Help me settle an an argument. DH served kids a breakfast of chicken Dippers!!!. It has caused an argument. He thinks dippers are a good breakfast food full of protein. He thinks it's a better breakfast than cornflakes which are ultra processed.
Please arm me the facts on why birds eye chicken dippers are a terrible breakfast. I need to present him with facts. I'm not a nutrition expert but know enough to know this is not a good breakfast. Mumsnet pls hit me up with some facts.

I mean, they're not traditional but not sure they're worse than cornflakes and he's right, lots of protein!

YOYOK · 27/07/2024 11:06

It’s a weird breakfast 🤣 but if they’re ok for lunch or dinner, why not for breakfast?

PointsSouth · 27/07/2024 11:06

How do you know that they’re terrible then?

Whatever they are, they’re no better or worse at breakfast than any other time.

MidnightPatrol · 27/07/2024 11:06

Surely chicken dippers are ultra processed too?

Marmite27 · 27/07/2024 11:06

Why not? Probably better than sausage/bacon!

AngelicInnocent · 27/07/2024 11:06

It's a bad breakfast because it's upf but DH is correct it's full of protein and better for them than cornflakes. These kinds of cereals are an awful breakfast.

AgnesX · 27/07/2024 11:07

Why not, so long as it's not every day a one off is a treat.

whichfan · 27/07/2024 11:07

He’s a sahd?

Surely chicken dippers are ultra processed too?

Yes, exactly.

whichfan · 27/07/2024 11:08

my children have pain au chocolates for weekend breakfast

i’m guessing less nutritional value than chicken dippers

Globules · 27/07/2024 11:08

It's school holidays. Chicken dippers are a worthy breakfast.

I've just had fish and rice for breakfast. Is that wrong too?

MossGrowsFat · 27/07/2024 11:09

Why not, so long as it's not every day a one off is a treat.

Better than sugar processed cereal everyday

InTheRainOnATrain · 27/07/2024 11:09

🤣 Unusual yes and sure they’re processed but I don’t see how it’s any worse than your typical breakfast meats like sausage or bacon, or other processed breakfast foods like cereal. And they’re high protein and no sugar. So team DH and the chicken dippers, sorry OP!

SocksAndTheCity · 27/07/2024 11:09

I could just eat a few chicken dippers. Definitely better than cornflakes.

Sirzy · 27/07/2024 11:09

It’s not a traditional breakfast but that doesn’t make it a bad breakfast.

SquigglePigs · 27/07/2024 11:10

I don't think it's the end of the world. It's not very balanced though - I'd want some veggies on there too.

Cornflakes are a pretty rubbish breakfast really. Not very filling or sustaining.

I'm not particularly keen on conventional breakfast foods apart from eggs and sausages so I often have a pasta based meal or rice for breakfast. My 5 year old will sometimes join me, although she does enjoy porridge and Weetabix sometimes too.

Basically if it's acceptable in your house for lunch or dinner then I see no reason why it wouldn't be acceptable for breakfast.

WouldUSayImWorthy · 27/07/2024 11:10

I mean, if you'd serve them to your kids for lunch or tea, what's the difference?

None of us are into breakfast, and none of us are into traditional breakfast foods like cereal etc, so I wouldn't get excited over this.

Namenamchange · 27/07/2024 11:10

he either fully believes it ok. and if its his turn don't interfere, or he's trying to look shit on purpose so you take over.

Just walk away and do something else

BaronessBomburst · 27/07/2024 11:11

Look on the bright side, you can do cornflakes for dinner now - no cooking!

ToRecordOnlyWater · 27/07/2024 11:11

I couldn’t get mad at this personally- sure it’s a weird breakfast choice, chicken dippers are massively processed too same as cereal but they could be eating a lot worse for breakfast! Sorry OP!

Createausername1970 · 27/07/2024 11:12

It's a bit odd, but I agree it's not necessarily any less "healthy" than cereals. Might be more filling, so less clamouring for snacks later on.

SagaNorensPorche · 27/07/2024 11:12

It's fine. Mine never liked traditional 'breakfast' food like cereal or toast so it was an effort to get anything into them. Go with it, they'll get bored with them soon enough anyway.

MumChp · 27/07/2024 11:12

Thevpoor children will survive.

Frowningprovidence · 27/07/2024 11:13

I think they are as processed as cornflakes but more filling. If they were not upf, I'd quite like them as a breakfast option.

It is worth remembering that children are growing so the whole low carb high protien thing adults do isn't a goal for children diets.

GoingMadder · 27/07/2024 11:15

Used to be my hangover cure with lots od ketchup!!
