Being reported by the Times today to try and encourage the uptake in younger people.

twitter.com/thetimes/status/1413755203183161347?s=21

I’m sure there’ll be many people along shortly to say how good it is, Covidiots, granny killers etc but this is the start of a slippery slope. It won’t just be pubs, clubs and restaurants it’ll soon go for everything.

OP posts:

I guess they are hoping for a rush of young people getting vaccinated in the next couple of months so have to keep providing a carrot as the holiday carrot didn't work as you still have to jump through many hoops to go anywhere.

ThenTheRain · 10/07/2021 09:41

I can’t get upset about this.

LightAsTheBreeze · 10/07/2021 09:42

A lot of these place will go out of business anyway so there won't be much choice, Wetherspoons or Wetherspoons.

RagzReturnsRebooted · 10/07/2021 09:43

@FlowerArranger

What will they do about tourists and others who were vaccinated abroad?

There is currently no way to transfer a foreign vaccination record to the NHS app, even if you have your vaccination card and vaccine batch numbers. I've tried but hit a brick wall - no can do...

I did it for someone the other day, so it must be possible. They sent us a photo of the card and we updated their records and it should now be showing on the app. (GP surgery).
Hairwizard · 10/07/2021 09:46

Bad times if they run with this bullshit idea . Never been needed for any other disease/virus.
People need to wake the fuck up.

Flowerlane · 10/07/2021 09:48

Can see riots happening again if this happens…

AlwaysLatte · 10/07/2021 09:52

I think it's a very good idea.

BIoodyStupidJohnson · 10/07/2021 09:56

I think this is a very bad idea.

(I also think there's a chance it's classic Tory culture war frothing for the weekend crowd, and may actually never happen.)

However, if it happens, it sets a terrible principle around stigmatising people around their own bodily autonomy. What next -- HIV-positive people banned from contact sports? Schools refuse to admit pupils whose parents are unvaccinated? Hospitals charge for treatment if you're drunk, or over a certain weight? Standard whataboutery, at one level, but once you've opened the stable door a horse gets out sooner or later.

FlowerArranger · 10/07/2021 09:57

I tried this. The surgery updated their records but insist that they cannot update the NHS record because they cannot access the NHS Pinaccle system. Sigh. I contacted the NHS Covid people twice and they insist that only the GP surgery can transfer my foreign vaccination record. I was told that there are lots of people in the same boat, including people who had one vaccination in England and the 2nd in Scotland! !

I have no idea whether this is correct, or whether I've just been unlucky and spoke to people who were unable or unwilling to help.

Hairwizard · 10/07/2021 09:57

@flowerlane

Protesting now illegal... conveniently for them..

FlowerArranger · 10/07/2021 10:00

The NHS is what they are suggesting people use for other stuff such as travel, not the card - which we know is flawed as not all have names printed etc. The NHS app has the vaccine travel pass etc already there and will be linked to your proper records.

I foresee more problems for myself. I have a double-barreled name which only appears on my passport. All my other records, including NHS, only show one name. Oh dear...

CantGetNoSleep73 · 10/07/2021 10:16

It's obvious one of Bojo's mates needs another big pay contract...
I said this would happen all along.

All coercion, have a jab watch the football at Wembley, have a jab no isolation coming back holiday.

Before we know it we will be wearing red cloaks and saying praised be!
I can't believe how so many are saying good, wtaf for???
You like being controlled? how does it make you feel any safer?
What a shit world we will live in if we are all scared by what MSM preaches
Shows what a shitshow it is when both
Pfizer and moderna have said have do cause heart issues, is it main news, is it bollocks, still have your jabs people. 🤦‍♀️
As I've said before covid death - tragedy,
Vaccine related - no fucks given

MrsSkylerWhite · 10/07/2021 10:21

ThenTheRain

“I can’t get upset about this.”

Nor I, it’s adapting to changed circumstances 🤷‍♀️

Flaxmeadow · 10/07/2021 10:22

What are the anti vaxers going to do? Walk up and down the street with placards saying 'let me in the pub now or else'. Throw a riot tantrum when they're refused entry

MaxNormal · 10/07/2021 10:23

And still no mention of any sort of exemption option. Can't have the vaccine, or bad reaction and can't have your second shot? Fuck you, banished.

Itsprobablynotcominghome · 10/07/2021 10:24

@Flowerlane

Can see riots happening again if this happens…
Again?
roguetomato · 10/07/2021 10:25

"You like being controlled? how does it make you feel any safer?"

No, this is totally opposite. I took vaccine so I can control my odds to minimise my risk of getting seriously ill or passing on to others, rather than take a chance with covid.

HermioneWeasley · 10/07/2021 10:33

It’s appalling, and pointless - can take public transport to the venue, mingle with people socially, car share and do all the things that we know are high risk of transmission, but can’t then go in the pub with your mates who you’ve driven there with? Pointless.

Comedycook · 10/07/2021 10:38

There won't be riots because they are very careful to introduce things slowly and make us feel grateful.

Just look at how the media is reporting about vaccine passports to go abroad. Instead of telling us that we will need them to travel freely, it's spun the other way...that we can now avoid quarantine if we have them. Making us grateful rather than resentful.

BluebellsGreenbells · 10/07/2021 10:41

Bad times if they run with this bullshit idea . Never been needed for any other disease/virus

Maybe not a virus but they banned smokers. Not seeing any different - those who want to be safe and be around like minded safe people and those who want to ban those who have refused vaccines

boobot1 · 10/07/2021 10:41

@Midwillowmum

I live in Denmark and we have been using Covid passports for restaurants/museums/attractions for ages. It’s second nature now and nobody complains. If you are not vaccinated, people just test twice a week to cover impromptu visits and it is all shown on the health app or Covid passport app. You just show it on entry to places. Perhaps the system is easier here than the U.K. but no-one makes a fuss, it’s just a process and life now. The upside is a relatively normal way of life now.
Omg nothing about that is normalShock
CantGetNoSleep73 · 10/07/2021 10:49

@roguetomato there is risk everywhere, even waking outside has risk.

I bet you would happily jab children/ dogs/cats whatever too 🤦‍♀️

What next no access to NHS? Are the going to do that for smokers/the obese/addicts?

If this was all about managing a virus then why are poorer counties being left in the shit.

It should be a fair playing field for all, how on earth will we ever get on top of it when not all countries have access to the same vaccine levels... oh is it because of money after all, and don't for one minute think the government give a shit about any of us. That's been clear since day one.

If you cannot see the dangerous precedent this is setting then wow...

byvirtue · 10/07/2021 10:50

On Monday 5 July, the Secretary of State for Health and Social Care Sajid Javid MP gave a statement to the House of Commons on covid-19. The Secretary of State updated MPs on the Government's plans for social restrictions and guidance from 19 July.

He also announced the outcome of the Government's review of domestic covid-status certification, also known as 'covid passports'. The Secretary of State confirmed the Government will not mandate the use of covid-status certification as a condition of entry for visitors to any setting, such as shops or events, at the present time.

Mabelene · 10/07/2021 10:51

I’m in Portugal and we now have to show a vaccine certificate or negative test to enter restaurants at the weekend, in areas with high numbers of cases. Fine by me

LightAsTheBreeze · 10/07/2021 10:51

It's getting to much bother to go anywhere, we only visit NT properties in the week as you don't have to book then, I can't be bothered to go into some shops because of masks and shop at Amazon instead, it has sucked the joy out of everything. I can't even be bothered to book a holiday abroad because of all the faff. Vaccine passports will just add to this.
