Getting Ready to TTC baby #2 (anyone else want to join?)

We are gearing up to TTC baby number 2 and I thought it might be nice to chat to others in the same boat :)

I'm 35 and have a DS who is 3, planning on starting TTC next month. We've been on the fence about it for a little while, but I'm finally starting to feel a bit excited (and terrified!) at the prospect of a second baby!

@rosepetalbee you'll have to let me know how you get on with the BBT plus the not sleeping great. Sadly my Apple Watch is too old a version to track my temperature 😅

@Concernedkay hi ☺️ do you know what your TSH result was? My thyroid is on the sluggish side (but not bad enough to medicate), and I know even that can affect fertility 🤦🏻‍♀️ are you on medication to help bring your TSH down? Hopefully you’ll find if medicated you won’t have any trouble with TTC ☺️

Hi 😊 yes my last blood test 5 months ago was 1.26 so quite optimal, I'm having another blood test next month before I start trying to make sure it's still within range. I'm on 75mcg levo. What was your tsh of you don't mind me asking? X

DaisyEM · 19/06/2024 22:10

@Concernedkay ah that’s great, hopefully it won’t impact TTC in anyway then. At my last blood test it was 2.9, so not awful but still not ideal. Explains why I’m always cold/tired 😂

P.s @Concernedkay do you mind me asking what yours was before starting medication?

Oh really, I read that the ideal for TTC is below 2.5 and ideally closer to 1. Once you've conceived ask to get it checked again because it can go up, so just make sure if it does and it's not ideal that they medicate you x

Mine was 10 and then they waited a month to see if it was just the post partum type that goes back to normal and it went into the 40s 😩

DaisyEM · 20/06/2024 11:31

@Concernedkay I meant that yours being 1.26 now you're on medication won't impact TTC 😊I guess maybe mine could do, we are only on cycle 1 so I won't stress about it just yet. Hopefully it won't be an issue as not like it's super high, at least from my last test anyway. Thank you, I will definitely keep an eye on it. I know when we conceived last time it was something I was worried about so the midwife checked it early on and it had actually come down. Wish I had access to all those bloods now so I could see what the situation was when we were TTC before as I can't really remember! Oh wow 40 is crazy high isn't it! You must have felt awful!?

Hi lovely, yeah sorry I meant about yours being over the recommended level for ttc but there is a lot of posters who have said they conceived at levels up to 5 so yes defo don't worry but definitely ask for another blood test once you do conceive 😊

Oh gosh I felt terrible but would never have guessed thyroid levels as I had lost so much weight not the opposite. I originally went to the Drs over hair loss x

DaisyEM · 20/06/2024 20:03

@Concernedkay it was a similar level when we conceived our first, so I won’t panic just yet 😅 it’s definitely something I’ll think about though if I find it’s taking us a while to conceive. That’s crazy isn’t it! Were you breastfeeding? I ended up going 7lb below my pre birth weight by around 6 months after having DS and that was 100% down to BF. Thank god your TSH got picked up! Did you have issues with your thyroid before you had your baby at all? Mine has always been on the sluggish side x

Yes! It was the breastfeeding! I couldn't keep up with having the extra calories 😂 he weaned himself at about 18 months so I've only just started gaining weight again, he's nearly 2. I know I was so lucky it was picked up wasn't expecting at all, my thyroid has never been flagged up as sluggish and I've always had good metabolism so it was a shock.

DaisyEM · 21/06/2024 09:09

@Concernedkay haha, I sort of loved that side effect of breastfeeding! I could eat whatever I wanted and the weight just kept dropping off. With my thyroid being on the sluggish side I can't say I notice that it impacts me massively. Like you my metabolism is fine (BMI of 21), but I have always needed more sleep than your average person (gutting for me that my nearly 3YO is low sleep needs and still wakes 2-3 times a night 😂). And like I said I've always been on the colder side and my skin is a little dry.

I'm 6DPO now, it's going soooo slowly. I'm starting to worry too about how I'll deal with the fact that I have to cosleep at least half the night with my son when pregnant. He unintentionally kicks me in the tummy when wriggling around. I'd really like to try and stop having to cosleep as much, but at this point I've tired all sorts, so I think the reality is I will just have to use a pregnancy pillow or something to sort of separate myself from him in bed. Starting to think TTC with this scenario is a bad plan!

