All ye fine runners who wish to get together to discuss running-related topics, or otherwise, come and join us here. We are a friendly and incredibly supportive group of runners, varying in ability, but all bonded together by a common theme of loving running, committed to squeezing it into our busy lives and wanting to improve our own PBs. So whether you are a full-time mum, part-time working mum, full-time working mum, working from home mum, mum who is studying, or even a dad Grin, add your race to the list so you can be sure of some moral support and advice along the way. And if you aren't racing, don't worry as you can enjoy the race reports and race vicariously.

Oh peach I am so sorry. Will be thinking of you and your family (your Dad in particular). Very sad.

orange hope you manage to get back in touch with your ex SIL. Don't feel bad about losing touch though. I'm guessing things were tough.

Well done on the 10k ange !

Wheelybug · 30/11/2011 22:44

Sorry - my well done was to vicar. Not
Sure why I thought angeBlush

sfxmum · 30/11/2011 22:46

orange it is quite different as from what you say there are likely to be some deep issues for this girl, neglect and ill treatment in early childhood leaves lasting and sometimes barely repairable marks imo. fanny is right to prioritise your family it takes a lot in such cases and it is very draining emotionally

fanny speedy kid a pre teen with a Garmin Grin Santa working overtime

sfxmum · 30/11/2011 22:47

and yes vicar well done I am also working for the under 1h 10K

orangeLFDThead · 30/11/2011 22:54

Fanny you were only just saying you were not thinking much about running, he sounds like just the challange you need Grin.
I know what you mean fanny I lost touch when ex left me. It was a very low point for me and tbh felt close to topping my self. With the boys being only babies I had to just focus on them and I couldn't really cope with much else. Then after a certain amont of time has past you feel stupid picking up the phone and does my ex's family really want to hear from me. Now that Im better it feels a piss poor excuse for not staying in touch. That must be tough when she pleading with you.

DebiTheScot · 30/11/2011 22:54

how sad orange, hope she's ok and will settle again now.

I managed a run in daylight today. Almost impossible during the week at this time of year. I got home from shopping just under an hour before having to collect ds1 so threw my stuff on, drove down to his school and did 4 laps (3 miles) of the park by his school in 30 mins. I wanted to do an off road run to ease the shins back into it and can't really do that in the dark.
As I was very achy from circuits and also full of the cold I took it easy but with a hill on each lap (not a very big one) I was still hot and sweaty by the end.
I thought the run might loosen off my achy muscles but it might have made them worse! Getting on the loo is hard work!

fannybanjo · 30/11/2011 22:56

sfx yes, it's hard when dealing with children from badly neglected homes as ultimately the issues surface somewhere. The girl I helped took it out in a very sly way on my DD1. She was also saying to her I was like a mum to her and that's not what an 8 year old wants to hear, it's starts huge jealousy. As DD1 eloquently put it "Mummy, ALL my friends love you but they don't want you as a Mum, they have their own". Hard situation as when a child needs help, it's normal to step in BUT when said child has two functioning lazy bastard parents, it's not right that the onus falls on other people. You get used. orange I hope things work out.

sfx his dad will buy him a Garmin as running is his huge love, it doesn't cost them much for him to partake in. I think he would benefit from knowing his pace though as he could do intervals by his house with his mum watching and know he was doing them at correct pace. I'll let him borrow mine first though.... Hmm

fannybanjo · 30/11/2011 22:59

X posts orange - I'd personally leave your ex and his family in the past but that's not to say I'm right. I think it's too emotionally draining and really, think about your children and whether it's fair to bring a 17 year old with issues into their lives.... On a brighter note, you looking forward to Stockport 10? If I don't go to NY, I'm going to see if they have a cancellation list.and would do it if I got a place.

orangeLFDThead · 30/11/2011 22:59

sfx I meant more because once ss get involved they totally take over and we were left with very little choice about them. But yes your right things that happened to her she will never get over.

fannybanjo · 30/11/2011 23:02

Debi bet you enjoyed that run! Nice change. You'll feel better tomorrow, your muscles will recover more tonight.

