Getting Ready to TTC baby #2 (anyone else want to join?)

DaisyEM · 16/05/2024 20:38

We are gearing up to TTC baby number 2 and I thought it might be nice to chat to others in the same boat :)

I'm 35 and have a DS who is 3, planning on starting TTC next month. We've been on the fence about it for a little while, but I'm finally starting to feel a bit excited (and terrified!) at the prospect of a second baby!

@GoldieMam do you do OPK tests more than once a day? Got a negative on one about 2hrs ago, so now I don't really know what to think. I was really hoping I would get a positive today and tomorrow would be O day. Think if it's not our changes for this month probably aren't great.

Hi! I just had a quick read through this thread. I'm TTC #2 also after having surgery in Feb for a MMC at 12 weeks. (Baby was measuring 8). I have a 3 year old and expected a positive ovulation test today but it's negative. Hoping I'll get it later so similar timings to you @DaisyEM. I really hope this is the cycle for us, I've been so stressed since my MC and panicking something is wrong as I've not got pregnant since.

DaisyEM · 13/06/2024 13:54

@jellyfish2 oh I'm so sorry to hear about your loss, that must have been so distressing and I can totally appreciate why you'd be anxious now! Ah rubbish you've also had a negative OPK today, will you test again later today? I'm CD16 already but I'm pretty confident I ovulate on CD17-18. Fingers crossed we both get that positive today or tomorrow. Will be nice to have someone else in the TWW together too :) my DH is away now, so if ovulation is actually CD18 for me think our changes will be quite low as we DTD CD15, but you never know 🙂

OP posts:
jellyfish2 · 13/06/2024 14:03

@DaisyEM thank you. I wouldn't wish the experience on my worst enemy.
I'm CD19 and normally ovulate CD20 so I'll test again in an hour or so and see how it's looking but may be CD21 this month 🙈. I hate the TWW!
I was listening to a podcast and the fertility woman was saying that in general sperm live 3 days although it can be up to 5 so you never know!

DaisyEM · 13/06/2024 14:10

@jellyfish2 very true! I've been googling stats on the likelihood of pregnancy for each day in the run up to ovulation to try and figure out our chances 😂that's funny we both ovulate late in our cycles. Do you have a long cycle? Mine is 29 days so means only an LP of 11-12 days, but hopefully that should be long enough! It was shorter when we were TTC before but I managed to lengthen it taking all sorts of supplements! I got my BFP with DS on 10DPO anyway, so I think anything above 10 days should be fine. I think I'm going to try another OPK now! Probably totally pointless given the last one was only 2 hours ago.

OP posts:
jellyfish2 · 13/06/2024 14:17

@DaisyEM yeah mine is usually 31 days so my lp is about 11 days too. I conceived my son fine with this so I don't think that is an issue. Conceived the last two pregnancies first time with opks so it's frustrating it's not happening quickly this time I got positives about 10dpo too, infact the last one I had a faint one in the evening at 9dpo.

DaisyEM · 13/06/2024 14:20

@jellyfish2 as I thought, taking another OPK was pointless 😂yes exactly, I think an 11 day LP is fine. When did you start TTC again after your loss? What cycle will this be now? Yes I was the same! Super faint line at 9DPO with DS, so just goes to show implantation can happen earlier x

OP posts:
jellyfish2 · 13/06/2024 14:23

So I started straight away as I was desperate to be pregnant (all the hormones and grief I think). I started spotting and wondered if it was implantation and I had a positive frer but the bleeding got a bit heavier so it was a period. I don't know if it was a faulty test but it was such a mind f*ck that my DP and I decided to take a month off. I was convinced I would get pregnant last month as we dtd around ovulation etc but no. So this is technically my 3rd cycle trying and my 4th since the MC. What cycle are you on? I'm trying preseed this cycle too.

Samthenanny · 13/06/2024 14:28

Hi bit late to the group, I’m 37 and ttc. I’ve got a little one who’s 20 months. I’d been on the pill for about 15 years came off it and 2 month of trying we fell pregnant so hoping for similar this time around.
I came off the pill in March had a withdrawal bleed about 6 weeks later and I’m waiting for my first natural period which should be this weekend.
I’ve already convinced myself I might be pregnant as my nipples are tingling like when you’re about to have a let down but I tested Tuesday and it was a BFN.
Will start to track ovulation on my next cycle

DaisyEM · 13/06/2024 14:34

Ah I'm sorry that was how things went straight after your surgery, taking a month off sounds like it was the right thing to do. I totally get what you mean - like this month I feel like as long as we've DTD within three days of ovulation I'll surely get pregnant right, but I guess it's not that easy. These are the stats that I saw earlier...

5 days before ovulation 10%
4 days before ovulation 16%
3 days before ovulation 14%
2 days before ovulation 27%
1 day before ovulation 31%
Ovulation day 33%

So even if you time it perfectly, there's still only a 30% chance at the very best. I was so sure I would fall pregnant quickly when we were TTC DS, but it still took 8 months. I was so worried there was something wrong by that point. I do feel the same as you though in that I'm expecting to get pregnant quickly this time. Hopefully it doesn't take long for either of us!

OP posts:
DaisyEM · 13/06/2024 14:36

@Samthenanny hi :) exciting you've taken that step to come off of the pill and start TTC! Haha I totally get the symptom spotting, I'm not sure I've even ovulated at this point and I'm already symptom spotting! Hopefully you find that you fall pregnant quickly like last time. It took us 8 months last time but my cycles were massively out of whack after coming off of the pill. This time I didn't go back on the pill, so I'm hoping that works in my favour as my cycles are regular x

OP posts:
jellyfish2 · 13/06/2024 14:36

@DaisyEM gosh when you look at those stats I suppose it makes sense. I must just have been very lucky the last two times! I guess that doesn't take ages into account either, I'm 36 now. How old are you? What cycle is this for you?

