If this goes horribly wrong it is not my fault.....

Sorry Amber my week has been a cross between the Twilight Zone and soap opera with falling ratings at Christmas.

Today's joy looking after dDad while working. It feels like the toddler years are back (minus trying to fish fuzzy felt out of bottoms and sultanas out of noses hopefully). Thankfully they have superfast internet so I can "work".

Born bless your Mum and your poor Auntie l am so sorry Flowers

marthasmum · 15/05/2021 14:37

Seem to be a few people with stresses and responsibilities for older parents, that must be tough too.
Eventful morning at DS2’s football match...one player got punched and another went to A&E. Teenage hormones are becoming apparent on the pitch, DS2 (12) is fairly oblivious to it so far luckily. Although he is storing mouldy cups and plates so this bits of food on them in his room like a proper teenager Grin

Taytocrisps · 15/05/2021 18:04

Thanks for the new thread Unescorted. Sorry things are tough for you atm.

Amber glad the vaccination has left you relatively unscathed.

Born sorry to hear about your aunt. It's tough when they reach that stage.

Love fingers crossed for the interview.

Wolf that's really annoying about the recipe.

martha very impressed at you juggling a PhD and working. No easy feat!

life stress induced insomnia isn't good!

I'm intrigued by the crab suit references Smile

Sorry I haven't been posting much. I don't know where the first four (four and a half, actually) months have gone. I think I was probably a bit depressed. The Covid restrictions were very tough and January/February are depressing months at the best of times. To make matters worse, everything to do with the separation/mortgage transfer has been moving at a snail's pace. Anyway, there seems to be a bit of momentum at last. I met my solicitor during the week to go through the Deed of Separation and we made some final changes to it. The bank has given me the go ahead to take over the mortgage although I had to apply twice - first time around the approval had expired before we got all the legal stuff sorted. I felt a cloud lift when I stepped out of the solicitor's office even though I'm not quite at the finish line. But I feel like it's within my grasp now.

Work is very busy but I'm still working from home every other week which makes for a great work life balance. There are rumours that when the immediate crisis is over, we will continue to work from home - maybe two days at home and three in the office. That would be amazing.

I'm seeing a physio re: my knee/ankle/foot problems. The physio reckons I probably have arthritis in my knee and ankle Sad. Between GP visits, anti-inflammatories, the MRI and the physio, I've had a lot of medical expenses lately. But I can claim some of it back next year. Still waiting to see the orthopaedic consultant.

Dad is fully vaccinated now which is a huge relief! I visited him recently for the first time in several months. He was less excited about my visit than I'd have liked and spent the whole evening glued to the TV Grin. We chatted a bit during the ad breaks.

I've booked a few days away in Galway in mid-June. Can't wait.

Today I caught up on some housework. Had a lazy easy dinner of chicken and stuffing wrapped in bacon, baby new potatoes and sweetcorn. I'm off to clean the en-suite shortly and then I'm going to settle down with some chocolate and watch the movie Philomena. I recorded it off the TV ages ago and then forgot about it.

Tomorrow I'm planning a drive to some scenic gardens. The weather forecast is a bit mixed. I'm not quite sure whether to pack a raincoat/jumper or sunglasses/suncream. Maybe all of them, to be on the safe side.

The HSE (our health service) has been hit by a cyber attack www.irishtimes.com/news/health/hse-examines-extent-to-which-patient-records-were-compromised-in-cyberattack-1.4566421. Cyber attacks are nasty at the best of times, but to target a health service during a pandemic is a really shitty thing to do.

Well, that's all my news. Glad to be back properly.

Martha Shock Shock Shock

We had a couple of sweet years where the kids could look after themselves and parents were yet going gaga. My brother & I now need to co-ordinate being away so one of us is close by at all times.

We aren't out of the mouldy plates / cups in bedroom phase yet. I clean the house by closing the doors to the kids rooms (we are in a bungalow). And when the boy hormones get going it is rank.... and DS is a really clean model. I now understand why they spray so much Lynx over themselves.

northender · 15/05/2021 19:53

Martha mouldy items are par for the course in a teen boy room I think! Ds is just about coming out of this at 19....
unescorted I have spent too long this week negotiating with BT about my parents' landline as mum got so flustered with it all on Monday. Dad seems much less sharp than he was and that seems to be progressing.
I'm trying a different sourdough method today/tomorrow from Hugh F-W. It's less labour intensive so would be good for if I'm short of time.
Went for a bluebell walk today with dh where I grew up. It was lovely and we managed to dodge the rain. Went for something to eat afterwards and it was really disappointing. Went out to our usual pub again last night which was really good. So a spendy couple of days, but overall finances looking healthy so we can afford it.

SnugglySnerd · 15/05/2021 20:13

Sorry several of you are having such a thought time with elderly parents and relatives.

Busy day here. Been watching the cup final. So pleased for Leicester.

Hoping to squeeze an outing in tomorrow morning as the forecast is dry, but then wet again in the afternoon. I bought some nice picnic treats this morning so it will be nice even of we end up eating them in the car!

AmberIsACertainty · 16/05/2021 00:48

Tayto that's awful someone hacked the health service. Im not surprised you've felt depressed you've had a lot going on. Hope doc's get to the bottom of your joint trouble and also that you're able to continue to work from home. Congrats on being one step closer to the divorce.

Martha that was an eventful football match!

Mrs totally agree with you about stress. Maybe the world will change a bit for the better now we've had this pandemic and make everyone's lives a little less stressful overall.

