To find this a really snobby comment from neighbour?

We moved our motor home out into the street earlier so we (DH, DD and I) could clean it.

A woman walked past with a child who made a comment, something innocuous about it being quite big.

The woman said ‘your lucky you never have to go in one of them and we can go abroad’.

I thought - you cheeky cow. We have had some great trips away over the years, and go abroad at times too. I wish I said something to her now!

I’d absolutely adore a motor home and it’s at the very top of my list of things I’d buy if I came into a large sum of money!

SunsetDrifter · 11/08/2026 03:15

But motorhomes are so £££ and a lot of people take them abroad! We are into camping (currently abroad camping) and I like to google how much the motorhomes are worth on neighbouring pitches, 100k is not unusual, you only ever see retired older couples in the huge luxury things, people our age simply can't afford them! My 5 year old keeps telling us he wants one, he sees it as pure luxury and pretty cool! Leave your neighbours to their cheap all you can eat package deal to Turkey, they'll never know what they are missing!

HelpMeGetThrough · 11/08/2026 06:04

For a decent motor home (like the bungalow our neighbour has parked in his driveway, grrr!!!), I’d imagine you could have a fair number of holidays abroad.

JuliettaCaeser · 11/08/2026 06:56

They are not for everyone surely you can see that? Holidays are very subjective. I would hate to be crammed in a motorhome to sleep doing lots of driving and then being on campsites with lots of other people. To me that’s not a holiday it’s a nightmare!

This thread isn’t about liking or not liking motor homes, it’s about being fucking rude.

JuliettaCaeser · 11/08/2026 07:14

Why would you care so much about the opinion of a virtual stranger though?

ViciousCurrentBun · 11/08/2026 07:52

We bought a motorhome last year and had 2 months away in it, just about to go to Ireland for a month and then Spain for 3 months January onwards. @SunsetDrifter we bought ours secondhand but only 5k on the clock, brand new it would be 140k. Only ever seen a couple of those giant American ones on sites that have side extending walls that come out when parked, they cost 250k upwards.

Many motorhome owners are retired, we retired early. We stay on smaller sites almost always, quite a few farms

I had to dodge a load of baby goats on one farm to get to the loo, watched a farmer bring in his huge flock for dipping, we were in the next field of his, been on beachside sites and run over for an early morning swim. Absolutely love it.

No it's Lesley and Martin i think it's Yorkies travel. They've actually sold their house to their dd and now live in the motorhome. There's quite a few videos of Scotland. She's a bit obsessive about looking around shower blocks and laundrettes but they seem a really nice couple.

Thankyou!

I’ll have a look for them, sounds really good 😊

Itiswhysofew · 11/08/2026 10:44

Snotty cow!

I know a couple who are absolutely loaded. They travel in their motor home every year, with their dogs, between their huge home in Spain to their equally huge home in France.

My neighbours have one and are always going off for days away.

Wish I had one.

Whatthefork1 · 11/08/2026 17:04

What a delightful role model she is for her child.

Thehop · 10/08/2026 21:21

She doesn't have a clue. We got abroad every year but would love to be able to afford a motor home 😂

Us too!

BuildbyNumbere · 11/08/2026 17:36

Why are you so worried about what someone else thinks?

Exactly.

Booboobagins · 11/08/2026 17:47

Well that's going to stop soon isn't it? Climate change is going to make such a change in our lives and we are all sleep walking into it.

I wish I had a campervan/motorhome...

tommyhoundmum · 11/08/2026 17:49

concertinacornflake · 10/08/2026 20:58

If have laughed at that, what a wally.

Exactly.

RaininSummer · 11/08/2026 17:50

She's a weirdo. I expect she goes to Benidorm, eats chips and does karaoke every year.

Jorge14 · 11/08/2026 17:50

Bloody cheek, but personally I’d find her ignorance hilarious - let it go.

Holidays are so so so divisive. I wouldn’t want go on any of the holidays my friends have and they probably wouldn’t want mine. But I wouldn’t say that out loud and it’s a crap mindset for her child.

MyballsareSandy2015 · 11/08/2026 17:55

My DDs are adults now but their best holiday memories are those in our campervan … not Turkey or New York or any of the other trips we did when they were small.

Wherethedogsits · 11/08/2026 17:56

I don’t think it’s snobby to not like a motorhome.
Your comment about TUI all you can eat buffet was though.

Northernladdette · 11/08/2026 17:57

I don’t find it snobby at all, just rude. Some people are just anti caravan/motorhome.
They don’t know what they’re missing 😊

Realworld10 · 11/08/2026 17:57

Preposterous comment to make! Our dream is to have a motorbike, especially a big one!

Have been (and lived) abroad on exotic holidays, also caravan, camping, clamping, teenage euro rail. The best ones have actually been caravans, love them ❤️

Lilacblu · 11/08/2026 18:01

Maybe she wanted to Diss it so her daughter didn't get any ideas about getting one, everyone to there own, perhaps she likes hotels, being left to do no bed making, cleaning bathroom and sees mobile homes as things to have to do and that's not a holiday in her mind, but I'd love the freedom of a mobile home, brilliant! Hope you have a great time all. ☺️

Eastie77Returns · 11/08/2026 18:02

I would never stay in a caravan on holiday. I don’t really like the idea of motorhomes. A good friend of mines lives in a boat on a canal and that’s not my cup of tea either. I was called ‘horrible’ on a thread years ago when I said I’d rather not go on holiday at all than go to Butlins or Haven.

None of this makes me a snob, it’s just my personal preference. I’m sure many people would hate my idea of a perfect holiday. The woman was very rude though.

I didn’t realise you had to hand in your passport upon getting a motorhome?!

The comment was just ignorance at its finest. I don’t think I could bring myself to get riled up about it.

I would absolutely take wombling round in a motorhome over a lot of holidays abroad. Have a wonderful holiday OP!
