How often do you wear make up?

My next door neighbour wears a full face of make up every single day without fail. I say this having just bumped into her in my pj's with no make up...

At the moment I wear make up most days. Just a tinted base (cc or bb cream, not sure which!), a bit of blusher and eyeshadow along my lower lash line instead of eyeliner. Mascara used to be a daily thing but the one I have at the moment doesn’t stay on so I’ve given up because it looks worse all around my eyes than not at all.

In the summer I just wear tinted factor 50 and get a lash lift/eyelash tint.

I’ve had phases where I’ve worn none at all and phases where I’ve worn more. I’ve never learnt to do make up properly though and am in awe of people who can completely change their look with makeup.

IsItWickedNotToCare · 17/11/2024 07:54

Every day full face except if staying in all day how cleaning and on those days I wouldn't pop to the shop. I feel ugly and haggard without it.

DieStrassensindimmernass · 17/11/2024 07:55

Never.
I hate the feel of it
Each to their own.
I admire the skill some folk have in applying it though.

MullersCorner · 17/11/2024 08:03

For work (Mon-Fri) I usually fill in my eyebrows, brow gel, bit of concealer if I need it, curl my eyelashes, and bronzer. Takes about 2 minutes (would be quicker if I was blessed with full eyebrows!)

Weekends I don’t wear any unless I’m going out or out out (as we all know, going out and going out out are very different occasions).

Going out makeup is usually tinted moisturiser or foundation, concealer, brows, mascara, and bronzer. Takes about 10 minutes to do.

Going out out is primers, foundation, cream bronzer & blush, concealer, setting powder, powder bronzer & blush, highlighter, eyebrows, eyeshadow, false eyelashes, setting spray, lip liner, lipstick, and lip gloss.
This takes a while (about an hour and a half) because I like to take my time with it so I don’t get flustered and agitated😂 I also really enjoy playing around with any new products. Also takes longer because I’m usually distracted by my glass of wine & getting ready playlist…

Redlorryyellowcar · 17/11/2024 08:06

Full face - just evenings out a handful of times a year

basic make up - about half the time (mascara, concealer, blusher, tinted lips)

no make up - about half the time and I look like death. I look genuinely pale and ill and spotty skin!! But I have two small kids so half the time I just don’t care

LilyJessie · 17/11/2024 08:22

I used to wear almost every day, but now it's once a fortnight (if that) and only when I want too.
And I do not look beautiful without it on unfortunately 😂

I have to agree with the aging thing.
I don’t know if it’s true of everyone but I think I don’t have any lines under my eyes at all ( I’m 58 ) because I’m not pulling them about to put on and take off makeup which I’ve never worn. It’s just a guess but friends have commented too and it’s all we could think of apart from my high intake of veggies

Edited

I disagree with this. I've been wearing make up since my teens and this had to coincide with a skincare routine. Around 30 years ago I started using a very basic cleanser and moisturiser, twice a day in order to create a good base for my make up and remove it at the end of the day. I've continued into my forties, as well as the makeup and I regularly get comments about how clear, unlined and youthful my skin is. My mother is in her 70s and has worn make up every day since she was a teen, and also took great care of her skin and has the most beautiful, youthful, peachy complexion. She taught me to always be very gentle around the eye area, which I am and never pull at the skin there when applying or removing make up.

The only time make up is ageing is when it's badly applied, and particularly when young girls apply trowel it on. Subtle, well applied make up always makes women look younger (from what ive seen) and I've never see anyone look younger than when theyre wearing well balanced and carefully applied makeup.

Makeup is totally a personal choice and the bare face is absolutely nothing to be afraid of, but I can't think of anyone who looks older when wearing it unless they are about 15.

Full face every day, always have, I'm in my 50's and always will.

I enjoy it, trying new things and like how it enhances how I look. I do it for me, nobody else.

Rina66 · 17/11/2024 09:10

Totally agree with @Darkdiamond

But unless you are stood in front of a mirror all day you are doing it for other people you can't see yourself they can

I've just done a full face of makeup even though I'm not going anywhere. I just love the process and watching my features transform, trying new techniques, experimenting with colours etc. The tine dedicated to oneself is also very valuable, if you enjoy being part of make up as a creative process.

