Getting Ready to TTC baby #2 (anyone else want to join?)

We are gearing up to TTC baby number 2 and I thought it might be nice to chat to others in the same boat :)

I'm 35 and have a DS who is 3, planning on starting TTC next month. We've been on the fence about it for a little while, but I'm finally starting to feel a bit excited (and terrified!) at the prospect of a second baby!

@DaisyEM 100%. My boobs were definitely more sore with DS and plus, I haven’t had proper cycles for so long I would have no idea what was normal for me anyway! Feeling much more positive, I’m going to have a testing break for a little while now. I have a work dinner this week with my boss so I’m going to have to tell her cause she’ll know the second I turn down a drink 🙈 not ideal!

DaisyEM · 25/06/2024 20:49

@GoldieMam glad you’re feeling positive ☺️ ah the not drinking thing is so tricky isn’t it! I’m confident my family would notice if I started turning down a glass of wine 😂 temptation got the better of me and I just tired a cheap strip teet. Very much a BFN 🤦🏻‍♀️

Morning everyone,

I'm 11DPO today and still no sign of AF, although I'm expecting it'll arrive tomorrow.

Did another test this morning but not with FMU. Still very much a BFN, so surely not even a faint line at 11DPO means I'm out? I got my BPF with our first at 10DPO, although it was faint. The only thing that's unusually for me, and sorry if TMI, but last two days I've had thick stringy CM. That's got my hopes up a bit but I think given the BFN I'm probably out for this month!

Morning!

10 dpo here tested again and negative 💔

@DaisyEM it's a hard one, googling gives you a bit of both some say it can be too early and implantation can happen later delaying positive tests, but lots of people seem to get lines at 9 dpo 🤷🏼‍♀️

DaisyEM · 26/06/2024 11:32

@km9371 ah sorry to hear you're getting negatives too. Like I said above I had a proper positive with #1 at 10dpo, and that was after a faint line on 9dpo. I guess it just depends when implantation happens and how quickly HGC rises.

I think AF might have got me. I've had a tiny bit of spotting and BFN, so it looks like that's probably me out for this month 😢

OP posts:
DaisyEM · 26/06/2024 13:33

Well now I'm not sure what to think as the spotting just happened a couple of times and it was more a bit of blood in CM, whereas usually when i get spotting the day before AF it's bright pink on the tissue and throughout the day

OP posts:
DaisyEM · 26/06/2024 13:34

Seems too late for implantation bleeding though?

Seems too late for implantation bleeding though?

With my first baby I thought that I had my period but it turned out to be implantation bleeding, it didn't start until my period was due!

DaisyEM · 26/06/2024 15:13

@km9371 ahh that’s good to know, thanks! I’m still expecting AF to arrive in full force tomorrow though, as surely a negative test plus spotting aren’t good signs 😂 I feel like at least I’ll have a better idea of what’s going on tomorrow if AF does arrive x

OP posts:
DaisyEM · 26/06/2024 17:23

Nothing more came of that tiny bit of spotting, so maybe I am still within a chance?! Only issue is I have a yoga class tonight and there are some poses you’re not meant to do in pregnancy. I don’t know whether to say something to the instructor or not or just try and be careful with any twists 🤔 I did pregnancy yoga previously, so I sort of know what I should and shouldn’t do. I know it probably sounds silly to worry about it at 11DPO, but the ‘pregnancy safe’ stuff applies from the first trimester with yoga

@DaisyEM

I don't believe any modifications are required at this stage in pregnancy and many of pregnancies would be unknown at this stage. You should be fine to participate. Don't do anything that makes you uncomfortable!

Superscientist · 26/06/2024 18:24

Hi can I join in, sorry I have only read the first couple and last pages.

