How often do you wear make up?

My next door neighbour wears a full face of make up every single day without fail. I say this having just bumped into her in my pj's with no make up...

I wear it daily. I do a full face it's a light layer. I like it to look natural but to hide any imperfections and give my face a bit of colour. It makes me feel more awake and ready for the day. I feel tired and look washed out without it.

2-3 times a week probably? I don't wear full face, no foundation, so those 2-3 days are generally a bit of mascara and blusher. If I'm feeling fancy Grin, I might extend to some eyeshadow and tinted lip balm

So you’re suggesting she’ s free with her favours, just because she likes makeup?

Not at all, I was just reacting to the poster who was commenting on the jogger's full face at 7.30 am.

Do women really look years younger with good makeup up? You can't hide wrinkles/loss of collagen/lines, sunken eyes etc and other signs of ageing with make up. You can look more conventionally attractive but that's different to looking younger.

You can define and brighten features, cover a ruddy complexion, add dewiness, use colours that lift and create all kinds of optical illusions that male the face look brighter, more defined, more awake and just generally younger. It's not about hiding wrinkles but adding in and drawing attention to youthful aspects of the face.

Most days, as it makes me feel good to be honest! Not always mascara that's when I really am going for it 🤣 but always spf, foundation, either cream blush or powders and highlighter. Always do my eyebrows as they shape your face.

I wear some makeup on most days. Some days it might just be mascara, brow pencil and a liquid cheek blush. Other days it might be a 'full face' of foundation, concealer, eyeshadow, eyeliner, mascara, brow pencil, blush and lipstick - I can do that in five minutes so I don't consider it a big effort.

I really like experimenting with makeup and creating different looks. Sometimes I keep it pretty soft and natural - the 'no-makeup makeup' look - but sometimes I do vintage looks etc and goth-influenced stuff. I bloody love makeup - I enjoy putting on and I really like the creativity involved. I don't care if other people like my makeup or not; it's not for them.

Similarly, I'm not remotely bothered whether anyone else chooses to wear makeup or not. I don't even give it a thought.

Almost every day to a greater or lesser extent: minimum - a bit of blusher and lipstick (very subtle - not jammy and shiny). Foundation, eye shadow, lippy and blusher for bigger occasions.

I can't wear mascara - and it bugs me. I've just never been able to make it work for me. It's something to do with the set of my eyes. I have a collection of mascaras all claiming to be 100% waterproof, but they all smudged on me!

Everyone should be comfortable with their own look and many of my friends never wear make-up. But you only get one life, and I want to look as good as I can when I'm out.

Having said this...a friend once did say to me 'You should wear make-up sometimes!' I told her I was wearing it! This is a testament to the subtlety with which I apply it...but also a rather worrying indictment of how effective it is! 😂

Another friend thinks it's pointless when you're older 'You can't varnish a turd'', is her take. But I would argue that actually turds need varnishing far more than peaches do!!

Skilfully applied makeup these days can go some way towards softening these things. Some foundations and primers have clever light-reflecting/blurring properties.

Mascara every day,as my lashes are short and not very dark. I like my eyes better with mascara. Sometimes, eyebrows get filled in a bit (with a £4 eyebrow gel).
That's it. No blusher, foundation, lipstick, eyeshadow etc... Quite happy with what my skin looks like as I take my skincare seriously.
I'm 46 and have a very busy stressful life. Sometimes, I don't get to brush my hair until I arrive at work.

aSpanielintheworks · 18/11/2024 21:28

I'm one of those people who unfortunately looks like death with no make up on so if my house caught fire in the middle of the night, I would be the one rifling through the drawers for a lippy.
Ok that's a fib but seriously I wear makeup every single day. It's as fundamental to me as getting dressed is. Without it, my confidence to talk to people completely vanishes.

But unless you are stood in front of a mirror all day you are doing it for other people you can't see yourself they can

Yeah, and?