DaisyEM · 13/06/2024 14:42

@jellyfish2 they don't make for great reading do they! But then it makes sense why NHS say up to a year is normal, because each month you near enough have a 1 in 4 chance if your timing is good, and then I guess the rest of the time accounts for timing being off etc. I'm 36 too :) and my DS is just about to turn 3. This is only cycle 1 for us! I started this thread last month as I guess I was struggling to wait and it felt nice to at least be talking about it while we waited for the next month to come around 🙂

OP posts:
GoldieMam · 13/06/2024 14:44

@DaisyEM no I just did one a day, around late morning/early afternoon. Oh god those stats are a bit depressing! I guess I was very lucky last time.

@jellyfish2 so sorry for your loss. I can imagine that makes the whole experience so much more stressful. I hope you’re recovering ok.

@Samthenanny welcome!! You never know, maybe test again at the weekend if AF doesn’t arrive?

Oh we are very similar, my DS just turned 3 a couple of weeks ago. Hopefully you fall pregnant quickly this time since you've been having regular cycles x

DaisyEM · 13/06/2024 14:56

@jellyfish2 ah that's nice that lots of things align with us, including hopefully the TWW!

@GoldieMam I'll give up for today then and will try again tomorrow. I'll be a bit disappointed if I get a positive tomorrow as will mean ovulation probably CD18, and according to those stats I'd only be within a 14% chance for this month 😂I'm hoping maybe I missed my peak as only started testing yesterday!

Sophi123 · 13/06/2024 16:03

Hi - jumping on this thread too. I’m 37 with a 3 year old DS and we also decided to try for a 2nd this month (held off quite a while as our first was premature and felt bit scared about going through it again).

Anyway we DTD twice this month (once 2 days before ovulation once on day of - I think as hadn’t done OPKs this month so just what Flo predicted). Anyway today is DPO14 / day period is due and just had been feeling a bit off but couldn’t tell if PMS or what. Anyway I’ve got a v v clear positive pregnancy test 😱😱

obviously delighted and surprised to have it happen so quickly but only me that knows at moment. Also only 4 weeks and had a MC about 6 before I conceived my son last time so being only cautiously optimistic for now.

Hope my experience provides bit of optimism for you all and hope it works out (for me and you all!)

DaisyEM · 13/06/2024 16:14

@Sophi123 hi :) I have felt the same as you (pregnancy complications, induced labour, traumatic forceps delivery and then a poorly DS with lots of tests etc until he was 5 months old). Only now that he's almost 3 do I feel ready (ish 😅). So sorry to hear your experience with your first wasn't an easy one.

Thanks so much for sharing your news!!! How exciting, have you told your OH yet?! That's definitely gives me hope, although we've only managed to DTD once during the FW as DH is now away with work. Big congrats, bet it will take a while to sink in!!

OP posts:
jellyfish2 · 13/06/2024 16:48

@Sophi123 how exciting!! Congratulations to you 🥰

Sophi123 · 13/06/2024 17:32

No haven’t told my OH yet - you’re the first people I’ve told 😂😂. Trying to decide whether I can hold out to Father’s Day or will just cave and tell him when home tonight. Yeah is quite a shock when took us so long to decide to try again and then it’s happened so quickly. Both really pleased and super anxious already!!

Redapple21 · 13/06/2024 19:55

And now after days of nausea it seems to have gone away in the last hour (after eating). Instead of enjoying the relief, I'm now worrying and probably willing it to return! 🙈🙈

Sorry wrong thread and won't let me delete!

Still following this wishing you all lots of good luck for this cycle xx

Blue2020 · 13/06/2024 20:03

I wish I had tracked ovulation now, mostly to know where I am in the cycle. I might be 9dpo but I’m also getting mild cramps yesterday and today so AF might be sooner than I think.

I have an Apple Watch now. To track the cycle ai assume you need to wear it over night? If so when do you charge it, in the early evening instead?

Alifemadelessordinary · 13/06/2024 20:07

Hello all!

I've decided to jump on if that's ok.

Congratulations @Sophi123

I'm 34 with a 2.5 year old. This is our third month trying but only the first I've managed to target ovulation with OPKs.

We got pregnant on the 2nd cycle with my first but my health isn't what it was so I'm anticipating it will take a much longer this time around.

We're taking a two month break now as I'm a bridesmaid in April next year.

I'm 3dpo according to my app. Despite DTD the day before and day of, I'm not holding out much hope as I've come down with the most awful cold. Me and the hubby were up 8 times with DD last night as she's poorly too. It did make me question if we'd cope 😂

DaisyEM · 13/06/2024 20:30

@Sophi123 did you manage to resist telling him this evening?! Would be so lovely to tell him on Father's Day wouldn't it, but I'm not sure I could hold it in 😂

@Blue2020 my Apple Watch isn't advanced enough to do BBT, but yes you definitely need to wear it over night to chart BBT. I wear mine over night anyway as I'm always curious to see how many times my DS actually wakes me up 😅last night it was 7! Yep I charge mine in the evening once DS has gone to bed, and then put it back on before I go to sleep.

@Alifemadelessordinary hi 🙂it sounds like you've covered this month pretty well so you never know. I've never really considered if getting a cold etc could stop you falling pregnant tbh! It's rough when they are ill isn't it, my DS is full of a cold too. Mine still wakes around 2 times on a good night, so I do have moments where I think adding a baby into the mix is probably a very bad idea! But I've waited all this time in hope he might sleep through and still no luck, so I've given up and decided to just go for it 😅