I'm doing longggggg one on Friday. Think a 17 miler THEN going shopping in Chester with friend. I'm gonna be fucked Friday night. Couple people commented that I look but gaunt so have upped calorie intake this week although I eat loads anyway.

orangeLFDThead · 30/11/2011 23:03

Well done Debi.
Anyway, Im of to bed now. Sorry for being depressing. Yes looking forward to stockport 10.
Hope you ok peach

stickyLFDTfingers · 30/11/2011 23:10

fanny sounds like you've met your nemesis! Mind you do keep properly fed, you want to keep your bone density. (this is particular on my mind as the nan has osteoporosis and the bottom of her spine has just snapped. Not good. I'm upping my active intake despite not being a bit bloated).

orange I hope you can decide what to do and, more importantly, make peace with your decision. As fanny says, in the end you must prioritise your own family. It is hard though - tho I think in your case you have done so much for your extended family already you have nothing to feel guilty about at all.

MoshiMoshi · 30/11/2011 23:18

fanny - get your boy to check out the Power of Ten for national rankings to see where he sits. He can then see how much he needs to improve to be up there with the podium placed finishers and this may help to focus him more on pace (and his folks on a Garmin!) The U13s manage a sub-5 minute mile with ease.

MoshiMoshi · 30/11/2011 23:19

Orange - you, m'dear, reach out to a lot of people IMO but don't forget to think about whether you have the capacity to continue to do so without compromising those for whom you already have charge, as I am sure you will do.

fannybanjo · 30/11/2011 23:20

I know sticky a 12 year old boy, I have to watch my P's and Q's. I was shouting at top of hill when he was sprinting off "G'AWN LAD, KILL ME OFF WHY DONCHA!". We did fast run back to car and my legs were going ten to the dozen. We're both similar speeds though on short runs so will definitely benefit each other. Hey imagine though if I helped him and he beat this lad, how chuffed would I be?!

fannybanjo · 30/11/2011 23:22

Great advice Moshi thanks. I can imagine what with him not being in that 5m/m ranking, he's overlooked for the faster boys. However, the thought of young lads running that fast is scary!

fannybanjo · 30/11/2011 23:27

Bloody hell Moshi just checked quickly power of ten and quickest time for 1.5k for north west in 2011 was 4.37m. Shock He's never getting to that level however he can better himself and that's what's important.

fannybanjo · 30/11/2011 23:34

Dear lord, depressing reading power of ten. Makes you feel like a caterpillar going for a walk.

WishIwasCherryMenlove · 01/12/2011 09:04

Any news on baby rhet?

Running club for me tonight. I've got today off as a me day and I am in heaven. Presently having a child free coffee and reading paper with hair appt in a hour. Bliss.

In other news, my stateside friend is meeting Barrack Obama today!! Grin

rhetorician · 01/12/2011 09:20

no news - nothing happening at all. Think she has popped back up - clearly didn't fancy it much...oh well, at least I can clock up a few more miles :)

futurity · 01/12/2011 09:31

Has anyone got this?: www.camelbak.com/Sports-Recreation/Packs/2011-Delaney-Race.aspx

I'm looking for a waist pack thingy to carry water in as I don't like carrying in my hand for too long..also needs to be able to fit my phone in (this one has a bit round the front for doing that which I have not seen before in these type of carriers)

fannybanjo · 01/12/2011 09:40

rhet you know you're a runner when you relish getting few more miles in pre baby. Wink No rest for the wicked.

futurity I recommend trying a few on, any running shops near you? Moshi recommended a Nathan one (I have a Nathan one without bottles) which are excellent. Don't budge.

cherry how come your friend is meeting Barack Obama?

rhetorician · 01/12/2011 10:30

suppose we have to remember that DP is 39+5, 2 days off due date yet

going to run errands, get bags of pellets for the stove, grade some essays, generally get things shipshape and orderly

fannybanjo · 01/12/2011 10:37

rhet life doesn't stop near the due date - what did people do before mobile phones etc?! Carry on as normal.

I hadn't realised, that boy I took running is only 11- he's 12 next May. If he's doing a 6.50m/m at 11, he can surely in 17 months knock at least a minute off that... Moshi??

futurity · 01/12/2011 10:48

Is that the Nathan Triangle Fanny ? I've come across it when doing my research. I do have two running shops in Cambridge but can't really get there easily due to lack of transport. Saying that I am in Cambridge on Sunday...might be able to pop by then if I can persuade the family!