My first is 4 in August and we are TTC our second. It has taken a long time to get here. I had severe treatment resistant depression and psychosis that took 2 years to recover and led to me spending 10 weeks in a mother and baby unit. from after my first and she has multiple food allergies and severe silent reflux (a big factor in my depression). We started discussing a second when she turned 3 but she was going through a bad reflux flare and sleeping like a newborn only asleep when being held and even then waking every 40 minutes. It has taken 8 months to change my meds to ones suitable to conceive on and some counselling with my HV to feel ready. I stopped contraception 2 months ago. We are currently on holiday with our in laws and my period is 3 days late. The earliest I can take a test is Saturday evening/Sunday morning when we get back to the UK. I'm currently in limbo avoiding alcohol and lovely soft cheeses just in case! There's no way of sneaking off to the pharmacy.
I had kind of hoped for another few months to make sure it still felt right! I certainly feel hopeful rather than dread which I think is a positive sign!

DaisyEM · 26/06/2024 21:56

@km9371 thanks so much, I went and it was a gentle class anyway with the heat!

@Superscientist Hi, lovely to have you join :) so sorry to hear you had such a rough time, no wonder it's taken you so long to start to feel ready again. It took me three years after a tough pregnancy/birth and newborn experience. My son had silent reflux too and needed to be held while he slept 24/7 also, the sleep deprivation was crippling! So sorry to hear your LO still struggles with silent reflux, for my son it's not a problem anymore, but he still doesn't sleep through. I think you can definitely take the fact that you feel hopefully as a positive sign, even if you're not pregnant this time around, at least how you feel now will hopefully give you some confidence that it's the right thing x

AF arrived this morning. I don’t know why I’m disappointed as it was only cycle 1! I guess I was hoping it would happen quickly this time because of my cycles being regular, instead of the 8 cycles it took before. At least I know my LP is 11 days though so should be fine ☺️

I think it’s always disappointing. I’m now quite sure I’m having a chemical. 16 dpo and vvfl this morning. I promised myself I wouldn’t test but here we are 💔

DaisyEM · 27/06/2024 07:54

@GoldieMam ah I’m so sorry, that’s not a nice place for you to be. I guess only time will tell and hopefully your lines will get darker. Did you say you’ve had a chemical before? It’s so tricky isn’t it as you know if you test early this could happen, but then you just want to know if you’re pregnant or not and temptation gets the better of you. To be fair I’m sure you would have tested by 16DPO anyway and got that faint line.

For me at least DH isn’t away during my FW this cycle! The only slight issue is it’s DS’s 3rd birthday a day or two before ovulation, and we have people staying 🤦🏻‍♀️ I think ovulation will be on the Sunday (CD18), and his party is on the Saturday. Family are just saying the Friday, so hopefully I can convince DH to DTD Saturday evening and he’s not too tired from the day 😂

OP posts:
Blue2020 · 27/06/2024 09:56

@Superscientist that sounds like you have all been through a lot. Good luck with ttc #2, hopefully you might get a bfp then soon when you can test.

@DaisyEM oh no, hopefully you will manage to catch ovulation, you could try on the Friday night and then Sunday and that way it’s still covered incase you are both tired from the Saturday? It sounds like you have a similar length to me if you ovulate around day 18. Good luck with this new cycle.

I have decided to do bbt and lh tests. I started bbt two days ago and lh yesterday. I started to get lots of cervical mucus yesterday but I’m still at least 7 days away from ovulating and I used to only have 5-6 days of cm until ovulation so it’s slightly early. In the months I previously tracked I have never ovulated before day 18. That said this is after a csection so I don’t know if a birth can alter my cycle length? I guess I will find out. Maybe I just produce more cm now or for a longer time, or something is wrong.

Superscientist · 27/06/2024 10:14

Thanks @DaisyEM

When we were TTC my daughter it took a few months to settle into the potential reality.
The first month I got my period I was relieved, the second month I felt neither happy or sad and the third I was disappointed. We conceived on the fourth. I was kind of expecting the same this time around.

I'm sorry it's not happened for you this month, fingers crossed for next month!

