Covid passports for pubs, restaurants and clubs

Being reported by the Times today to try and encourage the uptake in younger people.

twitter.com/thetimes/status/1413755203183161347?s=21

I’m sure there’ll be many people along shortly to say how good it is, Covidiots, granny killers etc but this is the start of a slippery slope. It won’t just be pubs, clubs and restaurants it’ll soon go for everything.
@bumbleymummy when can you see it's not all about protect NHS or protect vulnerable anymore. Have you not seen what's happening? If it was that easy, it was over already. How can you justify unnecessary death to anyone?
What do you think is happening? What do you think this is about?

@BluebellsGreenbells no, she’s protecting herself. They’re not (as much of) a risk to her because she’s vaccinated. Why on Earth would you think she’s at higher risk after being vaccinated? Confused

roguetomato · 11/07/2021 15:52

@bumbleymummy why don't you take vaccine? Isn't that because you are unsure of the risk? If so, why are you easy to dismiss fear of covid of others? Both equally a reasonable worry?

bumbleymummy · 11/07/2021 16:02

@roguetomato why didn’t you answer my questions? What do you think is happening and what do you think this is about?

Abraxan · 11/07/2021 16:22

Where? I’ve travelled a lot and I don’t think I’ve ever had to have a compulsory vaccine to do so although some were recommended.

When I went to Kenya several years bak I needed proof of vaccination for Yellow Fever. We had to show our Yellow Card when we entered the country.

bumbleymummy · 11/07/2021 16:33

Covid isn’t yellow fever and I think it’s only a handful of countries that require it. I doubt people in any of those countries need to prove they’ve been vaccinated against it to go into a restaurant.

roguetomato · 11/07/2021 16:56

@bumbleymummy I didn't answr because I thought it was obvious. But obviously not.
What's happening is many people are getting infected and UK is heading into chaotic situation in the summer, and many people will be left with life long consequences or worst case, death.
What's all about is more political rather than reflection of reality.

Now, can you answer my question please?

lljkk · 11/07/2021 17:06

Yup, Denmark, the country where covid passports were welcomed peacefully.

Oh, wait...

Wasn't it in Denmark where there was a proposal to forcibly inject the vaccine into the vulnerable, using the police to assist if necessary?
bumbleymummy · 11/07/2021 17:13

Yes, many people are getting infected but, because we’ve vaccinated most of the people who are most likely to end up in hospital, it should not be chaotic.

No, I’m not taking the vaccine because I’m happy enough with the risk of covid. I do much riskier things on a daily basis without even thinking twice. I’ve never been overly worried about it.

noblegiraffe · 11/07/2021 17:15

You've not seen my thread where it's become apparent that the government forgot that people who have covid have to stay at home for at least 10 days and that this, in itself, will cause problems.

HalzTangz · 11/07/2021 17:19

This is already on the NHS (not the covid app) and has been for at least 4 weeks (that's when I first spotted it), I've been vaccinated so don't mind showing proof anywhere if I'm asked

MercyBooth · 11/07/2021 17:23

@XenoBitch its happened here

Covid hospitalisations are the lowest since September, the economy is booming and face masks were gone weeks ago. I don’t think articles written in March reflect the current situation accurately at all. The vaccine is not compulsory for anyone, including care home staff (unlike in GB). I’m mostly shocked to find that libraries and cultural centres seem to be shut in the UK, also the schools are in meltdown. I honestly don’t see how this is any more ‘free’ than having a corona pass. Seems bonkers. That said, gb does not have the organisation or team spiritedness to pull off a corona pass and I don’t think it’ll happen here.

Selectively chosen to ignore the stats about the impact on the health backlog then? Funny that Presume you're happy to do regular testing to help reduce the impact of the spread on others from isolation etc?
newstart1234 · 11/07/2021 18:51

That’s from November 2020 and the law was dropped

XenoBitch · 11/07/2021 18:52
That's the one. It was last year, and thankfully thrown out. Utterly terrifying that it was even being considered.
newstart1234 · 11/07/2021 18:58

Denmark has coalition governments which means deals between governing parties mean that laws are frequently brought to the parliament that in reality never get through; proposing the laws (by the majority party) is often a concession that is made with the supporting parties. See also - removing valuables from potential asylum seekers (never happened) and also locating a asylum application centre in Rwanda (may or may not happen). These things are often often politics and protesters make a real difference.

Understanding the context is everything.

This over and over.
Dave20 · 11/07/2021 19:05

Boris said the other week, that venues may choose to have a passport system. Or words to that effect.
Basically, venues will be able to have a passport system if they want to go that route, just the government isn’t making it compulsory so they can’t be held responsible.
Just like Boris saying people can choose to wear face coverings post 22nd July ( or whatever date it is).
I do believe covid passports will happen in many forms.

Dave20 · 11/07/2021 19:06

Ok fair enough, but that’s a slippery slope you’re going down. Why should you have to show proof, in a free country, even if you don’t mind doing so?

bumbleymummy · 11/07/2021 19:55

Selectively chosen to ignore the stats about the impact on the health backlog then?

You mean the backlog caused by COVID cases over the last year and exacerbated by double vaccinated hcps still having to isolate? (Thankfully being reviewed) yeah, I don’t think the small percentage of unvaccinated people ending up in hospital from COVID complications is the major issue.

roguetomato · 11/07/2021 20:25

@bumbleymummy Is this dr lying then?
