If this goes horribly wrong it is not my fault.....

Sorry Amber my week has been a cross between the Twilight Zone and soap opera with falling ratings at Christmas.

Today's joy looking after dDad while working. It feels like the toddler years are back (minus trying to fish fuzzy felt out of bottoms and sultanas out of noses hopefully). Thankfully they have superfast internet so I can "work".

Haha! Thank you Mrs. If getting wet is the worst thing that happened to me today I can't complain!

I have been reading this article in the Guardian about the rise of Perfect Motherhood. I felt like the Churchill nodding dog.

Today is going to be a scurry about day - I am off to M&D to do some parental babysitting while my bro takes mum to the hospital. I hope to make some super soft bread to see if I can get dad to eat. I also have actual real paid work to do - the advantage of being a pivot whiz is that it takes 2 minutes & looks impressive.

hello all!
I fell off the thread for a bit Blush

I have an operation on my leg tomorrow (and the second one next Weds) so am getting ready for that, I also managed to book my vaccine for 28th May which I am really pleased about.
I have cleared my credit cards back to £0 and £700 respectively, hoping to get the £700 back down to £0 in the next few months then I will just cut them up and stop using them, as I cannot be trusted not to build up a balance.
No other debt apart from a bank loan for IVF which DH and I both took out together that's £230 a month for 34 more months, looking forward to that being paid off. At least I won't be able to go out for a few weeks after this surgery so that will save some money Grin

AmberIsACertainty · 18/05/2021 13:56

Glad you're enjoying the volunteering Sing

Hello again Gen Smile Good luck for the op and congrats on the cc debt. If you want to keep them for emergencies I've heard a good tip of storing them in the freezer in a box of ice so you can't impulse purchase due to having to defrost the ice block first.

Unescorted oh dear, hope the dressing gown of doom disappears soon. Hope your mum's ok and your dad manages to eat something.

Sorry you didn't get the job Love

lifelongfrugaleer · 18/05/2021 18:19

I will not be spending ££££ in the next few weeks

marthasmum · 18/05/2021 18:37

sing great news on your volunteering, good for you
unescorted hope the trip with your dad was ok
gen best of luck with your surgery
Grumpy and hungry here...I’ve known for while I’m tiptoeing on the edge of type 2 diabetes and had a test that confirms it’s raised again so have started proper low carbing yesterday. I love carbs and am missing them 😠 am trying to frame it as healthy eating so I feel more positive
The main thing I find difficult is it’s already hard thinking of meals that are affordable, quick and acceptable to the kids plus healthy...don’t want to start thinking of cooking me different stuff as well.
But appreciate diabetes is not a pleasant condition

Wolfcub · 18/05/2021 18:53

Life so sorry, that's really shit

Unescorted · 18/05/2021 20:01

Life that is shit.

The DGOD turned to a cape of amazingness. I take back all the gripes about messiness and buying of bike bits.

Thanks so much for sending the link to the article on motherhood, unescorted. Have sent it on to a bunch of people who I know will agree too. The gender inequality aspect of parenthood gets me the most, but the guilt culture is not welcome at all.

Managed to have a nsd on Sunday by accident. So rainy and avoided the internet.

All our spend goes on a cc which we pay in full each month. Statement here today and we haven't managed to save anything again so have renewed determination! The tiger candle arrived though and I have to confess it is pretty awesome ...

SnugglySnerd · 18/05/2021 22:22

Just lost a long post responding to everyone ☹ I'm afraid I don't have the energy to restore it all now, might try again tomorrow.

Nsd.

Unescorted · 19/05/2021 07:21

I was a little self absorbed yesterday - sorry.

Gen hope it all goes well today. I am sending healing vibes your way for a speedy recovery after your op.

Sing I am so please you had a good day volunteering. You have come such a long way since I have "known" you. I am so proud of you.

olive I cannot tell you how much I hate it when people start expecting women to subjugate themselves to an unachievable / highly edited version of motherhood. It seems to be perfectly OK for anyone and everyone to pile in on a new mother to tell her how she is doing things wrong - pointing to a past that never existed as evidence. Or worse hold up a celebrity / influencer with an army of help as an example of someone doing it all right. The subtext being that the new mother is inadequate. I will get off my soap box ....

OP posts:
Gensola · 19/05/2021 07:51

unescorted couldn’t agree more - it also annoys me so much when people coo and praise men for taking their baby out in a pram or to a baby group like he’s some sort of humanitarian saint.

On way to hospital and feeling rather nervous!!!
