Why are so many men perverts?

I just got sexually harassed by a tarot card reader. The most bizarre place to be sexually harassed! It was at one of those walk in places near a beach

He was looking at the cards, talking about my relationships and he said "it looks like you are single ". I said ""yeah i am i want to be single i don't want a relationship reallly'
He said "oh yeah you can just go out for a few shags that's just as good".
I was taken aback. He said again "you can go out and have a good shag'
I said "no i dont do that".

He then said "did someone just die. " i said "yes my dad'
He said 'i bet you were a naughty girl for your dad. You naughty naughty girl'.

I said "im leaving". What the fuck!

Last week i was at a poetry group. We all wrote and read out a poem. The women all wrote about families , love , beach walks etc.
The man wrote "a funny poem (his words)" about his testicles and sex. No one found it funny.

In my last workplace two of my male colleagues were "joking" about masturbating. I felt a bit sick

Saying women can be just as bad (they really aren’t ) doesn’t make men doing it okay.

The generalising is you stereotyping women as ‘screeching’.

Next you’ll tell us we’re being hysterical.

I am most definitively female, and I do think that many posters on this forum ARE hysterical.

And yes, I know the history behind the word.

I suspect same posters are very shy, quiet and totally lacking confidence in real life..

Again, I am not denying any of this, but what I find puzzling because it's a common occurence on MN, is that these incidents seem to happen to some women A LOT, and to others never.

I don't get pervy comments when I run, at most I get a good morning/ evening and the only ones who don't move away are women. 99% run out ot the side to let me carry on the path where I am.
I have never heard a creepy comment when shopping.

It's only examples to reply to your post, but I am never dealing with pervy men. I am not complaining, it's just odd the difference.

I've never had a pervy comment when running either. However, I didn't do it when I was young and I now live in an area where street harassment isn't common. I can definitely see why it varies.

Gwenhwyfar · 24/05/2025 11:37

There was a comedy sketch where two old women harassed any man who visited e.g. the plumber. They'd start with 'oh young man' and end up attacking him. The reason why it was funny was because it doesn't happen in real life.

Yeah, especially the ones who come on here and accuse women of being 'shrieky' and 'hysterical.' (Lovely bit of negging and misoginism there by the way!) You just KNOW that the posters spouting these types of comments are quiet and timid, and wouldn't say these things in real life...

Women don't generally do this when they're married though. Men do. (Most of them.) When a hetero couple partners up/gets married, the woman generally settles and doesn't want to go chasing after other men. Men aren't like this. They still have a wandering eye, they still flirt with other women, (and make lewd remarks...) And the women still have other men letching at them, making lewd remarks, groping them, and insinuating an affair... even when the women themselves are married.

I had this shit happen to me from my mid teens to my mid 40s. (Even when I was married!) Men hitting on me all the time, and most of them mid 30s or older, and ALL married/in long term relationships, and they often had children too. Some of these men knew I was married; they were neighbours, work colleagues, and even so-called friends of my husband.

I have NEVER gone out hitting on other men, shagging other men, flirting with other men at work, and trying to get a shag out of anyone. Nor have I ever 'discused my labia' or rattled on about how hot this man and that man is, and how they'I'm so horny I could shag anything. And no woman I know/socialise with does this either. I don't know what kind of women @blubbyblub knows, but I'm very glad they're not in MY social circle. They sound fucking grim.

@Larna4t OP, you're right, many men are abolute perverts, and it doesn't stop when they get older either. I'm in my late 50s now, and get men in their 70s hitting on me, making suggestive remarks, and thinking their luck is in. Doesn't happen as much as it used to when I was younger, but it still happens. I had one man (around 70) desperately trying to push a bunch of flowers on me in the high street some months back, saying 'your smile makes my day my love.' Legit following me around for about 10 minutes (around 15 years older he was.) I managed to lose him in a shop. A couple of days later I saw him the the market with his WIFE. Absolute scumbag.

Anyone saying 'oh but women are just the same - or worse- is 100% gaslighting ... No WAY are women like men, just because you get tshe odd hen party marauding through Blackpool. Incredibly nonsensical and ridiculous comment. As has been said, it can only be a man saying this. No way would any women thik like this.

