Getting Ready to TTC baby #2 (anyone else want to join?)

We are gearing up to TTC baby number 2 and I thought it might be nice to chat to others in the same boat :)

I'm 35 and have a DS who is 3, planning on starting TTC next month. We've been on the fence about it for a little while, but I'm finally starting to feel a bit excited (and terrified!) at the prospect of a second baby!

@Blue2020 I think it needs to be a series 8 or later and you need to wear it overnight (preferably on the inside of your wrist) with the sleep focus set. It’ll take your temp when your sleep focus ends. It’s been pretty good for me so far and has detected my BBT rise 2 days after peak OPK.

@Alifemadelessordinary @DaisyEM I have had my doubts about whether we’re doing the right thing trying for number 2! Particularly when DS is up super early or having a tricky bedtime. But i think we’d wait till he was 30 if we were thinking like that 😂

DaisyEM · 14/06/2024 09:20

@GoldieMam exactly! There's only so long you can wait, until you have to decide just to go for it and deal with the consequences later 😂

Hoping I get a positive OPK this morning, otherwise I don't know what's going on! If it's negative it'll either mean I started testing too late (preferable in a way as better timing with our only opportunity to DTD), but also that doesn't make sense with my EWCM, or means I'm ovulating later than I thought which may mean short LP (this was the case last time we were TTC). Fingers crossed I get a nice dark line today!

Got my positive OPK! So I guess ovulation will probably be tomorrow. I feel like I should sort of count myself out for this cycle as will mean we DTD CD15 with ovulation on CD18, but it was in the evening, so I guess sort of 2.5 days before ovulation. Anyway, I don't think my chances are particularly high. Super annoying DH went away for work yesterday!

GoldieMam · 14/06/2024 12:00

@DaisyEM yey for positive OPK! Don’t count yourself out yet, stranger things have happened. Does he work away lots?
I must be loosing my mind, my boobs feel really sore and heavy today but it’s only 3dpo so it has to be in my head.

DaisyEM · 14/06/2024 12:22

@GoldieMam very true. To be fair Google says sperm can live up to 5 days, but I think they would have to be very strong swimmers! It took us 8 months to conceive last time, so I’m not hopeful for this cycle considering the timing isn’t great. We shall see ☺️

It’s so tricky not to symptom spot isn’t it! To be fair I get painful/heavy boobs after ovulation anyway. For me not having painful boobs would be a sign 😂

jellyfish2 · 14/06/2024 13:05

@DaisyEM that's great you got your positive opk. I still haven't had one! Not sure what's going on. I don't know if working nightshift this week has messed it up.

DaisyEM · 14/06/2024 13:25

@jellyfish2 ahh so frustrating! Fingers crossed you only have to wait another day or two. Keep us posted!

Sophi123 · 14/06/2024 13:39

@DaisyEM you are right that I caved and told him last night! Loved the idea of keeping it to myself until Father’s Day but was driving myself mad after only about 10 hours of knowing!!

He was like me really - mix of shock that it had happened so fast, excitement, but sadly quite a lot of anxiety about whether it will stick or not and how the pregnancy will go if so given previous MC, pregnancy experience and now being “old” too.

So trying to stay optimistic but not get carried away - hard not to though!

Blue2020 · 14/06/2024 16:33

@DaisyEM 2.5 days is definitely within the window, you should be covered.

@GoldieMam i have the series 9. I tried wearing it last night but I only managed until 3am before I got annoyed. I haven’t worn a watch in years so it’s just getting used to it again.

@Sophi123 congratulations.

I have had cramping again this morning. I can’t remember now how long I have cramps for before AF turns up. It’s been a while. The last time when I conceived ds I remember having one moment of stomach cramps a few days before but that was one moment whereas this has been days of cramping more in line with AF. So it’s just waiting for AF now. I will be curious to know how far out I was with predicting ovulation though. I think it’s anytime between now and Tuesday (I predicted/hoped Tuesday because we DTD once on that day (two weeks ago) but more than likely it was a day or two before that.

DaisyEM · 14/06/2024 20:26

@Sophi123 ahh so nice that he knows now though. Understandable that it's anxiety inducing for both of you, but nice you feel excited too amidst the nerves!

@Blue2020 thanks 🙂I guess I will be in the TWW very soon then! Hopefully you timed it right, but at least if not it will provide you with a bit more guidance for next month. I was thinking that earlier - if we aren't successful this month, at least I'm pretty confident of when I ovulate for next month! For me it's just nice to have a regular cycle this time around, after my cycle ranging anywhere from 40-70 days last time!