Snuggly enjoy the picnic tomorrow. Fingers crossed for the weather.

North sorry to hear your dad's deteriorating. Bluebell walk sounds lovely. I went for a wander through the park today, no bluebells though.

Unescorted there's got to be some sort of scientific link between teenagers, mould and Lynx. Some sort of weird phase they're all compelled to go through.

NSD and was given some free books too.

Happierwithouthim · 16/05/2021 00:54

Place marking

Onwardsandupwardswego · 16/05/2021 06:12

Just petrol yesterday. My word did it rain☔☔☔☔☔ working today so will be NSD

Wolfcub · 16/05/2021 07:58

Tayto really glad the divorce and mortgage are moving on. That's so positive. Sorry you've been feeling down, I'm only a pm away if you need an ear to bend.

Martha the football match sounds lively. We've had a few bust ups and injuries at rugby over the years. Teenage hormones definitely play a part

I made a peanut butter recipe. Definitely wasn't what I set out to make - although I made it look the same iyswim.

Had beers out and a takeaway Friday night so not cheap. Friend's birthday present didn't arrive so I've had to order it again from a more expensive place for immediate delivery. May get a bag of chips or fish and chips after rugby today as we will be near a good fish and chip place

lifelongfrugaleer · 16/05/2021 08:00

Hey tayto sorry to hear things have been tough.

Going on a picnic today to outdoor museum. Pray for no rain

ememem84 · 16/05/2021 08:34

Petrol yesterday £40. Riding £35.

Now at the vaccination centre. I can’t help but feel forced into this. But apparently leaving the island will be more difficult if we don’t have it. So. Here we go.

The vaccination is taking place in sports centre. It’s where I used to come for roller disco when I was a kid!

Might drop a suggestion jn the box as I leave to reinstate roller disco.

AmberIsACertainty · 16/05/2021 08:57

Em I felt the same about being pressured by society, especially when all the worries about side effects came out. But nobody is going to comply with any sort of lockdown any more once the warm weather comes, so it's going to spread round quickly again, especially if they start up air travel. I couldn't cope with the thought of another lockdown either so no judgement. I felt like there's no plan B, no realistic choice to not do it, this is what our government has decided to do so we all have to do it otherwise it won't work. Luckily I've had no side effects, hope it's the same for you and your family. I do feel relieved about being less likely to catch covid and less likely to be seriously ill if I do. I m tired of having to avoid everyone too.

Life what's an outdoor museum? Is it a bit like visiting a ruined castle?

Wolf how annoying about the present. Hopefully the next one arrives in time.

It should be a NSD today. Nothing exciting going on here.

ememem84 · 16/05/2021 09:01

amber yep. We have 2 cases here currently. Dh had his jab last week. He was fine. Bit of a sore arm but nothing major. Dparents we’re both fine.
It’s more the travel thing. Dhs family is in New Zealand. And they’re saying no one to enter the country without vaccines or a 14 day mandatory quarentine. I don’t fancy the idea of 14 days indoors with the kids. So vaccine it is. Dh won’t travel without the kids and two under 5 on a 26 hour flight won’t be fun on his own. And I’d miss them. So. Vaccine it is.

Anyway. It’s done now. Fingers crossed no side effects.

puppylambkins · 16/05/2021 09:32

Spendy recently - did a big H&M order for DS/DD1 as they need bigger stuff and I’ve got more books for Cagletini in charity shops and on eBay.

DD1 is 14 next month and I’m a bit stuck for presents for once! Definitely Harry Potter related stuff and I’ll get her some vouchers for various places in town like bubble tea.

I also want to go to the black country one and queen Mary tunnel under Edinburgh

SingToTheSky · 16/05/2021 16:29

Ooh excellent thanks MrsM :) I do need to go in there. Have been through DS’ clothes today and thankfully don’t need to buy him much more assuming his remaining trousers do fit as well as he says 🤣 have ordered pyjamas for DD1 on eBay too.

Taytocrisps · 16/05/2021 16:32

Had a fab. walk at the Gardens this morning. It was dull and overcast when I got there first but after a bit the sun came out and it was glorious. Really enjoyed the walk. I decided to take out annual membership for me and DD. It gives access to the gardens, waterfall and river walk. And 10% off in the shop - when it opens. I just did the gardens today. I'd to venture onto the motorway to get there which was a bit scary, but I left very early in the hope that the Sunday morning traffic would be light. I treated myself to a take away coffee and pastry when I got there as a reward for my bravery. But next time I'll bring my trusty flask and a packed lunch.

Spendy day but so worth it. It started raining just after I left, so I timed it perfectly. After I got home, the sky turned very dark and we had torrential rain and thunder.

Spends
€165 annual membership
€6.20 motorway toll
€5.85 pastry and coffee
€43.03 supermarket shop

Going to cook dinner in a bit and clean out the litter trays and then veg in front of the TV for the evening. I enjoyed 'Philomena' last night but the recording cut off before the movie ended Angry. Luckily I've read the book so I know what happens. It would be worse if I didn't know the story at all.

Welcome puppy

SnugglySnerd · 16/05/2021 16:41

Welcome Puppy.

Em a few of us went to some sort of hipster roller disco for cool youths a few years ago and my friend broke her arm!

Managed to dodge the rain today. Had a lovely morning out and picnic. The torrential rain started as we were on the way home.

lifelongfrugaleer · 16/05/2021 17:12

I might just be about to spend £1800 on a puppy. Eek