Silent reflux is the worst! I think I would definitely be more forthright about getting adequate treatment this time around much quicker. She also had mild actual reflux and it was only this that the GP was treating

Superscientist · 27/06/2024 11:27

Sorry I didn't see your reply @Blue2020

Thank you!

My cycles and everything got messed up after having my daughter. I went back on the mini pill and switched from having a couple of days bleeding a year to a 14 day cycle which was most annoying! I know they aren't real cycles but hormones can be tricky beasts!
I also had bacterial vaginosis around the same time and that was diagnosed based on excess discharge and following swaps. If it's not normal for you it wouldn't hurt to have a chat with your GP

Blue2020 · 27/06/2024 13:13

@Superscientist that might be an idea actually, in my early 20s I had BV. So maybe it’s not part of the cycle causing it. The only tricky part is my gp hardly sees anyone, it’s incredibly hard to get an appointment. Would BV cause any issues with conceiving/pregnancy do you know?

I had my son and then once my period returned I went on the mini pill again. I have just stopped it in May, and had my first period. I did just get more cramping in the tww between ovulation and period than I’m used to though. I’m hoping it’s just my body getting used to periods and the hormones again.

Blue2020 · 27/06/2024 13:41

@Superscientist I just searched about BV, hopefully it isn’t and it’s just my fertile window but I will try to visit the gp.

Superscientist · 27/06/2024 14:43

It wasn't something on my radar at the time sorry. They originally thought it could be thrush so there are other things too. I had a 7 day course of antibiotics and that was it. It was the 14 day cycle that triggered the exam and that's when she saw I had a lot of discharge.

DaisyEM · 27/06/2024 21:18

@Superscientist thank you, DH was working away for ovulation this month anyway, so the best we could do was 3 days before. Fingers crossed we can time it better this month. Did you say you can’t test until Saturday? How are you feeling about waiting?

Oh that sounds awful with the acid reflux. My son was under a consultant at our local hospital until he was 5 months old (for other reasons), so I found it relatively easy to get a prescription for him. We only tried Gaviscon though and to be honest I only tried it a few times before I concluded that it didn’t help and gave up. Sounds crazy, but we had so much medical intervention with him from day one that I was desperate not to add to the tests and medication etc and just struggled on without, and eventually it did get better. Health wise he’s absolutely fine now, just doesn’t sleep well still!

@Blue2020 Friday is the evening we have family staying, so I think our best bet is Saturday, or failing that (if we are tired) then Sunday, which is O day. I try not to put the pressure on DH so I don’t actually tell him when I’m in my FW, and it all of a sudden it wanted to DTD 2 days in a row or even every other day he would know something was going on 😅

Just to comment on the getting lots of CM/BV stuff. Is it just around ovulation that you’re getting lots of CM? Or through your whole cycle? According to google you’re meant to get less days or EWCM as you get older, but I still get 4-5 days and I’m 35, so may just be normal for you too? With BV, you’d definitely want to get it treated while TTC/there’s a potential that you could be pregnant. It’s basically that your PH levels are off and so that may not be very sperm friendly. But also I had BV in my first trimester (it caused bleeding which was a horrible experience) and I had to take antibiotics to get rid of it. If left untreated in can be risky in pregnancy, just like any lower infection might be, like a UTI for example.

OP posts:
Blue2020 · 27/06/2024 23:24

@DaisyEM oh im the same with dh, i dont tell him when im close to ovulation to avoid any pressure. So I understand about not increasing DTD.

I would say it’s increased in the last few days to be very noticeable, it’s just a bit too early for it. I still have at least 7 days until the predicted ovulation if not longer. It’s clear cm that I see on the toilet paper. My last cycle it increased for a handful of days as I expected it to but in the tww I still had a very very small amount of cm. Not dry but only a tiny amount. So the amount has increased in the last few days, just more than I expected at this point.

Blue2020 · 27/06/2024 23:39

Actually just to add it’s not all the time, so when I went to the toilet there was only trace of cm, so maybe it builds up and it’s my body getting ready to ovulate in several days time?
