Why are so many men perverts?

I just got sexually harassed by a tarot card reader. The most bizarre place to be sexually harassed! It was at one of those walk in places near a beach

He was looking at the cards, talking about my relationships and he said "it looks like you are single ". I said ""yeah i am i want to be single i don't want a relationship reallly'
He said "oh yeah you can just go out for a few shags that's just as good".
I was taken aback. He said again "you can go out and have a good shag'
I said "no i dont do that".

He then said "did someone just die. " i said "yes my dad'
He said 'i bet you were a naughty girl for your dad. You naughty naughty girl'.

I said "im leaving". What the fuck!

Last week i was at a poetry group. We all wrote and read out a poem. The women all wrote about families , love , beach walks etc.
The man wrote "a funny poem (his words)" about his testicles and sex. No one found it funny.

In my last workplace two of my male colleagues were "joking" about masturbating. I felt a bit sick

Women can be just as bad. You're just sexist

Are you a man?

No woman has said anyrhing sexual in any hobby that ive been to, or any workplace ive been in

The men have said sexual things

I do think as a society both sexes have normalised a highly sexual way of being; introduction of the internet led to frequent, hardcore porn use and I think the lines are very blurred now. Yes, I think most men are either secretly or overtly a bit pervy.

MysweetAudrina · 23/05/2025 18:56

I would definitely find a poem about testicles funny and would be more likely to come up with a dirty ditty than something soppy. I’m a woman but I’m a bit pervy myself so that might account for it.

SleepyRooster · 23/05/2025 18:58

lol yeah women constantly perve, making other people uncomfortable. Can’t stop em

Gogreengoblin · 23/05/2025 19:03

That's such a horrible experience you just described! I'm sorry that happened.

VoltaireMittyDream · 23/05/2025 19:14

I’m fortunate to have had fewer experiences with pervy men than the majority on MN, but I’ve never in my life been flashed or felt up by a random woman on public transport, catcalled by female builders, kerb-crawled by women in white vans. Never had a woman make awful innuendos at inappropriate monents or take liberties while giving me a massage treatment or stand up in an evening class and recite poems about her labia and masturbatory habits.

I dunno, maybe that makes me sexist, @YellowOrangePink

ExceedinglyCharacteristic · 23/05/2025 19:18

Hang on, are you saying your tarot card reader accused you of having had an incestuous relationship with your father? Whom you’d just told him had died?

MissAndrey · 23/05/2025 19:23

I don't know. Partly testosterone, partly socialisation I guess. I avoid them as much as possible now. Cba with it all.

Greenartywitch · 23/05/2025 19:27

''@OrangePink · Today 18:36 Women can be just as bad. You're just sexist''.

Nonsense.

-Stats show clearly that the majority of rapes/sexual assaults are committed by men
-Research shows that men are more likely than women to consume pornography
-Men are generally more likely to have fetishes than women.

Facts are not sexist...

Ivesaidenough · 23/05/2025 19:28

I have a friend who is lovely but her DH talks about sex all the time, it's so inappropriate. She doesn't seem to mind though. 😨

Yes that all happened. Right after i told him he died.

I know it's disgusting. Some men are such creeps

That’s the first thing you thought when reading the OP’s post?

Don't be so fucking ridiculous. Yes, very very few women can be as bad as the many, many, many men. Can you see how this doesn't make the OP sexist?

Mymanyellow · 23/05/2025 19:42

Is there anyone you can report him to? Not sure who tbh. Perhaps he has to have some sort of permit from the council to set up and talk shite.

NaeRolls · 23/05/2025 19:52

I'm sorry that horrible tarot card reader sexually harassed you, how awful!

I think most men are more sexually driven because of testosterone, but whether they behave and speak disrespectfully or crassly depends on their personalities and backgrounds.

I avoid men like this and seek out men who are respectful towards women and who have enough self-respect not to behave in these ways. Like all human beings they have sexual drives, but they have the manners and intelligence to keep things civilised.

Got some examples?

There was a woman on here the other day who started a thread in surprise about the fact that her new boyfriend was a bit uneasy when she just came straight out randomly telling him about how much she masturbated whilst she was supposed to be working from home.

She's probably an anomaly, though!

Poetry group bloke writing 'hilarious' doggerel about his goolies sounds desperately grim.

Yeah, that's not how it went, the OP made a joke that WFH meant wanking from home...and it was her partner she was talking to. Not even comparable

You think maaturbating makes someone a pervert?

I can't remember how long she'd been with him - I recalled it wasn't long, but I may have that wrong.

Nevertheless, it still sounded like they weren't at a stage/on the same page in their relationship where they would laugh about that kind of thing together.

Poetry man would probably have insisted that he was 'just joking' too, though - especially if it didn't go down well.

Male or female, you really do need to be sure of your audience before launching into 'intimate' topics of conversation, and know that it will be appreciated and not make the other person/people uncomfortable.

No, I think just randomly talking about it to somebody who you aren't certain will appreciate it is highly inappropriate, though.

I'm not saying that she was anything like as bad as tarot guy - he sounds utterly dreadful and should be reported; but she could have done with a filter too.

Primary school playground
Male teacher
Mums comments about his body, and specifically his butt and things that he could be good at.

I am sure I can remember a lot of other examples!