Edited

Agree with everything you say but wasn’t talking about married women. Just saying many women do go out on the pull.

Yes most married men are on the lookout, when I became single most of the come ons I got were from married men rather than single ones. Friends husbands messaging, even though they knew I am close to their wife. Men on nights out not even bothering to take their rings off while asking for my number.
Many married women do cheat but not to the extent and not in the same way as men.
They are far, far worse than us

Yes I would have fit this description aged 13 in my school uniform when a man hung out of his van window and shouted that he wanted me to suck his dick. Or when I was sat on the bus on the way home from school and looked up to see a man stood staring at me with his knob in his hand. Victim blaming much?

If you think women are "just as bad as men" then you have a very naive understanding of men.

indeed keyboard warriors comes to mind

If people were acting or reacting the way they pretend they do on this forum, there would be physical fights are every corner 😂

The language and absolute horror and disgust at anything remotely masculine is another one.

No need to pretend you haven't seen these posts.

It's no coincidence that in this country we have whole male prisons that house only male sex offenders. In total that's thousands of men jailed for these offences.

There are no female prisons just for sex offenders, then again I read that of all prisoners, females only make up 3%.

Need I add that we are running out of room to house those male prisoners, to the extent that our excuse for a government is about to start releasing violent men? Such a small percentage get convicted in the first place that this surely represents a collapse of law in Britain.

Exactly this. The lack of understanding, and utterly ludicrous comments that certain posters are putting on there is phenomenal. I don't know a single woman who thinks like this in real life, and find the dismissing of many womens horrible experiences (with pervy and lecherous men) disgusting, and yes, 'victim blaming.' Best not to engage I think.

proving my point. You can't even accept that a WOMAN disagrees with you, or has a different opinion.

Funny how it's women trying to shut us when accusing the men of doing just that.

My 13yo got groped for the first time the other day. I didn’t even see it - we weee standing outside a takeaway waiting for our order and a scuzzy guy walked past us, and ran his hand over her bum. She told me after he drove away. I was fizzing with rage and then we had a depressing discussion about whether you should shout and make a scene or if that will make you a victim. I guarantee no 13yo boy will be having that conversation about predatory older women.

I'm so sorry this happened to your daughter. I hope she is OK. Flowers

But sadly I am not shocked. Every woman I know has experienced this shit from early puberty. (11-12 y.o.) It was around this age that it started with me. And also with my own DD. Men letching, groping, sneering, calling out 'frigid bitch' or 'slag!' if you told them to get lost, chucking out lewd comments, and even suggesting a mother and daughter threesome when my DD was 12-13 and I was in my early 40s. Just utterly vile. Never said anything when her dad (my DH) was with us though. Funny that. 🤔

HRTQueen · 24/05/2025 12:49

There will always been sown on here who will going out of there way to prove woman are just as bad

but it’s just not true

there are so many men who really have little or no respect for women we are just seen as sexual objects and when no longer sexually attractive to them we become jokes or someone to be mean towards

I was fooled when younger thinking lots of men were really nice, so many men were kind to me and wanted to be friends (especially older men) I ignored the sexual remarks as they were just trying to be funny 🙄 few men want to be friends now I am heading into my middle 50’s

Lindajonesjustcantlivemylife · 24/05/2025 12:57

@FigTreeInEurope I agree with you,I worked with one guy who spoke filth to female staff and he wouldn't have dared do it to his own wife.
He got away with it because he was managers pet.
I hauled him up heap's of time's for the racist, homophobic, sexist dinosaur mouth.

SomethingFun · 24/05/2025 13:30

Your poor daughter @tygertygers I am sorry that happened to her.

Women are individual human beings and not some homogenous mass. If some women go out on the pull or some women behave shittily on a hen do this doesn’t now mean that all female boundaries around consent are now null and void. No one has a problem understanding that men and boys don’t want to be touched sexually by men without enthusiastic consent but for women and girls it’s always a grey area and complicated apparently and it’s up to us individually and collectively to do something to protect ourselves otherwise it’s our fault.
