Mother’s Day disappointment aibu

genderguessesplz · 30/03/2025 12:14

i have a daughter age 2, and am 14 weeks pregnant with baby 2.

All week I’ve seen a gift bag in the dining room that says happy Mother’s Day on it, I was really looking forward to seeing what daddy and my toddler might have picked for me.

i opened a mug that says mum, I am known as mummy as my daughter is only tiny. My husband told me his sister had bought it had got it to him, so he didn’t even choose it

I feel sad that my husband didn’t do it and I’ve put the mug in a charity bag as I don’t want a Mother’s Day gift from my sister in law. Only my child or husband

am I being unreasonable here.

YES YABU. What did you think was in the gift bag?
I would’ve congratulated your DD on her lovely choice.
Why does everyone make such a fuss nowadays?
Ridiculous

ZookeeperSE · 30/03/2025 15:23

I need to stop opening these threads.

CaptainBeanThief · 30/03/2025 15:24

Ungrateful much?
Anyway, you can never have too many mugs....

ShhhhhItsASurprise · 30/03/2025 15:24

What happened last year?

Hobnobswantshernameback · 30/03/2025 15:24

god this place is just tedious with all these ridiculous threads

PrettayGood · 30/03/2025 15:24

FFS. Have you really put it in a charity bag? What a delightful example to set for your daughter.

1PercentClub · 30/03/2025 15:25

YANBU to feel the way you do OP. Your DH is thoughtless!

ColinOfficeTrolley · 30/03/2025 15:25

Very childish to put the mug in a charity bag. Very childish indeed.

Nosaucelikemintsauce · 30/03/2025 15:25

I got a mug. In a gift bag with a few other things. Yanbu. Sil isn't anything to do with your MD...
Is he usually so useless?
Get him a mug for FD. And nowt else...

SpinningTops · 30/03/2025 15:26

I never really understand this. Your child is too young to understand so whatever happened it would be from your husband.

We’ve never bought into the commercial hype of Mother’s Day. My kids (aged 8&6) have made me a card (their choice) and told me they love me. In my opinion that’s perfect and all I would want.

Screamingabdabz · 30/03/2025 15:28

Of all the things to buy, what a basic and shit thing to buy a mother of a baby. That aside, you have a DH problem. Why women wait until baby 2 is on the way to open their eyes to this crap will never cease to astound me. 🙄

Well it was clear from the title what this was about. Maybe don’t open the next one 🥱

Specifically what should she be grateful for? And to whom? Her husband didn't buy it. It literally means nothing. She's not given birth to her sister in law a d she's not given birth to her SIL's children, so it doesn't mean anything

It's why it's bonkers for women to buy their MILS mother's day's presents from their partner. It is meaningless.

CaptainBeanThief · 30/03/2025 15:30

@MoothersDay
Well going by your user name and you've quoted me I'm going to guess youve also got a mug for mother day 🤔

I don't think any of my children would have known the contents of the mug cabinet at the age of the two.

Itiswhysofew · 30/03/2025 15:32

Such a shame that he's been so thoughtless.

Did you get a card?

mnbvcxzas · 30/03/2025 15:34

I am known as mum but mug read “I love you mam”. We just laughed at it.

Concernedchilli · 30/03/2025 15:34

Everyone saying yabu aren't taking into account that it's all relevant. If dad doesn't even bother to get a simple mug himself and mum goes all out for father's day it's an absolute liberty and I'd be p**sed. If you make no effort for him either then yabu.

MoothersDay · 30/03/2025 15:37

Flowers actually, we're sorted for mugs. A mug would be fine if it's from the child or the other parent, but it wasn't. That's the issue, isn't it.

I just don't understand why people have such low expectations for men. They get a child perfectly formed and grown by another human at the expense of their own body for nearly a year (more, if she breast feeds). And so many of them can't even organize a present once a year.

Completely ignored father's day op. These holidays clearly don't matter to him

itsgettingweird · 30/03/2025 15:38

And this is exactly why these advertisement and marketing days exist.

to guilt trip mass spending on tat - that’s turns out most people don’t even want!

I take flowers to the crematorium for my mum.

My ds took me out for a Costa.

I don’t need masses of gifts and gratitude in gifts. I just need the daily thanks I get for the daily mum tasks I do.

CreationNat1on · 30/03/2025 15:38

In both of your scenarios you did more than her husband did. What point were you trying to make?

2025willbemytime · 30/03/2025 15:41

I think about what my children have done for me today, and sent and I think no, YANBU at all.

DS1 25, surprised me by coming home and has cooked lunch from scratch. And cleaned the oven first.
DD 21, video call from uni.
DS2 19, flowers, a card and a video call from uni.

SwordOfOmens · 30/03/2025 15:43

No you are not being unreasonable! Why do mothers think women aren't entitled to mothers day?

Men need to step up, women demand better.
