How often do you wear make up?

My next door neighbour wears a full face of make up every single day without fail. I say this having just bumped into her in my pj's with no make up...

Only if I'm going somewhere a bit nicer than day to day life.

I don't wear any to school/most work days/casual weekend activities like walks, kids clubs etc.

I then have 3 'levels' of make up.

Level one
Minimal. Concealer, mascara, touch of blusher. A big work meeting with execs, pub lunch, a kids party at the weekend.

Level two
Medium. CC cream, concealer, blusher, eyebrow pencil, tinted lip balm, mascara, touch of highlighter, potentially a touch of eyeliner. An evening meal, an event like a concert, an interview.

Level three
Out out make up. Foundation, concealor, eyebrows a little heavier, blusher, highlighter, full eye make up, lip stain and balm. For events - weddings, parties, Xmas do, 'big' nights out.

I wear a light blusher every day, otherwise I look deathly pale.If I'm going out I'll also put on a bit of mascara and use bit of concealer under my eyes.I only wear lipstick if I'm going out otherwise it's a slick of Vaseline on my lips.I never wear foundation.

BashfulClam · 01/09/2024 13:29

Depends on the day. Office days I have bb cream to even out my skin, blusher for colour, lip balm and mascara. Wfh nothing as I let my skin have a break and have added a soft filter to my laptop camera so on teams calls I look ok. If I’m going out I add eyeshadow and lipstick. Yesterday I didn’t wear any and today I am at gone all day so bare face. Going on holiday tomorrow so will wear some whilst flying.

I get your point but I wouldn’t say it’s under grooming, just what feels right for them. Just like a full face isn’t over grooming either.

Of course, each to their own.

I just find it amusing that these threads always draw out people 'bragging' they've never worn makeup or bought new clothes since 1987 and people that do are silly and vain.

BeachHutsAndDeckchairs · 01/09/2024 13:30

Never. I don't like how it feels on my skin; it makes it feel oily and that it needs a wash.

Wavescrashingonthebeach · 01/09/2024 13:30

I went a good few months without wearing any when DS2 was newborn
Now he's nearly a year I probably do a light full face once a week.
And some days just do a tiny bit of foundation, blush, eyebrows a tiny bit.
Some days none at all.

TheYoungestSibling · 01/09/2024 13:31

Daily unless I'm unwell. I would only go out side in my pyjamas if I had to pick up a parcel or put a bin out at the last moment.

I like playing with make up and clothes and consider it part of my self care.

BeaLola · 01/09/2024 13:32

I wear either tinted moisturiser or in the summer sone thing like Mecca 50 SpF every day + I always wear lipstick , gloss or a lip balm depending on mood

If I'm going out in the evening in spring autumn or winter I may add a touch of eye make up inc mascara (never in summer)

I am 56

Yet nobody who doesn't wear makeup has tried to insult those who do in the way you have with your barbed "competitive under groomers" comment.

Almost as though you take offence at people answering the question posted honestly if the answer is so different from your own.

Whatever makes a person feel good. Personally it takes me about 5 minutes to do my makeup - bit of powder, blusher/highlighter in one, lipstick, mascara, bit of eyebrow pencil - done ✨ Many days I don’t wear any if I’m just mooching around the house.

5 minutes !? I only put on mascara to fool people I'm awake and that takes me 5 minutes. Your routine would take me an hour atleast (with time to rub off and correct my mistakes, no da Vinci genes here)

BeaLola · 01/09/2024 13:33

I should have added that

ILovecamdenMarket · 01/09/2024 13:34

I had microblading, semi permanent eyeliner and lipblush done I'm all sorted permanently lol

After reading this thread I decided to do my make up and timed myself.

Tinted moisturizer, concealer, blush, eyebrow gel, mascara and lipstick.

One minute, forty seconds!

BeaLola · 01/09/2024 13:34

Trying to add that since my 50s I wear less - when I was in my 20s and 30s and worked in London I wore far more

MooseAndSquirrelLoveFlannel · 01/09/2024 13:34

If I'm in the office I will wear a full face, so foundation, powder, bronzer, eyebrows, eyeshadow, liner, blush and highlighter.

Rarely if I'm just at home. Sometimes I might do my eyebrows and a bit of blush but depends what Teams meetings I have.

There is also no connection between wearing makeup and being "groomed" in terms of wearing good quality clothing in excellent condition and being generally clean and tidy. Do you assume men who don't wear makeup also wear clothes from 1987?

Worldofflowers · 01/09/2024 13:36

Well OP I will admit I also go outside in pyjamas and dressing gown - every morning actually because I go out to top the bird feeders up as soon as I'm out of bed. So the birds can get their breakfast. I don't usually meet any neighbours at that point though.
I also wear make up every day - applied after breakfast. It's only a minimal amount and I've made a conscious effort these past few years to look as natural as I can. It only takes 5 minutes to apply. I'm so used to doing it, it's so part of my routine, I feel it's sort of " me" now.

Poachedeggavocado · 01/09/2024 13:36

Every day without fail. It takes me 5 minutes and I feel undressed without it. I'm over 50 so covering up sun spots, dark shadows, colouring in eyebrows and putting on lipstick/blusher just brightens up my face. I do not care what anyone else thinks, I do it so I don't catch sight of myself in a mirror and think 'gosh you look terrible'.

Also, I really enjoy it. I have drawers of make up and I like experimenting.

FinallyYouSaid · 01/09/2024 13:36

I used to wear my 'level one' minimal make up every single day though. To work, to do the school run, to nip to the shop for milk. I'd never be out anywhere without concealer, mascara and blusher.

It was Covid that totally broke that habit as we had nowhere to go, nothing to do and my face was half covered with a mask anyway. I never went back to it and just stay bare faced most days now.

We're all different. Self care for me involves a good book and some good chocolate whereas I consider anything related to appearance as a chore like vacuuming. Love dresses, no need to coordinate anything:)

discoballdave · 01/09/2024 13:38

Mostly every day. I do a full face but it doesn't look like a full face, if you see what I mean. Like one of those 'no make up' looks that men think mean we're not wearing make up. A good foundation, blush, eyebrow pencil, eyebrow wax, mascara and a tinted lip balm. Takes me 8 minutes including two coats of mascara and curling my lashes.

OldTinHat · 01/09/2024 13:39

Every single day when I'm seeing another person.

And self care for me is an hour’s early morning workout at the gym, batch cooking healthy & tasty food or lying on the sofa in the evening with a good book & one or more cats.

TodayThisName · 01/09/2024 13:45

Never.

I remember being asked once by a (male) family member if I needed more time to "get my face on" when on the way to attend a 'do' (I was wearing a very small amount of make-up on this occasion). I told him my face was already attached. Wish I'd thought to return the question...

Getonwitit · 01/09/2024 13:49

Never, don't own any unless lip balm counts.
