How often do you wear make up?

My next door neighbour wears a full face of make up every single day without fail. I say this having just bumped into her in my pj's with no make up...

I usually put on a bit of tinted moisturiser with some powder to stop shine and a bit of blusher to stop me from looking deathly pale on work days. If I'm going to a special occasion I'll make more effort with proper foundation and eye make up done but that's not often.

PonyPatter44 · 01/09/2024 13:05

I very very rarely wear a full face. I wear lipstick every day because I look dead without it, and I like it. I wear a bit of eyeliner if I remember to put it on, and I wear concealer if I suddenly develop a massive spot. My skin isn't too bad though, so I'm lucky.

DelurkingAJ · 01/09/2024 13:05

Once or twice a year. But I also don’t wander around in my PJs…I’m not sure the two are related?

bluebellseeds · 01/09/2024 13:06

Whatever makes a person feel good. Personally it takes me about 5 minutes to do my makeup - bit of powder, blusher/highlighter in one, lipstick, mascara, bit of eyebrow pencil - done ✨ Many days I don’t wear any if I’m just mooching around the house.

StTola · 01/09/2024 13:06

Daily.

EmpressaurusDeiGatti · 01/09/2024 13:07

I got bored with it about 30 years ago while I was at university, so not since then.

DanceMumTaxi · 01/09/2024 13:07

Always some for work and a bit more if I’m doing something nice or a night out. Otherwise I don’t bother. I’ll regularly go to the supermarket, drop kids at clubs, pop to my mum’s etc with a bare face. I’m just in the house today doing jobs so definitely no makeup

mushypaperstraws · 01/09/2024 13:07

Everyday, but I only spend 5 mins on it. Just mascara, foundation and filling in eyebrows

justflewinfromthewindycity · 01/09/2024 13:07

So what if your neighbour wears a full face every day ?
I wouldn't even notice
I wear it daily too

Whale80ne · 01/09/2024 13:08

Never.

Fair enough to ideally ponder how different everyone is of course.

That doesn't change the fact this really is something that should be nobody else's business unless it's a child or young teen you have some kind of responsibility towards who doesn't feel able to leave the house without makeup.

OR unless an employer is demanding female employees (but not male) wear makeup. That really is regressive and hopefully illegal under sex discrimination laws...

Spacemoon · 01/09/2024 13:08

Full face - maybe 3 or 4 times a year.

Brows, bronzer/blusher, mascara - almost daily, unless I am not planning on leaving the house.

socks1107 · 01/09/2024 13:09

I wear some every day. Foundation, blush, eyeshadow and mascara.
I was cabin crew from 19-30 so drummed into me in my most impressionable years!

I was going out to the car.

Hardly ever.

How do you bump into your neighbour while wearing pyjamas?

MannishWater · 01/09/2024 13:09

Every day for work. At weekends only if I’m going ‘out’ out.

As above, I was going out to get something from the car.

Kohl eyeliner, cream eyeshadow and blusher (multi stick), mascara, lipgloss and eyebrow pencil. Takes under 3 minutes.

thejollytrolleydolly · 01/09/2024 13:11

If I'm going to work I wear foundation, brow pencil, eyeliner and mascara. If I'm not leaving my house I will wear none at all. I like to give my skin time to breathe so I'll have a no makeup day at least once a week 😊

LondonFox · 01/09/2024 13:12

Every day as I look and feel better.
Mascara, eyeliner and brow pencil.
If I go to work or out I'll add light foundation.

cardibach · 01/09/2024 13:12

Never.
I have never worn a lot, but did blush/eyes as a young person.
Gradually became less and less and required a more and more special occasion for me to feel I had to/wanted to.
The last time I wore any at all was for my niece’s wedding. She had her 10th anniversary at the start of the summer.
People should do whatever they want though.

mushpush · 01/09/2024 13:12

Every day, even if it's just mascara. I love it!

BlankRoad · 01/09/2024 13:12

Mascara and lipstick - every day

Anything more - maybe 3-5x year, even though that only takes 5 mins. I think my main sticking point is that I need to learn how to do eye make up again and find shades that really suit me, now that I am older. I would quite like to have a make up lesson.

Sethera · 01/09/2024 13:13
  • Usually wear it to the office - not loads, powder foundation, eyebrow mascara and lipstick.
  • Going 'out out' - 'the works'
  • If having an important Teams meeting working from home - same as for office
  • Sometimes when going shopping/on a day trip; minimal, just lipstick and brows or even just lipstick

My face is pretty much beyond repair with ageing having piled onto features that were hideous to begin with, but make-up makes me look a bit more 'put together' and is more flattering if I am photographed.

I was going out to the car.

It’s not a criticism, I just think that the fact that I never (more or less) wear make up doesn’t make me more likely to even venture onto the drive in my PJs. I think the reason I’ve made that clear is that (over many years) a lot of my acquaintances have seemed to equate not wearing make up with being ungroomed (whilst simultaneously on many occasions saying ‘but you are today’ and being shocked that no, I’m not, because they cannot imagine having smart clothing, clean brushed hair and no make up…which says more about them than me, I suspect).

RainintheDesert · 01/09/2024 13:14

None because I've never got the hang of it. Never found any that doesn't itch or turn me into a Panda. Also, I'm long sighted so I can't really focus on what I'm doing.

I keep my eyebrows neat and pluck my facial hair. Cleanse and moisturise with a cream for very sensitive skin.
