DH won’t let me use his account

PBJlover · 13/10/2024 11:19

DH pays for a Spotify subscription. I’d like to be able to use it to listen to music while getting ready in the morning (a time when he doesn’t use it). Also I could use my phone to play music for us in the car, instead of him trying to DJ by fiddling with his phone while driving. He wants us to buy a second subscription for me instead of letting me login with his. Mostly because he doesn’t want me to “mess up” his Spotify “Wrapped,” which gives you a report of what you listened to at the end of each year. I am sick of us paying for so many digital subscriptions. Yes, it’s only a few dollars a month, but such subscriptions add up! A streaming service here, a storage app there… etc etc. Am I being unreasonable to wish to use his account?

Sorry OP but I would find someone else using my account and messing up my listening history really annoying! It's much easier to have separate accounts.

TheFlis · 13/10/2024 11:22

You can get a duo account that is cheaper than 2 separate ones but you have your own log in so it doesn’t mess up the algorithms.

ThisHangryPinkBalonz · 13/10/2024 11:22

Why not buy the family one?

Dogpawssmellgreat · 13/10/2024 11:23

Yabvu!! Get a duo account and your own log in.

I'm with your DH.

vincettenoir · 13/10/2024 11:23

I am with you. Who cares about his Spotify wrapped?

Iacj · 13/10/2024 11:23

I don’t like dh use mine, I love my unwrapped and lastfm stats and when I use dj etc I want it based off my listening history. If you don’t want to pay for another or a family subscription use the free version?

Changeyourfuckingcar · 13/10/2024 11:24

Yabu. I like the music my husband listens to (generally speaking) but would find it so annoying if my mixes/recommendations etc were skewed by his tastes instead of my own.

constantlylactating · 13/10/2024 11:25

I pay for a family account, that way I gave a login, as does my husband, and one for the kids

Duo accounts still cost extra money every month.

I also agree with him, I wouldn’t want DH’s music skewing mine as I often put on the “recommended for you” ones when I’m cleaning/cooking.

Yes do this! We each have our own log in to the premium service

It's the price you pay for having your own created playlists and recommended music. It's worth it.

Music these days is criminally cheap.

I don’t understand why the wrapped report is so important.

I have a family account for this very reason.

The recommendations are tailored to what you listen to, and if you decided to listen to music in the morning when he has it in in his car, it will cut off, which is really annoying.

Yabu.

widelegenes · 13/10/2024 11:27

Yes, get a family account. I used DS15's account (new car, phone linking issues) a while ago. He was THRILLED to be recommended Barbra Streisand's greatest hits!

Iacj · 13/10/2024 11:27

Why not use a free account ?

You dont have to understand, just accept it's important to him

He doesn’t use those features on Spotify. He only listens to music he specifically chooses, not what an algorithm spits out for him.

We share a mortgage, pets and soon to be a child but I’d never expect him to share his Spotify!

We have a family account as suggested so have our own logins.

IKnowAristotle · 13/10/2024 11:29

Yeah, I'm with him. We use YouTube rather than Spotify but £15-20 for unlimited music and no ads is pretty good value to my mind.

Free account has commercials.

Spotify also has an algorithm. So it suggests and makes playlists based on what you listen to . I wouldn't want to share an account with anyone else , not just based on the wrapped . Definitely get a duo sub or family sub .

Well yes, that's the way of the world - if you want something you pay for it.
It's a family expense though, surely.
It's an extra fiver a month. Pretty good value for what you get.

boulevardofbrokendreamss · 13/10/2024 11:30

So ti have to pay for it. I'm with your h on this one.

Would you spend an extra few quid a month on something important to you?