Morning all ☺️ I actually think ovulation was yesterday for me 🤞🏼 my CM has dried up this morning and at around 9pm I felt a ‘pop’ on my left side. I’m hoping this was the case as O on CD17 puts me within a pretty good chance for this cycle. So I’ll assume I’m in the TWW now!

How’s everyone today? @jellyfish2 hope you get your positive OPK today x

OP posts:
jellyfish2 · 15/06/2024 10:21

@DaisyEM that's great, now just the dreaded tww to wait out.

Still not positive but with fmu which you aren't meant to use for some reason, it's went up to .32 but I'll check again after a 3 hour hold. It's so frustrating, today is cd21 I've never ovulated so late so I don't know what's going on 😭

DaisyEM · 15/06/2024 16:04

@jellyfish2 so annoying for you 😖 hope you get your positive today xx

My period just started, which also means I completely missed the window and had zero chance. I think I will track this next cycle so we have a chance at least.

GoldieMam · 17/06/2024 12:58

@Blue2020 ah I’m sorry. I had a weird short cycle last month after getting my hormonal coil removed, I don’t think I even ovulated tbh! That’s what made me want to track this cycle too

StampOnTheGround · 17/06/2024 14:50

Hello!

I'm on cycle 1 of TTC number 2, I'm 30 with a 2 year old son!

My cycles range from 25-33 days and I'm currently on day 29 of our first month trying. We've either caught first time luckily or I think I completely missed the boat if it was a 33 day cycle - guess we'll know in a few days 😂

Fingers crossed for us all!

km9371 · 18/06/2024 10:00

@StampOnTheGround hopeful for you!! When will you test?

Hope everyone is having a nice June! I'm on 2dpo - my least favourite half of the cycle 😂

We dtd as much as possible this cycle, I used ovulation tests three times a day and honestly I'm a bit burnt out from it.

DaisyEM · 18/06/2024 16:12

@km 3DPO here, how are you holding up? It’s painfully slow isn’t it 😂

OP posts:
DaisyEM · 18/06/2024 16:14

@StampOnTheGround welcome ☺️ that’s quite a variation on your cycle length isn’t it. Are you doing much to track when ovulation is? My cycles are almost always 29 days, which I’m thankful for as when I was TTC #1 they were completely haywire the full 8 months we were TTC x

@Blue2020 sorry AF came, what are you thinking of doing to track ovulation for this next cycle?

OP posts:
StampOnTheGround · 19/06/2024 03:20

Thank you @km9371 - I think I'll test CD35 if it gets there, which would be Monday I think?

Thanks @DaisyEM 😊 no, nothing to track ovulation just trying to do it regularly during the month! It worked out well with my son, if nothing happens after 6 months I think I'll end up doing all the tracking haha!

DaisyEM · 19/06/2024 12:54

@StampOnTheGround I think a relaxed approach early on is a good plan ☺️ I’m definitely trying to be more chilled this time than I was with DS! But I am doing OPKs around when ovulation usually is.

@rosepetalbee hi ☺️ I wasn’t planning on using OPKs for this first cycle either but I caved a few days before I thought I would ovulate 😂 I was charting BBT with DS but I’m not going to do that this time, mostly because DS doesn’t sleep well so I don’t think it would work if I’ve been up 2-3 times in the night 😅 great that your cycles are now regular, mine are too (after being all over the place when we were TTC DS1). It’s making me feel like it won’t take as long this time as it did with our first…but I might be being too optimistic 😂

OP posts:
Blue2020 · 19/06/2024 16:06

@DaisyEM thankyou. I will likely just use the lh ovulation tests. I also now have an Apple Watch so I might see what that says for my wrist temperature over the next few cycles.
Good luck with the next several days, I hope you get good news.

gormlessgoldilocks · 19/06/2024 19:09

I'm back here after a chemical on Monday 🥺 been a difficult few days but my attitude has changed! I won't be tracking ovulation or anything anymore just using Flo and see what happens

Concernedkay · 19/06/2024 19:16

Hey everyone 👋🏼 I'm hoping to start trying for my second soon but this time I have hypothyroidism after being diagnosed 7 months postpartum. Is anyone in the same boat? Or has been and can give me their experience? X

DaisyEM · 19/06/2024 21:24

@gormlessgoldilocks ohh I’m so sorry to hear this. Glad you’re feeling ok now though. That sounds like a great plan x
