14:34

Thanks for the new thread Moshi.
Oh rhet, thats worrying about your job, hope it all works out . Dh was put on short time all last year, but its still affecting us now a year on. He is also constantly stressing things might go quiet again and he might go back on short time. It also blowing a gale here. Thats positive about contractions, I know it must be disappointing it coming to nothing but it means things ae going in the right direction
Thats sad ibby, poor bloke and his family.
Hope you feel better soon futurity and monkey. Happy anniversry monkey

backwardLFDTpossom · 29/11/2011 14:42

Hello, wondered where you'd all gone! Grin

Am still filling in application form. Going very slowly, but am almost there. Feeling happier about it, but have still not tackled THE question, yet. Hmm. Boy is in nursery at the moment, so have been using the peace and quiet to fill it in.

Running tonight - pouring rain and wind. Can't say that's appealing at the moment...

runnerstipple · 29/11/2011 14:44

sfxmum - go for tea - I got taken for my birthday this year and it was gorgeous. But don't eat for about 3 days beforehand is my advice. I am a glutton and even I couldn't sample everything, although I had a damned good go at it.

Jezabelle, great report. How are you feeling today?

Rhet, any news? PS how's potty training going? Having had a month of fry nights, DS3 has had three wet beds in a row. This too shall pass...

No running here today (had to visit potential middle school for DS1) but hoping to Zumba later. No running tomorrow with school closed either. Bah humbug.

Am about to hit the proceed with order button to buy Shred as I decided that I couldn't wait until Christmas before I do something about the cake belly that I am growing.

runnerstipple · 29/11/2011 14:46

dry nights. Sorry, dyslexic fingers.

rhetorician · 29/11/2011 15:38

no news as such, DP says she thinks she is slowly going into labour - contractions about every 20 mins, so I assume like (was it?) ibby she is quietly dilating away.

DD's potty training has gone pretty well - she hasn't had an accident at home in about 3 weeks and hasn't at nursery for about a week and a half. Totally sorted for wee, slightly more hit and miss for poo (but this has been an issue for her anyway). So really pleased with her. She has been dry about 2 out of 3 mornings - it depends on when she wakes up.

Just been out for 6.5km on the grounds that this might be my last chance, and that will get me to 200k for November...it was cold and gusty, but only wet underfoot.

Wheelybug · 29/11/2011 17:00

Sounds promising rhet - exciting stuff, another thread baby soon. Good luck to you both !

Well done to anyone who got out today. I was on the treadmill as dd2 has a tues afternoon crèche slot. A gentle 5k.

Hopefully swimming lesson tomorrow if they don't mind dd1 sitting on the side. She is worried that she 'isn't allowed'. She's a stickler for the rules. I am not. Which makes a frustrating combination for us both Grin

Thanks for the new thread moshi - good luck managing the ship with dh in SF. When you off ?

Has anyone ever tried these ? I am always having trouble with laces and am lazy about undoing themBlush but any
Idea if they work ?

Wheelybug · 29/11/2011 17:02

sfx I'd vote for tea too. I think dd1 would love to do something like that (dd2 would love the food part, just not the sitting still and being posh part Wink)

rhetorician · 29/11/2011 17:04

DP says probably tomorrow...

sfxmum · 29/11/2011 17:10

it is all very exciting rhet

will run tomorrow as dh is choosing to work from home rather than cross picket lines (he is currently working for some borough council)

so votes for tea thanks, guess that means booking? we can be terribly disorganised, will disgrace selves by showing up looking like we have been dragged over a hedge backwards, our usual 'posh' Grin
