To find this a really snobby comment from neighbour?

We moved our motor home out into the street earlier so we (DH, DD and I) could clean it.

A woman walked past with a child who made a comment, something innocuous about it being quite big.

The woman said ‘your lucky you never have to go in one of them and we can go abroad’.

I thought - you cheeky cow. We have had some great trips away over the years, and go abroad at times too. I wish I said something to her now!

She probably goes to a cockroach infested cheap hotel and eats sausage and chips for every meal.

So presumably you're presuming that I wouldn't be outraged?
You are quite unique aren't you?
Your presumptuous attitude may take you far in life. Or possibly drive you insane...maybe you already are insane and believe you can read people's minds and predict how they may react in a situation without knowing them?!
On this occasion your presumption is correct, it really wouldn't bother me if I heard a comment like that. That is one persons opinion. Why should I let another persons opinion outrage me. Life is way too short to take notice.
Now, you keep being you, continue to be outraged by others opinions and I sincerely hope your presumptuous attitude serves you well. 😚

I presumed you woudn't be outriaged because you were clearly happy with your own choices... you confirmed that you wouldn't! But felt the need to give me a snippy sarcy response. Strange. I'm not "quite unique" and neither are you. Every single person on this planet is unique.

Dh has been watching a couple on YouTube who have a motorhome and they look to have a brilliant time. They go all over the UK and have had some trips abroad. It wouldn't do for me as I couldn't get up into the bed but it's great watching them and seeing all the places they can just stop and look at whatever they want.

Is that James and Helen (By the curb)?

I watched a fair bit of their videos, I like Helen, but James annoyed me a bit. I got fed up of him looking for pubs all the time, and the constant references to “In England”

England’s not the only place in the UK!

I have loved some of their videos though.

I watch Ash and Kels now, a Welsh couple, no motorhome, but go all over the world, Kelsey is really sweet.

thereisnomeaning · 10/08/2026 23:26

I honestly wouldn't worry about it. It's like, I hate camping. If I saw a pup tent up I might think 'hell no'. It doesn't mean I am looking down at you for camping or being snobby. It just means I'm soft.

Theworldsgonemadagain · 10/08/2026 23:28

I grew up on caravan holidays and we still have caravan holidays with our kids. It's less hassle than going abroad and we can take the dog. I'm no snob but nowadays I would much rather an all inclusive holiday in the sun. Driving and cooking isn't much of a holiday. Kids love it though, a pool and some naff entertainment is fab for kids, my whole childhood was memories of this and I never knew what it was to go abroad so she is wrong to project to a child. Plus it's bloody expensive for a motorhome so I'd assume you were rich for having one!

HatKat · 10/08/2026 23:30

Ha ha what a dick. Should've laughed in her face! We have a touring caravan and my nearly 4 year old LOVES it more than being abroad. She doesnt remember anything from holiday on the plane, but could tell you anything and everything about her caravan holidays in the UK! 🥰

God, I wish I said something now. DH suggested ‘you could do with a walking holiday in the English countryside rather than gobbling a TUI all inclusive buffet!’ - she is slightly robust in size.

That’s a horrible thing to say about anyone. Yes she was wrong to make the comment she did but there’s really no need for your DH to make that comment no matter how annoyed he was. They maybe go to villas or hiking holidays abroad for all he knows, you can walk many places not just the English countryside or perhaps he’s not that well travelled? Your DH sounds like an arse tbh saying that. Personally I’d have rolled my eyes at her comment about going abroad, your DH is as small minded as the woman was.

Izzy24 · 10/08/2026 23:38
  1. I’d love a motorhome
  2. It’s ‘one of those’ not ‘one of them’ (just saying…)
NoLifeguardOnDuty · 10/08/2026 23:45

What a knobhead. Warning her son off the perils of owning a motor home as if was smoking 😂

No it's Lesley and Martin i think it's Yorkies travel. They've actually sold their house to their dd and now live in the motorhome. There's quite a few videos of Scotland. She's a bit obsessive about looking around shower blocks and laundrettes but they seem a really nice couple.

U53rName · 10/08/2026 23:59

I would have laughed at her grammar.

Yousay55 · 11/08/2026 00:02

I’m not sure about it being ‘snobby’ but it is completely ignorant. I’d love a motor home!

Some people love to think themselves superior, ignore it

Perhaps she has no idea how expensive they are or thinks they look unsightly? Neighbours opposite have one and theirs is huge and takes over most of their drive. Anyway she should have kept her thoughts to herself and it was a rude comment.

When are you back at school, have you got your uniform ready?

PixieTales · 11/08/2026 00:10

Yes it was rude but each to their own when it comes to holidays.

Personally I would hate being stuck on a cruise ship seeing the same people, spreading germs and food poisoning about yet some people see that as a luxury…

Crochetandtea · 11/08/2026 00:12

Her message wasn’t very nice but your husband’s was just nasty and really unkind. Why do people always resort to insulting a woman’s weight or size ? Let’s hope you never put on weight in menopause. At least you’ll know what he really thinks of you.

Bones101 · 11/08/2026 00:12

Im a physician and so are my parents. We have money. Weve been all over the world.

It's jealousy!!

It's really rude, I don't think you can say it's jealousy. I have absolutely no desire to holiday in a motor home, and would not feel in the slightest bit jealous of someone who did. I also wouldn't judge them for taking the holidays they like!

DressOrSkirt · 11/08/2026 00:26

I don't think it's snobby. Just her preference, which she wasn't even saying to you.
You've let this get into head, discussed it with your DH, come up with actually snobby (and body shaming) comments you wish you'd said to her, and made a post on MN.
YABU.

Just smile - she will never know the fun of one. Our kids loved ours. Plus, your carbon footprint is way better.
