Help me settle an an argument. DH served kids a breakfast of chicken Dippers!!!. It has caused an argument. He thinks dippers are a good breakfast food full of protein. He thinks it's a better breakfast than cornflakes which are ultra processed.
Please arm me the facts on why birds eye chicken dippers are a terrible breakfast. I need to present him with facts. I'm not a nutrition expert but know enough to know this is not a good breakfast. Mumsnet pls hit me up with some facts.

Given that the op hadn’t been back I’m saying this was written by Birds Eye’s PR team because I really really want some chicken dippers now!

Leaving aside nutrition completely, some of my happiest childhood memories are times my dad let us do things that were a bit out of the ordinary. Like made us an extremely rich and indulgent chocolate sauce for pudding or let us have a water fight after dinner.

So honestly, let children have chicken dippers for breakfast once in a while (just infrequently enough that it remains an extra special treat). They'll love it and it's no worse than having them any other time of day.

whichfan · 27/07/2024 15:44

i suspect OP on a big weight loss mission and the smell of chicken dippers pissed her off!

JMSA · 27/07/2024 17:51

I am 50 years old and still remember the exciting time when I was little, and my 'papa' (grandad) let me have orange juice in my Rice Krispies instead of milk, and custard creams straight after breakfast.
My grandma was horrified when she came downstairs and saw us Grin
Your kids will be talking about this for some time to come! 💕

But if you MAKE chicken dippers then they don't have all that stuff. Just chicken breast and breadcrumbs.

But he didn't. He got them out of the freezer! 😂

Starlightstarbright3 · 27/07/2024 18:41

It’s not the hill to die on .

My Ds eats all sorts of random crap for breakfast ( teenager) I am happy he has eaten

CurlewKate · 27/07/2024 20:47

My dd used to like pasta for breakfast. I had had leftover rocket and Parmesan salad with balsamic dressing for breakfast today. As my mother used to say "Who makes these rules?"

CaptainMyCaptain · 27/07/2024 21:18

I've been known to eat leftover trifle for breakfast. Well, it has fruit in it. Delicious 😋.

Crunchymum · 27/07/2024 21:31

If you are giving them chicken dippers for breakfast, what options are left to give them for dinner? 😂

TortillasAndSalsa · 27/07/2024 21:34

In his defence people have a fey up for breakfast so why not chicken dippers? Not helpful at all though I know 😂

Ethylred · 27/07/2024 21:39

Read the list of ingredients. That will tell you all you need to know. 50% chicken, 50% flour, water and oil. IOW sludge.

BurbageBrook · 27/07/2024 21:49

Not a great breakfast but better than sugary cereal for sure.

Daughter ate chicken nuggets for breakfast on nursery days for about a year aged 5 or so. She had to eat in the car as we left at 7.30 am. Nuggets were protein and unspillable. No one mentioned UPF in 1999. I knew it wasn’t great but she had breakfast and honestly I think cornflakes are worse.

icclemunchy · 28/07/2024 18:35

Birthday party leftovers for breakfast is one of my fave childhood memories. Might have cold mini sausages and nuggets tomorrow

BambinaCucina · 28/07/2024 18:40

Why do we have to eat certain foods at certain times? I quite like a full English for dinner.

Plus, they're not exactly health food, but they're probably healthier than lots of sugary cereals.

CockSpadget · 28/07/2024 19:52

You are both BU. it would have been better for them to have the dippers AND a bowl of cornflakes. Neither of them on their own are great, but together they give a decent amount of carbs, proteins and fats. Yeah, they are UP, but that’s a moot point as im assuming they are part of their normal diet anyway, due them being in the house in the first place.

Mumoftwochildrenand6furkids · 28/07/2024 21:35

Dont sound the best but im not an great judge as myself i hardle bother with breakfast or lunch and norm just grab an apple or grapefruit during the day, hubby sorts himself out and eldest at 7 normally has toast and Granola, Youngest on baby food.
I dont think chicket nuggets every now and then will harm them.

Ilovecleaning · 28/07/2024 21:47

As a one off I’d let it go.

Avoidingsleep · 28/07/2024 21:50

Unconventional sure, but as long as it’s not every day I don’t see a problem. You wouldn’t (or I wouldn’t) have a fry up every day, but they are nice once in a blue moon.

I don’t think his argument about cereal being processed is a good one as nuggets are too.

At the end of the day, does it really matter in the grand scheme of things as long as the kids have eaten? (I realise this opinion is very skewed as I have a toddler that has struggled with textures and can be very fussy, I have to pick my battles).

You have gone for the Paula Vennells argument logic of "I want to say X, tell me why X is correct "

capermum · 28/07/2024 22:26

Have you tried scanning the barcodes on the Yuka app? This was a good way to get to the bottom of what’s in the food so you can compare the kids normal breakfast cereal and the dippers