@DaisyEM I'm breastfeeding my LO and struggling to drop any weight at all 🤦🏼‍♀️ I probably weigh the same as I did the day before he was born 😂

Do you have a side car cot set up? I've been trying to encourage him to sleep in there a bit more, last night was really successful he only came to me to feed and then shuffled back in! It's nice because we can still hold hands

Alifemadelessordinary · 22/06/2024 07:28

Morning all!
I'm really not quite sure what to think about this to be honest.
I was almost certain we were out this month I did a test at 8/9/10dpo (I was having awful symptoms) and nothing. Anyway I'm 12dpo this morning and just thought I'd check.

FMU but I couldn't read it after 3 minutes as little one was crying. So I came back to this about 40 minutes later and there's a line. I'd be convinced it was an evap if any of the other ones had done this but I've used these tests for the past three months and never had an evap line. I'm weird and I stick them in a little notebook 😂

I've got a FRER but obviously it won't be FMU.

Thoughts? Obviously I'll test again in the morning but I'm meant to be going for cocktails with the girls today so I'm not sure what to do.

Alifemadelessordinary · 22/06/2024 07:29

Photo would help wouldn't it ...

ETA ... Nevermind it's not letting me upload the photo for some reason. 😂

DaisyEM · 22/06/2024 15:05

@Alifemadelessordinary ahhh super annoying you can’t post the photo!! You’re welcome to try and PM it to me instead if you like as I’d be happy to have a look for you. So tricky to know given that you didn’t get to look at it until 40 mins later (so typical isn’t it 😅). I don’t think I’ve ever done a test and it be negative and then come back to it to have a look, but as you say, your other ones in your notebook don’t have any lines! Is it a cheapy strip test? If you have more I’d be tempted to do another if you get the chance today and see if there’s another faint line, even though it won’t be FMU?

How is everyone else getting on? I’m 7DPO and I’m getting very ‘not pregnant’ vibes. No real reason other than I checked cervix position today and it’s low and hard, but then maybe your cervix wouldn’t rise up higher this early anyway even if you were going to get a BFP. Also my boobs are agony (they always are by this point in my cycle), so I’m thinking as that’s usual for me it probably means not much is happening in there 😅

OP posts:
GoldieMam · 22/06/2024 15:15

@DaisyEM sore boobs is deffo a good sign. It’s still so early for you so I’m keeping everything crossed.

11dpo and a tentative BFP today! More a big faint positive than big fat positive but feeling cautiously optimistic. Still feeling nauseous on and off and boobs are sore. Also been burping A LOT 😂not sure if that’s related!

DaisyEM · 22/06/2024 15:33

@GoldieMam ahh great news! Will you continue to test? The temptation to test over here is strong 😅 but I know it’s waaaay too early so I’ve not given in yet! Like I said anyway, I’m not particularly hopeful this is our month. It’s only cycle one for us anyway!

OP posts:
GoldieMam · 22/06/2024 15:37

@DaisyEM you never know. Oh yeah, 100%! I just used a digital and got negative so that’s already not a great sign for me

theotherfossilsister · 22/06/2024 15:40

Hello, tentatively joining. Ds is 23 months and I ended up in psychiatric hospital after he was born so I'm very scared and keep changing my mind but also I'm almost forty so feel like it's now or never. It took us three years to conceive ds too and went through IVF although they never found the reason for infertility. Might be a bit jump on/jump off with this thread if that's ok because I tend to get obsessive about stuff.

@GoldieMam I just read the thread and that's so good, really hope this one sticks. Love your username. My dad had a friend he called Goldie, although it was her surname.

DaisyEM · 22/06/2024 15:51

@GoldieMam on no, is the photo of the test above the type you’ve used in the past? If I’m honest I have heard that they are bad for evap lines, but you never know, perhaps they are more sensitive than the digital. Did you take the first one with FMU?

OP posts:
GoldieMam · 22/06/2024 15:52

@theotherfossilsister of course, welcome. And please come and go as you wish. That sounds so tough! My DS is 23 months too, we also keep having wobbles after tough days/tough nights so you’re absolutely not alone on that front. Fingers crossed for you 🤞🏼. The username is in honour of my original baby, the dog! She’s a golden retriever 💛

@theotherfossilsister hi ☺️ thanks for joining. Of course, feel free to dip in and out! So sorry to hear about your experience with your first. I’ve felt similar to you as I had pregnancy complications pretty much the whole way through, a traumatic labour and a 9 day hospital stay once DS was born plus ongoing medical tests with him for the first 5 months. Going through any of that again is so daunting and it’s taken me until he’s nearly 3 to start to feel ready again. It’s not an easy decision to make! Have you actively started trying yet or still trying to decide? I totally get it with getting obsessive with these things, I went absolutely all in when we were TTC #1 and the longer it took the more obsessed I got!
