We moved our motor home out into the street earlier so we (DH, DD and I) could clean it.

A woman walked past with a child who made a comment, something innocuous about it being quite big.

The woman said ‘your lucky you never have to go in one of them and we can go abroad’.

I thought - you cheeky cow. We have had some great trips away over the years, and go abroad at times too. I wish I said something to her now!

If have laughed at that, what a wally.

I know some very wealthy people who have caravans - I thought they were really expensive! My FIL used to take his all over Europe!

Maybe she's just not a fan of motorhomes? I wouldn't take it personally but yes it is rude to say it in earshot.

OP, my DB has one, and guess what? He and his DW go abroad in it. Just ignore sad, ignorant passer-by - she’s probably jealous.

What an embarrassing thing for her to say. People who own motor homes cannot go abroad! News to me..

It’s also kind of a shitty attitude to have and even worse to say it to the child who will end up the same. I would never say that to our child because I’m not raising a future arsehole.

Oh and I would have responded by turning to my DD and saying "you are so lucky that we can afford a motor home AND holidays abroad"

God, I wish I said something now. DH suggested ‘you could do with a walking holiday in the English countryside rather than gobbling a TUI all inclusive buffet!’ - she is slightly robust in size.

We have a motor home and have had some great holidays. We lived full time in it for 7 months while waiting for a house sale to complete. I was amazed at some comments I received from friends such as how do you feel about being homeless and really looking down on us because our home wasn’t a brick one at the time! I think people are possibly jealous of your lifestyle.