I think that poster meant that she doesn't feel under pressure to wear make up from others or is slavishly putting it on because she feels she will be judged if she doesn't. She probably means that she enjoys the process and does like how it presents to others, but it isnt the main objective.

MsKellie · 17/11/2024 09:58

@Edingril I don't need to be in front of a mirror all day to know what I look like. I won't have forgotten by the end of the day. I enjoy it, it has nothing to do with other people. I do it every day, even when I know I won't see anyone.

Imfreetofeelgood · 17/11/2024 10:08

The older I get, the less I wear. The less I wear, the better I look - except bare face.
Currently at 55 -
Everyday - bronzer, blush, cherry lip salve, eyebrow pencil to fill in due to auto immune alopecia. Most times eyeliner too.
Night out - add in mascara and tinted moisturiser. I prefer myself without mascara but feel obliged.
If not leaving house I may just wear lipsalve and eyebrow pencil. I'm self conscious re sparce eyebrows as I'm dark haired and had strong ones.
I'm happy to go to swimming bareface on a morning.
In the 80's my eye makeup was a work of art 🤣🤣 Wont be revisiting that trend.

littlebilliie · 17/11/2024 10:14

Daily but it's light makeup I'm very pale due to drug treatment

notacooldad · 17/11/2024 10:33

I actually think you can hit a point as you age where too much make up looks worse.
I disagree.
It would age you if you wore the same products and applied the same way you have always used. However make up can help you look fresher even as you get older. Make up should ( imo) be applied in a certain way for the occasion and life point of a person.

I've edited my post! I typed all this and then saw DarkDiamonds post. So yes I agree with her!

familysquare · 17/11/2024 10:36

Brows, mascara, tinted moisturiser, blush. Every day pretty much.

I agree. There will always be posters who argue that they look so much younger with totally white hair or with a bare face, or no eyebrows and while I'm sure it can be true in some cases, I've literally never seen it. Good make up always takes years off everyone and I'd say that's almost exclusively the case. If make-up makes you look older, I'd bet my house that you're doing it wrong.

MrsSkylerWhite · 17/11/2024 10:37

Very rarely.

I agreed with you before you edited your post 😀

Every day, at minimum foundation (has spf for my skin) and mascara. I would never go outside in pyjamas - very low rent

EmpressaurusDeiGatti · 17/11/2024 10:46

I go out on my balcony in pyjamas in full view of the neighbours 😱.

Is that low rent too?

JMSA · 17/11/2024 10:46

justflewinfromthewindycity · 01/09/2024 13:07

So what if your neighbour wears a full face every day ?
I wouldn't even notice
I wear it daily too

Exactly Confused There's always such judgement on here about those of us who regularly wear make-up, yet we never make comments about those who don't.
Disclaimer: I haven't read the thread, so am hoping my fellow maquillaged beauties won't have let me down Grin

Stretchedresources · 15/11/2024 07:14

Never, I'm 50. I don't even own any. Moisturiser, sunblock in the summer and brush my eyebrows.

Same here, I'm 54, except I don't even brush my eyebrows. I don't actually like the feel of make up on my face. I'm reasonably confident about my appearance, I'm slim, just the odd few strands of grey, my skin feels good and I wear clothes in natural fabrics that I like. I don't feel I need make up.

AllProperTeaIsTheft · 17/11/2024 11:06

Every day. I have since I was about 15. It's partly habit and mostly that I have a pale and pasty (and now aging) complexion! It's pretty subtle though - BB cream/tinted moisturiser, concealer a dab of blush and a light dusting of powder. I occasionally wear a subtle-ish lipstick. Eyebrow pen to fillin the sparse but of my brows. No eye make-up except when I'm properly dressing up for an evening out (very rare!).

zingally · 17/11/2024 11:37

Hmmm, I probably haven't worn make-up since my mid-20s. So getting on for 20 years ago now.

Just can't be bothered with it. Never really liked the feel of it on my skin anyway.
